Family Nurse Practitioner Admission Essay Sample

There have been three constants that have sparked a passion in my life; caring for others, education and my love for the Hispanic community. These three passions have been a driving force in leading me to where I am today, both in my career and my personal life. I am confident that these constants will continue to be my motivating propelling me to reach the pinnacle in the nursing field, obtaining and practicing as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
My interest in nursing is fairly new; I had not explored the potential that a nursing career can offer. I became familiar with nursing professionally after becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. While working with patients, side-by-side with nurses I became enamored with the potential of a nursing career. I now have a rewarding career working as a Medical-Surgical nurse on a Medical University Hospital floor that specializes in Transplant, Nephrology and Urology. Nursing encompasses the ideologies that fuel my passion, upon further research, and conversation with coworkers I realize my career goal of Family Nurse Practitioner; affording me the privilege to care for others by reaching out to various

communities, and continue my education.
While working on a mission field in Nicaragua I was able to gain insight into the work of a Nurse Practitioner, I am fluent in Spanish, I was able to work hand-in-hand with a Nurse Practitioner and witness this vital role in healthcare.

This experience is the very foundation in which my aspirations are rooted, fostering changes both professionally and academically. My objectives include caring for others in a setting that reaches out to communities, with a focus on the Hispanic community. Becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner, I will be able to holistically care for children, adults, and seniors; an important aspect of Hispanic culture. Education is crucial to personal and professional growth; with this in mind I look forward to instilling the love and compassion I have for nursing to future nursing

professionals.
I am a great candidate to become a Nurse Practitioner for many reasons, including my bilingual experience teaching others, learning from peers and taking on leadership roles. As a tutor in high school, Teaching Assistant, Nurse Assistant, and my current role as a Transplant nurse, education has been a vital tool I have utilized throughout my career. Serving as a member of shared governance and as class representative I learned the value in both clear communication and prioritizing the needs of others. I look forward to sharing my experience and take on the responsibility of educating patients on safe practices, medications and health promotion.
I value all educationally opportunities learning from many people, including coworkers, professors, Nurse Practitioners, and people of the Hispanic culture. I learned the importance of evidence-based practice from my professors, the art of delegation from coworkers, the skills of advanced nursing practice from Nurse Practitioners, and finally the Hispanic culture from the friends and family I have made in countries such as Chile, Mexico and Nicaragua.
My experience professionally and personally has laid the foundation that makes me an excellent candidate for a Family Nurse Practitioner. My vast knowledge of the Hispanic culture and language will bridge gaps within the current healthcare field, as I continue my education. Every step of my journey has led me to this position encompassing the ideologies that fuel my passion and pursuing my Family Nurse Practitioner degree.
