The current times are filled with science fiction style technology, from Google Glass to cars that can drive and park themselves. Many people are intrigued enough to buy into the latest updated technological wonders. Cell phones are no exception, they have evolved from an emergency based communication to mini handheld computers, and the most convenient way of connecting with each other. It has become simple to text, e-mail, and yes, to even call someone at any time and from anywhere in the world. In some cases, cell phones have been called an extension of human beings, and some are considered "cell phone addicts". For the young person who has just discovered this new world lying in the palm of their hand, this is especially true. As the parent …show more content…
If a cell phone is allowed to be used in the classroom, this creates an atmosphere of distraction as well as an inability to understand how to fully concentrate on assignments. This also can lead to lack of preparedness for testing in all capacities. The long term effects could be numerous, ranging from the students failure to succeed in school, to the lack of federal funding needed for the school system, all based on low test scores. The immediate impacts are easy to identify, and add up over time. Since they are busy tending to their latest playlists and social media, students do not seem to have an understanding of the material, or clear expectations of homework assignments. They do not get all the work done that they need to do in class, causing them more work to do at home. In some cases, the work that needs to be done at home is excessive and cannot be done in one evening. This results in the student being behind in the class. These students could end up lacking the skills they need to learn to work and thrive in the classroom. These are needed skills that will advance them into college, and/or a career. It is not clear why the statement in the school policy allows cell phones at the teacher 's discretion, but it is reasonable to think that the teacher 's may be overstepping the rules as well. Any parent who monitors the cell phone activities of their child that attends this school can obviously see …show more content…
The office has a land line and all classrooms have at least one computer. If the option exists that students have cell phones in the class, but they are turned off, it is irrational to think that they would not use their phones if there were an emergency. Some may think that allowing the students to use their cell phones will help with morale, and these students will enjoy the class more if they have these freedoms. Some teachers may be tired of fighting the issue, and allow them to use their phones after in class work is done, which means that these children are not receiving a full class of instruction. Others may think that listening to music while doing in class work increases the students ' productivity. Again, the monitoring of students by their parents has shown that they are doing more than listening to music, and their productivity is down. What teenager would not access social media and send text messages in class if they could get away with
The world’s first mobile phone call was made on April 3, 1973, when Martin Cooper, a senior engineer at Motorola, called a rival telecommunications company and informed them he was speaking via a mobile phone. The phone Cooper used, if you could call it that, weighed a staggering 1.1kg and measured in at 228.6x127x44.4mm. With this prototype device, you got 30 minutes of talk-time and it took around 10 hours to charge.”(knowyourmobile). Back then cell phones weren’t as flashy but everyone was just as excited for them as they are now. “Many of the early cell phones were considered to be “car phones,” as they were too large and cumbersome to carry around in a pocket or purse. However, in 1983, the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x arrived on the market. Though huge by today’s standards, it was considered the first truly mobile phone because it was small enough to carry.”(artinstitutes).
There is no real "problem" with cell-phones in themselves. Students just need to learn, and remember, that there is a time and a place for everything. A cell-phone should generally not be used in class, unless perhaps somebody is standing at the front of the room with a gun, or if there was some other calamity, such as: kids making bomb threats and what not - for these reasons I find it completely reasonable for a child to be permitted to be equipped with a powered "ON" cellular device. I don't know about you, but if I have kids one day who are potentially in danger, I would want to be aware of this at once.
These days, every student carries at least one to two mobile phones. Mobile phones are anywhere and everywhere on the streets. Now there are games, music and camera functions available on a mobile phone and the usage of it is increasing every day. Mobile phones are not just used for calling or texting anymore. Although some think the use of a cellphone in a learning institution, specifically school can be used positively in order to enhance the students learning, the same cell phone can effect students negatively in many ways. Cell phones should not be allowed in high school or college classes because it is destroying our students’ futures by not letting the students focus on their education, hurting other students, and lastly, it is ruining
What is the first thing that comes into your mind when you think of cellphones in schools? Is it a slacker in the back of the room texting their friend? Well, it seems like the future for this idea of phones in school involves kids using their phones as clickers, interacting with SMARTboards, etc. Cell phones can be used as a learning tool, as a safety tool to contact parents/officials, and teaches students responsibility. Cell phones should be allowed in schools.
One reason that cell phones should be banned from classrooms is because students who use them fall into a daze of distracted learning. Classes are taught by teachers, whose goal is to give the student an educational experience, learning things they will need to apply to their later life. However, students on their cellphones are distracted from their learning and never use the lessons taught. Over 2,000 cellphone disturbances were reported in New York City in the past school year (Backstory). This means that over 2,000 people had issues with cellphones interrupting classroom discussi...
Schools should allow cell phones in schools for children's protection and safety. Secondly, cell phones can keep you connected with your buddies. Instead of screaming, and yelling in the halls to ask your buddy for books, you can simply call them on your cell phone. Some students ask themselves, "If teachers are allowed to use cell phones in class?"... ...
It 's hard to believe it 's only been 10 years since the debut of the iPhone. In that short time, smartphones have become so ubiquitous that an estimated two-thirds of Americans own one, and there 's a term — nomophobia — for smartphone addiction. Are you one of the remaining few who still uses a phone that doesn 't double as calendar, camera, and wallet? Now is the time to take the leap. The newest smartphones offer more features and functionality than ever before, including a few things you 've never even dreamed of.
Ever since incidents such as 9/11 and Columbine, high schools have started implementing new rules regarding cellphones. Cellphones regard the attention of building managers, teachers, parents, and students. Although teachers see them as a distraction and a way to cheat, they can be quite helpful to students. School districts should permit students to use cellular devices in school for purposes of improving their education and providing themselves a sense of security.
When was the last time someone was on their phone while talking to you? When was the last time you went a day without looking at a screen? Just like majority of the world your answer so long ago that you cannot remember. With that being said, electronics are a first world necessity that a majority of privileged people cannot live without. New and improving technologies have made their way into the hands of millions around the world in the form of tablets, smartphones, etc. These imperative objects further the world’s access to information and boosts communication through means of search engines and social media; however, when there is a good equally present is a bad. So the question left to answer is, should the world rely so heavily modern
Cell phones should not be allowed in school because children focus more on the phone than schoolwork, it creates more drama, and it promotes cheating. Cell phones should not be allowed in schools because kids are always wondering what their friends are doing and what is happening outside of school. If they have access to their phones all day, then they will be glued to them. Phones are more entertaining than a teacher lecturing at the front of the class. Most students will start to zone out, or fall asleep, when a teacher starts a lesson.
Are you in the market to buy a new iPhone? With Apple creation of the iPhone 6, many college students might choose a new mobile carrier service. When choosing from AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon, it can be hard to figure out the differences between the companies. There were times when AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon had similar plans and rates. With the advancement in technology in the iPhone 6, many college students are looking for cellular carrier who can support their iPhones.
With the click of a button, a swipe of a finger, and a few taps on a touch screen, students have access to any amount of information they could ever want, or need. Some students might use this information for good and just for study, or use it to try and help other students who are struggling in the class. The few that would not, however, would cheat and not be honest on their exams and assignments. These few choice students, who will cheat, or text, and who 's phones would make distracting and loud noises, are why it is a much better policy to ban all smart phones from classrooms, rather than allow students to have them.
Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Cell phones do not only allow students to stay united with friends and family, but cell phones are also a magnificent learning system, and they boost the liable use of technology.
My sister is fifteen years old and she is always on her cell phone. This situation bothers my parents some times because when we are together as a family she does not care and she uses her cell phone. From my point of view, cell phones cause addiction on teenagers because they want to know what is happening in this virtual world receiving messages, pictures or videos all the time. Addiction is a tremendous problem for teenagers because they cannot control it and it gets over time. The addiction of cell phone on teenagers could be for different applications including games applications, social medias applications or pictures applications. To add, cell phones addiction change teenager’s behavior because they become more aggressive and impatient. If someone distracts them, they can react aggressive instantly because they just want to play in their cell phones. These changes in their behavior alter their environment such as school, family, and friends. Cell phones create addiction in teenagers that must be treated with a doctor as a disease before it has more severe
