My interest in nursing is fairly new; I had not explored the potential that a nursing career can offer. I became familiar with nursing professionally after becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. While working with patients, side-by-side with nurses I became enamored with the potential of a nursing career. I now have a rewarding career working as a Medical-Surgical nurse on a Medical University Hospital floor that specializes in Transplant, Nephrology and Urology. Nursing encompasses the ideologies that fuel my passion, upon further research, and conversation with coworkers I realize my career goal of Family Nurse Practitioner; affording me the privilege to care for others by reaching out to various

Nurses need a seat at the table to ensure they have a voice to influence and shape their future. Nursing is constantly evolving and changing, and employers continue to raise the bar for nursing. Nurses understand early in their career the importance of continuing education to enhance future career opportunities. This advanced knowledge is not only career boosting, but also opens a seat at the table giving nurses the power to make decisions and effect changes. The Lesson- I will be teaching point of view and perspective. Through this lesson students will be expected to identify the point of view of stories based on clue pronouns. We started this lesson by taking notes on four different point of views and the clue pronouns associated with each point of view. Then we discussed stories we have read and their point of view. Finally we ended the lesson with a writing assignment where each student had a picture and they had to write a story about the picture in first person, second person, and third person limited and omniscient. The following day the first assessment was given. The next week we reviewed the lesson adding the J factor to it. I created a prezi reviewing our notes taken the week before, this included a fun point of view song by flocabulary. Then we played a mingling game. Each student has a card with a passage from well-known novel, poem, or story. Their job was to mingle around the classroom and when the singing stop the first person they saw was their partner. They were expected to read their card to the
There are several factors that can make professional development beneficial. I believe that most important thing that makes professional development successful is that it is applicable to your situation and it is ongoing. In my experience, some of the best ways to achieve this have been through instructional/literacy coaches and teacher-based teams. I am a visual learner so it always helped me to watch another teach or coach model the strategy that I was trying to implement within the context of my actual classroom. I have also benefited from having a coach observe me implementing various strategies and offering suggestions to make it more successful. I have also found it extremely beneficial to meet frequently with teacher based teams.
Adult Nursing is a very rewarding career which provides endless opportunities. I would describe myself as a caring and compassionate person. I believe I possess these qualities naturally. I am compelled to put other people’s needs before my own. I can contribute my personal qualities to this course of being dedicated and determined into committing myself to this 3 year course and excelling academically. Personally, caring for my mother with high blood pressure made me interested in the world of medicine. This long term sickness inspired me to gain more experience outside of the home and volunteer which confirmed that this was the right course for me. I am fascinated by the practical aspect that the course involves as well as the theoretical
I will start by explaining the methods that make it easier for me to know my characters and skills. The first method is self-knowledge (McBride, 2010). Self-knowledge is “knowledge or understanding of one 's own capabilities, character, feelings, or motivations” (Merriam Webster, 2015). I believe the foundational element in achieving my personal and professional success is being knowledgeable about myself. Self-development starts with self-understanding. When the individuals recognize their own personality, social and emotional intelligence, strengths and abilities, it makes easy to improve their performance, address the gaps in their competencies and build around their strengths (Fallon, Begun & Riley, 2013). Self-knowledge is the way that assists me in scrutinizing my behaviors and attitudes and being more recognizable about my strengths and weaknesses traits.
