It’s not acceptable to use cell phones in class. Actually, using cell phones has more negative effects than positive. So, why do we need to change the policy that prohibits students from using cell phones in classrooms? In my opinion, I will say no, we shouldn’t change the policy that exists now - no cell phone use, under any circumstances. As what Paul Thomas says: “Teaching is a human experience. Technology is a distraction when we need literacy, normalcy, and critical thinking." http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2012/05/do-cell-phones-belong-in-the-classroom/257 325/ Cell phones may be the top of devices those distract students in class. The ubiquitous problem originates from the cell phones. I’m also a high school student, I can see some of my classmates use it for texting every day in class instead of listening to the teacher. Students also use it for playing video games, listening to music, watching videos. And definitely, while you are playing with your phones, you will not be able to absorb the lesson that the teacher is trying to teach. It’s not easy to do two things at the same time, except you are super. Have you ever tried to draw a circle by your left hand and draw a rectangle by the other hand simultaneously? When you do two things or more at the same time, your brain will just focus on one thing and naturally ignore the other. As Peter Bregman wrote in the Harvard Business Review Blog Network that multitasking can reduce productivity by as much as 40%, increase stress and cause a 10-point fall in IQ. http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2012/05/do-cell-phones-belong-in-the-classroom/257 325/ Currently, cheating is seemed to be the serious issue in school. And one of its supporters is cell phones... ... middle of paper ... ...rchive/2012/05/do-cell-phones-belong-in-the-classroom/257325/ It’s not a reasonable defense for using cell phones. You can spend time for your cell phones at home. I can say that students must always be busy in the classroom, they all have their works to do instead of connecting with peers in other countries. Why don’t they use their own time to do that? That skill doesn’t need teachers to teach you how, but teachers are really necessary for explaining other lessons. As I know, today’s children probably don’t need teachers for their digital devices, most of them learn by themselves. There are many problems are originated from using cell phones so why do we need to change our school policy. If cell phones are available to use in our school, we will have the same issues that other schools have gotten as what I bring up. Again, let’s say “no” to changing the policy.
In the article, Point-Counterpoint: Cell phones in Schools” Rose-Marie Mills and Grace Zwillenberg claim cell phones should be banned from schools. Teachers take time from teaching to punish students for using their phone which, disrupts everyone. They suggest that students having phones is a “false sense of security” and, if there was an emergency the
George, Patricia and Cook, Kathryn. “Cell Phone Regulations are not Necessary.” Points of View: Cell Phones in School (2013): 1. Points of View Reference Center. Web. 29 Mar. 2014
The first reason why cell phones should be prohibited from use in high school classrooms is because they cause significant disruptions in the learning process. Phones that are ringing with loud
Technology advances how humans do things. Technological advancement gave people cell phones, computers, and the internet. It took people from the candle to the lightbulb and in the American classroom from chalkboards to Smart boards. Technology is constantly changing how teachers educate. In the modern age, with computers for research, and spell-checker and word processing systems for editing writing has become easier for most students. However, cell phones and other devices can cause distractions in the classroom. Although sometimes difficult, teachers are encouraged to use new technology to engage students in instructional time.
What is the first thing that comes into your mind when you think of cellphones in schools? Is it a slacker in the back of the room texting their friend? Well, it seems like the future for this idea of phones in school involves kids using their phones as clickers, interacting with SMARTboards, etc. Cell phones can be used as a learning tool, as a safety tool to contact parents/officials, and teaches students responsibility. Cell phones should be allowed in schools.
One reason that cell phones should be banned from classrooms is because students who use them fall into a daze of distracted learning. Classes are taught by teachers, whose goal is to give the student an educational experience, learning things they will need to apply to their later life. However, students on their cellphones are distracted from their learning and never use the lessons taught. Over 2,000 cellphone disturbances were reported in New York City in the past school year (Backstory). This means that over 2,000 people had issues with cellphones interrupting classroom discussi...
Why should phones be allowed in classroom? Phones should be allowed in classroom because they help in a lot of ways. Also our phones are with us 24/7. We don’t just use it for texting people or calling or on social media. They should be allowed in class because they keep us quiet at times. We get to listen to music while doing our work. Phones are in our everyday life.
Picture this, there has been a school lockdown, the suspect cut the landlines so no one could call the police for a rescue. However, the suspect was captured by the police much faster than he imagined. The last scene wouldn’t have happened if it was one decade ago, because cell phones were not popular in schools then. When it comes to cell phones, some people think they should not be permitted in schools, and other people think they should be permitted in schools. I agree with the latter opinion for the following reasons: Cell phones are an efficient way to communicate when emergencies occur in school; cell phones can be a great tool for learning during school hours; and the current prohibitive rules on cell phones are merely fruitless efforts. Cell phones should be permitted in schools, because they could be very beneficial and practical in schools.
Schools should allow cell phones in schools for children's protection and safety. Secondly, cell phones can keep you connected with your buddies. Instead of screaming, and yelling in the halls to ask your buddy for books, you can simply call them on your cell phone. Some students ask themselves, "If teachers are allowed to use cell phones in class?"... ...
Ever since incidents such as 9/11 and Columbine, high schools have started implementing new rules regarding cellphones. Cellphones regard the attention of building managers, teachers, parents, and students. Although teachers see them as a distraction and a way to cheat, they can be quite helpful to students. School districts should permit students to use cellular devices in school for purposes of improving their education and providing themselves a sense of security.
As Olga Kharif from nbcnews.com has made clear that “ Many schools have banned cell phones in school, but educators have begun changing their rule of using cell phones in school and are using them for research and other useful things. Olga Kharif point is that some classrooms have found a way for cell phones to be useful in some class for research and brainstorming any kind of ideas for any project or class work, the same as any type of laptop or computer does. Josh Higgins from Usatoday.com agrees when stating that cell phones are useful in school by providing students with help and also teachers and staff are using phonesto keep track of students work and other things. The essence of Josh Higgins viewpoint is that cell phones are useful in many ways and that it could educate other students that cell phones can also be used for classwork and collaborating.Of course, it is possible to disagree with the view that cell phones are going to be useful and could help students learn and instead argue that using cell phones is a waste of time and won’t help students learn. Also, people would say that cell phones that are used in school are going to have a negative impact on students education because of how easy cell phones can help them find the answer on any type of work or even a take home test. However, the weight of the evidence is on the other side. What must be remembered is that cell phones are used as a tool. They could help with many kids who are having a hard time with something in school and can help collaborate with other students with research, classwork or a group project and it could help them a lot.But also remember that in some schools, some of the wifi that teachers and principles used can be tracked and that could lead to a student being caught on an inappropriate website or talking to another student in a different
Electronics are a huge part of our society. “Out of the world’s estimated 7 billion people, 6 billion have access to mobile phones” (Wang). Over thousands of these cell phones are owned by students K-12. A major debate topic is should cell phones be allowed in schools? “Twenty-four percent of schools have banned mobile devices altogether and sixty-two percent allow them on school grounds, but not in the classroom” (Raths). Cell phones should not be allowed in school because children focus more on the phone than schoolwork, it will create more drama, and it promotes cheating.
Cell phones have only been in the picture for a short amount of time compared to how long people have been going to school but cell phones are everywhere now and make it difficult for schools to come up with what to do. As many believe they are a distraction and can be used for cheating and other negative stuff. There are also people that are highly in favor of having cellphones as they can be helpful with all the tools they provide and people who are not and it 's all about who makes a better argument. Cell phones used to just have communication abilities but that is far gone now you have the abilities to use apps and different functions that fit nicely into a school environment. Cell phones should be allowed in the classroom as cell phones provide positive benefits and are a helpful tool in learning.
Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Cell phones do not only allow students to stay united with friends and family, but cell phones are also a magnificent learning system, and they boost the liable use of technology.
First of all, students absolutely should not be permitted to use cell phones during school hours because it is a distraction to other students. This is an issue that plays a huge role on student’s lives because it takes away from their academic education. The s...
