At my work place, each member of the team is influenced and guided by the teams overall vision and strategic direction. We do have policies and procedures, which reflect the vision and strategic direction of the team. If we look at the governments vision‘Your health, your care, your say’, one area of this vision is ‘Protection’. The importance of ensuring, that there are sensible safeguards policy in place, against the risk of abuse or neglect as risk, is no longer an excuse to limit people’s freedom. We have targets, which are reviewed as the part of team development activity. The process of review, usually raise issues around how the team works together and highlights what will enable us to grow and develop our practice. Out targets are focused on service users. Accurate and timely feedback is required. The purpose for agreeing realistic targets for work, is to keep everyone on task and focused on accomplishing a target that is obtainable, not out of reach. This way, everyone can contribute effectively and reach targets efficiently, instead of struggling to achieve the impossible. The benefits include, fast and reliable compliance and completion of tasks at hand. The purpose of agreeing and setting high standards for work assures, that each member of the team, tries their hardest and always reaches for new heights. By setting a high standard,, there is no room for excuses, and the atmosphere in the workplace becomes one of excellent behaviour and work completion. Everyone benefits from setting high expectations for themselves. Everything can be done better, faster, and more efficiently.
There is never room for an "I can't" attitude. Striving for the best is the true meaning of excellence. One can set high standards for work, by putting 100% into every task. By putting forth the best effort, only the best results can be produced. By challenging ourselves in areas of weakness, self-improvement is sure to follow. Focus on Your Team- So often as a society, we only think about our own success that we will do anything to achieve it. Working in teams is often difficult since you are required to adjust to doing what’s best for the team as compared what is best for yourself. Reading the Earnest Shackleton case study was truly inspiring, for we saw how dedicated Earnest was to making sure his crew was happy and healthy. He would forgo food so his crew would be able to eat, and he spent time entertaining them so their spirits wouldn’t be diminished.
