My Physical Education Philosophy The goal of this paper is to inform others of my reasoning why physical educators are important and why it is my dream to become one. There are three main points I would like to discuss: the value of physical education ,being a role model ,and why it is my dream to become one. The value of physical education P.E. teachers bring to schools and their students. P.E. has an effect on everyday life. With this in mind I feel P.E. is highly valuable. Physical education activities have development in mind. Children can participate in a variety of activities and are encouraged to achieve overall wellness by continuously staying active. In physical education, children are not evaluated on how well they can play a specific game. This in turn helps children achieve overall self esteem. To acquire good self esteem, one must have a good model. Role models can make a huge difference in a child's life. My Physical Education teacher had a major impact of effecting of what I want to be now. Aleta Jo Crotty helped me to learn to take responsibility for my actions, and in my choices I am in control. By using guidelines that was set by her for my life, I hope to reach just one child. P.E. teachers must also encourage creative ability and the importance of overall health, socially, physically and emotionally. I feel that if a student has a good role model than they can achieve success in all of the areas mentioned. P. E. teachers teach skills that I know are necessary to mold healthy children for a healthy future. In order to achieve such skills it is also important that children have a safe environment in which to exercise motor skills. As children grow, they become more interested in the world around them through the use of motor skills . P.E. can help each child with development of these skills. P.E. teachers can take the time to look at children as a whole rather than in separate parts.
To advance physical and intellectual competency is to provide age appropriate environment including but not limited to materials, activities, curriculums. When teaching my goal is to provide activities that age appropriate but can easily develop their skills into the next level. As a teacher, my goal is to provide plenty of materials to go along with theme and that meets every child’s personal needs whether it is to make it simpler or a touch bit more details. I think it is important for teachers to focus on competence of understanding and figuring out the outcomes.
Gaines shows this through Jefferson’s trial. When Jefferson’s attorney is attempting to defend him, he states, “What justice would there be to take this life? Justice, gentlemen? Why I would just as soon put a hog in the electric chair as this” (pg.10). This implies that, during this time period, white people did not view black people as human beings or capable of intelligence. Despite this attempt to help set Jefferson free, the jury still saw him as guilty because of his skin color. Even the town’s sheriff and another white man objectify Jefferson by making a bet about whether or not Grant will be able to “make him a man” before it is time for him to be put in the electric chair. Through these incidents, Grant displays how racism and prejudice can ruin another’s life and how they view
The purpose of this research is to first define physical education. Then, I will explore the history of P.E. In the following section, I will compare and contrast the PE curriculum from past to present. Next, a description of the schooling requirements to become a physical education teacher will be given. Finally, I will share a reflection of my experience with an actual Physical Education teacher. Being a P.E teacher is the career I want, so why not research and get ahead on things?
This shows that it is possible to be successful even under terrible circumstances. “‘You’re one great teacher, Grant Wiggins,” he said. “I’m not a great teacher. I’m not even a teacher.” “Why do you say that?” “You have to believe to be a teacher.’” (pg. 254) Grant taught Jefferson only the things that Grant though was important. Jefferson’s last words show that he was strong, that he calmly walked his unjust death, which shows that you can become strongest in the worst of times. “‘And that’s all we are, Jefferson, all of us on this earth, a piece of drifting wood, until we-- each one of us, individually-- decide to become something else. I am still that piece of drifting wood, and those out there are no better. But you can be better... Do you understand what I’m saying to you, Jefferson? Do you?” He looked at me in great pain. He may not have understood, but something was touched, something deep down in him-- because he was still crying.’” Grant says that he is still a floating piece of wood, unsure where to go with his life. He is telling Jefferson that he can decide what to do with himself,-- either continue to act like a hog, or realize that people really do care for you-- that Jefferson can become something more than what he is. He can make people see how unjust his death is. This shows that even under the most dire of circumstances, a
Physical education should be a fun class, but fun does not have to mean chaos. I believe in a structure that will allow the students to have fun in a safe way. My lesson plans will be structured so that students are constantly engaged in physical activity. I feel that if I can keep students moving and learning, then the chances of misbehavior will decrease. In elementary school I feel that Instant Activities should be used to get students moving when they get into my class. High school is a little different. I feel that students at the secondary school level should be introduced physical fitness activities that will help keep them in shape later on in life.
Amongst all the classes students are required to take from elementary to high school, the one that students are most excited to participate in is physical education. Whether the students are playing a game of tag on the playground or a friendly game of dodge ball during P.E., they are giving their bodies the exercise it needs to promote healt...
Throughout an educational discourse, inclusion is a highly debated subject throughout the curriculum. During the past decade, there have been exceptional levels of funding and resources solely aimed at physical education and school sport within the United Kingdom (UK). The DFE suggests that 57% of children with SEND attend a mainstream school (DfES 2007). Physical Education (PE) has been a rising topic of discussion due to decrease in activity and an increasing level of child obesity within the UK(Coates and Vickerman 2009). There are various implemented strategies such as Physical Education School Sport and Club Links (PESSCL) and Physical Education and Sports Strategy for Young People (PESSYP), which are instruments to ‘direct and guide practice and policies’ (Fitzgerald and Stride, 2012). Using these governmental strategies, schools try and challenge and attempt to increase participation and engagement with the aim of providing ‘high quality PE lessons’ (Griffin 2012), which targets the government initiative particular the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games to encourage an promote inclusive PE and school sport (Green 2009). Additionally, Fitzgerald and Stride (2012) distinguish on the concluding issue of inclusion should be recongised as part of a broader international concern to promote inclusive education (Forlin et al. 2008). There are various aspects, which are of high debate within inclusion regarding the national curriculum, initial teacher training and experiences of student and teachers.
27th in mathematics, 17th in reading, 20th in science. I am of course referring to our United States of America, a country that prides itself on greatness and excellence, excellence in the purest sense of the word. 27th in mathematics, 17th in reading, 20th in science, and we act as if there is even a question as to where the budget should go in our educational system.
“Physical education teachers, also called P.E. teachers, instruct students in health, fitness and sports. They may work in public or private schools, teaching students in grades K-12.The main focus of Physical education teachers is to improve the person’s knowledge of the body and make their bodies better physically and mentally. ” (study.com). In physical education I plan to help kids or even adults better themselves. I want people to be healthy and physically in shape. I want to make a difference in the community. Physical Education is a way to help people and build some discipline/character in the school systems. “In fact, many studies are now displaying that kids who are substantially active also perform better in the classroom.” (www.sparkpe.org).
Teaching is important to me because I believe in the true value of self and group improvement. Life is an uphill challenge to better yourself and the environment in which you live. With improvement in mind, who could be more important than the teachers who construct and facilitate that improvement? The special area of improvement that I focus on is physical education. Physical education is crucial in the development of an individual who wishes to live a long healthy, and prosperous life. Physical education shapes the mind and body through social interaction, physical activity, real world experiences, and most importantly the opportunity to challenge yourself and test your own limits.
For most children growing up, school can often be the first place that a students are introduced to physical equipment and personalized time set apart for them to work out. I like, many other student in high school, was given physical education class. The experience in class was not only a bonding experience between my friends and I. Yet also a chance for me to work on my physical fitness. Unlike my other class I was able to jump and run, stretching not only imagination and my limbs. In schools today students
Physical education can help children in the classroom as well. Physical educators can incorporate math or science into their lessons. If they are jump roping, they can skip count by 6s for as long as they can, or in a station, put together a puzzle of bones to form the body.... ... middle of paper ...
As a Health and Physical education teacher, I plan to be a role model for every student that I teach. Not only do I want to be a role model for my students but also I want to be an inspiration. I want to inspire my students to do their best and reach for the top. I hope to touch the lives of the children that I meet, as well and help them progress. My first goal will be not only to teach my students the different aspects of physical education, but also to help them use these skills out side of the classroom. I hope to show students that there is more to what they are learning, by showing how to use the skills. I believe that students not only need someone to teach them, they also need someone to guide them in a positive directi...
“Physical education plays a critical role in educating the whole student. Research supports the importance of movement in educating both mind and body. Physical education contributes directly to development of physical competence and fitness. It also helps students to make informed choices and understand the value of leading a physically active lifestyle. The benefits of physical education can affect both academic learning and physical activity patterns of students. The healthy, physically active student is more likely to be academically motivated, alert, and successful. … Throughout the school years, quality physical education can promote social, cooperative and problem solving competencies. Quality physical education programs in our
In A Lesson Before Dying, Mr. Grant Wiggins' life crises were the center of the story. Although he was supposed to make Jefferson into a man, he himself became more of one as a result. Not to say that Jefferson was not in any way transformed from the "hog" he was into an actual man, but I believe this story was really written about Mr. Wiggins. Mr. Wiggins improved as a person greatly in this book, and that helped his relationships with other people for the most part. At the start of the book, he more or less hated Jefferson, but after a while he became his friend and probably the only person Jefferson felt he could trust. The turning point in their relationship was the one visit in which Jefferson told Mr. Wiggins that he wanted a gallon of ice cream, and that he never had enough ice cream in his whole life. At that point Jefferson confided something in Mr. Wiggins, something that I didn't see Jefferson doing often at all in this book. "I saw a slight smile come to his face, and it was not a bitter smile. Not bitter at all"; this is the first instance in which Jefferson breaks his somber barrier and shows emotions. At that point he became a man, not a hog. As far as the story tells, he never showed any sort of emotion before the shooting or after up until that point. A hog can't show emotions, but a man can.
