Cell Phones Should Not be Banned From School Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Cell phones do not only allow students to stay united with friends and family, but cell phones are also a magnificent learning system, and they boost the liable use of technology. One reason to consider the introduction of cell phones in learning is to promote digital etiquette, a concept that is foreign to most people. According to Liz Kolb (the author of “Toys to Tools”) Digital etiquette is “a basic set of rules you should follow in order to make the internet better for others, and better for you.” Kolb says in her book that “an educator’s job is to help students navigate and stay safe in their media world”. Students often are unaware to the consequences of their use and misuse of technology. Currently, many students do not overthink about protecting their own privacy. For example 55% of students do not care whether the digital material they use is copyrighted. Students ages 10 to 17 often do not take in appropriate cell phone use. According to Kolb “While nine out of ten 10- to 17- year olds believe that they are courteous on their cell phones, 52% admit to sending text messages at the movie theater, while 28% admit to sending texts at the dinner table.” These statistics show that teens are unaware with cell pho... ... middle of paper ... ...her. Given the unquestionable results regarding the use of cell phones by students in school there should not be a ban on the cell phones in schools. This is because students can learn to enhance their learning from the technology such as the cell phone. Students will also become more independent in their work and more motivated to learn. Students like being permitted to making their own choices. The part of society that is against the use of cell phones in school do it because of the interference that a cell phone can cause. Nevertheless we must accept that we live in a world full of technology. We miss out if we do not take the upper hand of the educational power of the cell phone. Overall, cell phones supply us with learning resources and encourage suitable use of technology. Therefore the schools should not ban cell the use of cell phones on school grounds.
Lewis Filler, in an article, “Point-Counterpoint: Cell Phones in Schools” argues that cell phones in schools are important for the safety of children. He believes children should have a cell phone to contact parents in case of an emergency. Because of the child’s trip to and from school, Lewis proposes that a policy of allowing phones while turned off in school.

There are many rules set in place by school districts and administrators against use of cell phones in the class room. These rules span from kindergarten through twelfth grade and into college. In the article “The only thing to fear is one hundred and twenty characters” Kevin M. Thomas and Christy D. Mcgee inform their readers about the positive results cell phones can have in the class room. They state that cell phones have already helped bring literacy rates up in elementary schools across the nation. The article also shows the readers some applications that they can put on their child’s smart phone that will help them with their school work. These applications help with math, english, science and reading, just to name a few. Thomas and McGee also show negative points such as cheating, cyber bullying, and sexting. Although cheating and bullying have been around for a very long time and cell phones are just another avenue that they can use. They say that sexting is a new phenomenon but is more about bad morals than school productivity. Although there are negatives for allowing cell phones in schools, the benefits outweigh the negative aspects of cell phones. Having cell phones allowed in the classroom can have many beneficial outcomes. Cell phones can be very helpful for students in academics, safety, and communication.
Not only are the good to stay in touch with everyday life they’re also good to have if you’re in trouble. The impact of mobile phones on today 's youth is astronomical. All teenagers own a mobile phone and they know how to use them and they know how it works. However, mobile phones have become a problem to teenagers as mobile phones develop and as teenagers love to use them. In education, students can use phones to take pictures of notes for a chance to look back when they’re needed. So banning phones in school is a very idiotic idea. Students spend most of their day using technology anyway why not flip it to your advantage. Texting Teenagers today can carry on a conversation that some adults cannot understand. A conversation now a day is funny because everything is shortened. For example, "U R lol @ me, IDKW" this is written in texting slang and this means "You are laughing out loud at me and I don 't know why”. Have you ever heard of the gruesome Columbine High School massacre? This incident occurred on April 20th 1999 and involved two students embarking on a shooting rampage, killing twelve students, a teacher and wounding twenty three others. Unfortunately during this incident, the school's most easily accessible phone was on the other side of the school in the library. Perhaps some of these lives could have been saved if the students in this class had cell phones that they could've used to contact the authorities more quickly. The issue we are addressing today is the use of cellular devices in educational facilities. I believe that cell phone use is of extreme convenience, and has academically beneficial aspects, among it's so called "faults".

Now most people when they first here this statement, they would think that I’m talking crazy and don’t know what I am talking about, but I’m not. There is always two sides to any situation or opinionated question. One side of this opinionated question would be that cellphones are too distracting and would never be useful for teens during school. Teens waste to much time one their phones. Cell phones are small and portable yet provide so much to its user with being able to look up anything to calling your parents in case of an emergency or if you need to give them a heads up on something. With the way things are today people need to focus on incorporating cell phones into daily life and finding ways to make them more suitable in a classroom environment. Teachers are already doing this though with using apps that work with the whole class and can track data and usage of a student. In conclusion, this essay has tried to argue that cell phones are valuable tools in schools. Many of us see cell phone pessimistically but really haven’t looked at them optimistically. We all know that "with every good, comes a bad, and with responsibilities, come consequences". By all means allowing cell phones in schools is a great idea, and students should start to learn the positive features of that new device. Overall, this essay has attempted to show that allowing cell phones in schools is not a bad idea.

One reason that cell phones should be banned from classrooms is because students who use them fall into a daze of distracted learning. The principal of my high school has banned the use of cell phone during school hours. I believe he has good reason to do so. Using cell phones during school could be the cause of enormous distractions. In addition, it would make it easier for students to cheat, and it is possible that there would be more bullying within the school. Therefore, I firmly agree with my principal’s decision to prohibit the use of cell phones during school.
