There are an abundance of reasons why cell phones should be banned from schools; there are also a great amount of reasons why cell phones should not be banned from schools. One claim is that cell phones should not be allowed in schools. First of all, phones are a distraction to students (Lee). One example of cell phones being a distraction would be, “calling a friend to chat, checking emails or viewing pictures or videos” (Lee). That quote displays that cell phones are used more for fun than for school purposes. Secondly, cell phones should not be allowed at school because it gives the students another way to cheat on exams. An example of cheating could be, “take a photo of the exam, and send the picture to someone for the purposes of cheating”
(Lee). That example illustrates that cheating is accessible to most students because of cell phones. Finally, cell phones should be banned because when they are needed, they will not work. What is the point of having a cell phone when it is needed if it will not work? One example is: “students rushing to use their cell phones in a crisis would also overload the cell phone system and render it useless” (Lee). That example displays that when students would need their phones, they would not even work. Why would students need their cell phones at school in the first place if they would not work when needed? The counterclaim is to not ban cell phones from schools. First, teens are adapted to having cell phones (George). To illustrate my point, “Prensky describes today’s youth as digital natives” (George). Teens being used to cell phones is important because if students are around cell phones most of the time, they would know how to use them responsibly when necessary. Next, schools banning cell phones until the end of the day could cause communication problems with students and families. An example of a cell phone causing problems with students and family could be, “That students at Adlai E. Stephenson High School were not allowed to use phones (or pagers) until school ended for the day. That included students who were calling for a ride home after they finished a test before the usual time ended” (George). Banning cell phones does not allow the student to communicate with the parent when necessary, which is important for the students. Finally, banning cellphones in classrooms could improve learning, but not allowing them all day could lead to disrespect (George). Banning cell phones in classrooms is acceptable because students learn in the classroom. That is why students go to school in the first place. Not allowing cellular devices at all is the problem. Students don't learn in the hallway, so why would cellphones be banned in the hallway? All in all, there are numerous reasons to ban phones in school, but there are also an abundance of reasons to allow cell phones at school.
In the article, Point-Counterpoint: Cell phones in Schools” Rose-Marie Mills and Grace Zwillenberg claim cell phones should be banned from schools. Teachers take time from teaching to punish students for using their phone which, disrupts everyone. They suggest that students having phones is a “false sense of security” and, if there was an emergency the
Students still use phones during class even though they are not supposed to, but they have reasons why they do it. Students would usually go on if they are done with their assignments. And everyday, students still bring their phones to school, so why can't teachers just let them use it. Students still bring them to talk to people, do research, message people, or to play games. Teachers would tell a student to go read a book or to sit quietly, but the ...
Have you ever heard of the gruesome Columbine High School massacre? This incident occurred on April 20th 1999 and involved two students embarking on a shooting rampage, killing twelve students, a teacher and wounding twenty three others. Unfortunately during this incident, the school's most easily accessible phone was on the other side of the school in the library. Perhaps some of these lives could have been saved if the students in this class had cell phones that they could've used to contact the authorities more quickly. The issue we are addressing today is the use of cellular devices in educational facilities. I believe that cell phone use is of extreme convenience, and has academically beneficial aspects, among it's so called "faults".
Chairperson, adjudicators, members of the opposition, fellow team mates, ladies and gentlemen, I have great pleasure in proposing the motion today that mobile phones should be banned in schools.
Buzzzzzzzzzz! Another cellphone is going off in the middle of class, causing her to blush and discreetly check her new text message. A virtual conversation is buzzing back and forth inside one classroom and into the classroom across the hall, having a discussion about the party that night or the lipstick color chosen at the mall. In another classroom, a student posts the answers to the English exams on her profile page, allowing all of her buddies to read and use for their time of the exam. There are multiple examples of students using their cell phones during class time to communicate their thoughts, images of their environment or dangerous crimes. In addition, the percentage of students with cellphones now soars to about 80% (Ban). This highly increases the chance for students to have a cell phones on them during school. Cell phones can also be harmful to students during class, taking them into another world of technology, separated from the classroom, and turning them down a road of decisions they never intended on doing. Overall, cell phones alter classroom learning in a negative way, and should be banned from use in the classroom at all schools.
Why should phones be allowed in classroom? Phones should be allowed in classroom because they help in a lot of ways. Also our phones are with us 24/7. We don’t just use it for texting people or calling or on social media. They should be allowed in class because they keep us quiet at times. We get to listen to music while doing our work. Phones are in our everyday life.
Picture this, there has been a school lockdown, the suspect cut the landlines so no one could call the police for a rescue. However, the suspect was captured by the police much faster than he imagined. The last scene wouldn’t have happened if it was one decade ago, because cell phones were not popular in schools then. When it comes to cell phones, some people think they should not be permitted in schools, and other people think they should be permitted in schools. I agree with the latter opinion for the following reasons: Cell phones are an efficient way to communicate when emergencies occur in school; cell phones can be a great tool for learning during school hours; and the current prohibitive rules on cell phones are merely fruitless efforts. Cell phones should be permitted in schools, because they could be very beneficial and practical in schools.
Schools should allow cell phones in schools for children's protection and safety. Secondly, cell phones can keep you connected with your buddies. Instead of screaming, and yelling in the halls to ask your buddy for books, you can simply call them on your cell phone. Some students ask themselves, "If teachers are allowed to use cell phones in class?"... ...
There are a lot of students in the school that be on their phones and if no one does anything about it they are going to fail. So yeah students definitely should not have cell phones a school. One reason why students should not be allowed on their phone is they do like texting. If a student is supposed to be doing work 9 times out of 10 they are checking to see if a notification is on their phone.
Cell phones should not be allowed in school because children focus more on the phone than schoolwork, it creates more drama, and it promotes cheating. Cell phones should not be allowed in schools because kids are always wondering what their friends are doing and what is happening outside of school. If they have access to their phones all day, then they will be glued to them. Phones are more entertaining than a teacher lecturing at the front of the class. Most students will start to zone out, or fall asleep, when a teacher starts a lesson.
My first reason that cell phones should be banned from schools is that cell phones are not always safe. One example of this is in an emergency, the parents could all be trying to call their kids, but that will slow the phone network down. If the phone network is slowed down it will take longer to call the firemen, and the police. Another example of this is from inner experience when I look at so much different articles the safety experts say cell phones should be banned from schools.
Cell phones have only been in the picture for a short amount of time compared to how long people have been going to school but cell phones are everywhere now and make it difficult for schools to come up with what to do. As many believe they are a distraction and can be used for cheating and other negative stuff. There are also people that are highly in favor of having cellphones as they can be helpful with all the tools they provide and people who are not and it 's all about who makes a better argument. Cell phones used to just have communication abilities but that is far gone now you have the abilities to use apps and different functions that fit nicely into a school environment. Cell phones should be allowed in the classroom as cell phones provide positive benefits and are a helpful tool in learning.
The part of society that is against the use of cell phones in school do it because of the interference that a cell phone can cause. Nevertheless we must accept that we live in a world full of technology. We miss out if we do not take the upper hand of the educational power of the cell phone. Overall, cell phones supply us with learning resources and encourage suitable use of technology. Therefore the schools should not ban cell the use of cell phones on school grounds.
There is no doubt that almost all people in developed country using mobile phones, from teen until old peoples. They are using mobile phones for business communication, keeping contact with family and friends, and even just followed the trends. There are many disadvantages of using mobile phones in school such as, students use mobile phones for cheating, as well as that can destroy concentration while study in classroom. It also be shown that other electronic devices to facilitate student while study at schools. However, this essay will argue that mobile phones should be banned in schools.
Many schools are now making new rules or guidelines to improve the educational impact that school has on students. One of these new rules or guidelines is a ban on cell phones during school hours. This new guideline upsets many students that use cell phones because they feel that it takes away their freedom. It is a privilege, not a right, that those students even have cell phones, and they are abusing their privilege tremendously. This new guideline is a superior guideline to follow, and in the long run, students will realize how this ban affected their learning experience. Cell phones should be ultimately banned for a number of reasons. Cell phones are a distraction to other students, it is a major distraction to the student with the cell phone, and there are phones in the school that students can use whenever they need.
