Clarisa Arrambide Carissa Hayden Engl. 1302 20 October 2014 Students vs. Smart phones Should students be allowed to have smart phones in school? We all know that mobile technology has come a long way, compared to years ago, where the only thing phones could do was make a simple phone call and back then, which was the most amazing experience for people to be able to speak to someone through a mobile device. With technology now in the 21st century, cell phones have turned into smart phones, which are basically miniature, portable computers in the grasp of your palm. Increase of technology is never a negative thing in today’s world; it has created many opportunities and is continuing to grow more and more each day. Technology has created the ability to master the creation of smart phones. But should students be allowed to have smart phones in schools? This issue has been the center of debates across many school districts all over the country. The smart phones in today’s world can be used in adversely any way imaginable and it is continuing to get bigger and better. The features that smart phones bring …show more content…
Some schools have allowed students to bring smart phones to school with limitations on the use of them during certain times of the day. The argument students bring upon this debate is mainly in regards to an emergency at the school campus and the need to phone their parents. Students will usually claim that they will not be using their smart phones during class just to be allowed to get permission to posses the phone on school grounds; however, surveys have shown that this statement is a lie. Students tend to not follow instructions such as, to keep phones turned off or if the phone needs to be on for an emergency only, it is required that the smart phones need to be switched to silent
According to “Cell Phones in American High Schools: A National Survey,” by John Obringer and Kent Coffey, eighty-four percent of high schools have written policies regarding cell phones and forty-seven percent allow students to carry their p...
With various technological advances made every single day, today’s citizens have become accustomed to having and using smart phones.
Cell phones, they are used everywhere. But should they be used in schools? There are many opinions on the topic should cell phones be used in schools. My opinion is Yes cell phones should be used in school. Why? well they are used in so many good ways such as doing work on the phones. Meanwhile there are many ways they can used in a bad way such as using them to go on social media during class. And this is why I think cell phones should be used in school.
Teachers are finding it harder and harder to separate a student from their cell phones for eight hours. Cellular devices and social media have become a number one priority for many people across the world. Due to the fact that the student will not put down their phones during school hours, their grades tend to be lower, which could, in the long run, affect their chances of getting into college. The use of cell phones does not strictly affect younger generations, it also had major influence on adults at the
Picture this, there has been a school lockdown, the suspect cut the landlines so no one could call the police for a rescue. However, the suspect was captured by the police much faster than he imagined. The last scene wouldn’t have happened if it was one decade ago, because cell phones were not popular in schools then. When it comes to cell phones, some people think they should not be permitted in schools, and other people think they should be permitted in schools. I agree with the latter opinion for the following reasons: Cell phones are an efficient way to communicate when emergencies occur in school; cell phones can be a great tool for learning during school hours; and the current prohibitive rules on cell phones are merely fruitless efforts. Cell phones should be permitted in schools, because they could be very beneficial and practical in schools.
Schools should allow cell phones in schools for children's protection and safety. Secondly, cell phones can keep you connected with your buddies. Instead of screaming, and yelling in the halls to ask your buddy for books, you can simply call them on your cell phone. Some students ask themselves, "If teachers are allowed to use cell phones in class?"... ...
Ever since incidents such as 9/11 and Columbine, high schools have started implementing new rules regarding cellphones. Cellphones regard the attention of building managers, teachers, parents, and students. Although teachers see them as a distraction and a way to cheat, they can be quite helpful to students. School districts should permit students to use cellular devices in school for purposes of improving their education and providing themselves a sense of security.
Can you see yourself without a cell phone today? This world has become so technologically dependent that it is hard for anyone to not use a cell phone, a computer, or some sort of device at least once during the day. Since technology has come so far, better education should be possible. Cell phones are a way of communication and can make people feel safe, so it is hard to believe that most schools ban them. It is time for schools to see that technology is the future and it is growing rapidly, along with educational and safety features.
A mobile phone is a telephone that can make and receive calls over a radio
Cell phones should not be allowed in school because children focus more on the phone than schoolwork, it creates more drama, and it promotes cheating. Cell phones should not be allowed in schools because kids are always wondering what their friends are doing and what is happening outside of school. If they have access to their phones all day, then they will be glued to them. Phones are more entertaining than a teacher lecturing at the front of the class. Most students will start to zone out, or fall asleep, when a teacher starts a lesson.
First, there was the standard land line phone system; then came the cell phone - a convenient little portable item that everyone adopted a "must have" attitude toward. Progress didn't stop there, however. Now, we have the Smart Phone - the answer to the on-the-go lifestyle that demands immediate access to whatever electronic needs that we happen to have, in addition to the ability to phone our family and friends for a chat whenever the whim presents itself.
Cell phones have only been in the picture for a short amount of time compared to how long people have been going to school but cell phones are everywhere now and make it difficult for schools to come up with what to do. As many believe they are a distraction and can be used for cheating and other negative stuff. There are also people that are highly in favor of having cellphones as they can be helpful with all the tools they provide and people who are not and it 's all about who makes a better argument. Cell phones used to just have communication abilities but that is far gone now you have the abilities to use apps and different functions that fit nicely into a school environment. Cell phones should be allowed in the classroom as cell phones provide positive benefits and are a helpful tool in learning.
Given the unquestionable results regarding the use of cell phones by students in school there should not be a ban on the cell phones in schools. This is because students can learn to enhance their learning from the technology such as the cell phone. Students will also become more independent in their work and more motivated to learn. Students like being permitted to making their own choices.
I remember a classmate when I was in high school because he never talked to anybody. He spent most of his time on his cell phone or using his tablet, and he did not do well in school. He was different than my other classmates and I believe that he never felt comfortable in the classroom. Everybody knows that cell phones have changed peoples’ life dramatically. Cell phones are one of the most revolutionary advances in the last decades because they make things simpler and easier but cell phones have a strong impact on teenagers. Teenagers are in one of the most important phase in their lives because they are exploring the world and developing their capacities. I believe that cell phones have more negative than positives effects on teenagers for many reasons.
Every day of our lives, we watch as technology advances in leaps and bounds, so it was only logical when the cell phone came into existence, it would also be necessary to develop ways for a phone to be more than just a phone. With the explosion of the internet age people needed a way to bring their computers on the go, one that could fit in the palm of their hand. Whether it be checking emails, updating social networks or even playing games, smartphones seem to do it all. There is, however, a dark side to every technological advance that is made, to everything that makes our lives more convenient. Smartphones are not only an enormous distraction in our lives but are also known to cause health problems in those
