Just the thought of a a message or text on your phone screen can make you have the urge to look at it or take your time and reply back even if you were still in class causing damage and harm to the teaching environment. This issue of letting students have cellphones in class is a very big argument on both sides leading to many schools starting to give up and trying out new methods with cell phones. One after another schools are falling to the hands of cellphones. Although cell phones may give parents access to contact their child, schools should still ban cell phones in school because they cause major distractions to students that are using them, ruin the teaching environments the teachers has set up, and it may even distract other students.

If a cell phone is allowed to be used in the classroom, this creates an atmosphere of distraction as well as an inability to understand how to fully concentrate on assignments. This also can lead to lack of preparedness for testing in all capacities. The long term effects could be numerous, ranging from the students failure to succeed in school, to the lack of federal funding needed for the school system, all based on low test scores. The immediate impacts are easy to identify, and add up over time. Since they are busy tending to their latest playlists and social media, students do not seem to have an understanding of the material, or clear expectations of homework assignments.
