Competency statement CS-11 To advance physical and intellectual competency is to provide age appropriate environment including but not limited to materials, activities, curriculums. When teaching my goal is to provide activities that age appropriate but can easily develop their skills into the next level. As a teacher, my goal is to provide plenty of materials to go along with theme and that meets every child’s personal needs whether it is to make it simpler or a touch bit more details. I think it is important for teachers to focus on competence of understanding and figuring out the outcomes. Nine learning experiences- Gross motor (CG 2.1) Gross motor is crucial to a child’s development in and out of the classroom. I try to add in the theme lesson plans an activity the child leads through being creative and with all sorts of materials available. I have observed when you allow a child to be hands on and leading the process they become more interested in the information, and excited to ask questions even to share with everyone what they made and how it fits with the lesson. Nine learning experiences- Language and literacy (CG 2.4) In my class, I have children who speak other languages at home, my goal is to include them and their language into our daily routine and this help teaches the other children to be open to the difference. I incorporate this into our classroom by hanging both language’s around our room, and go over the basic’s words during our group time for example, numbers, colors, shapes, basic sight words. The children’s whose first language maybe different will be excited to share with their friends what they know. I also find stories that are bilingual to use during our story time.
