The intention of this essay is to reflect upon the competencies which I encountered in the business challenge autumn semester module. The team which I was placed in was given the £100 challenge. Our intention was to use the money to start a business, with a lot of market research that would generate a lot of profit. Some important competencies which enabled my group to aim at this have been recognised in the following paragraphs. They, in some ways affected the outcome of this challenge. In order to provide more insight on the challenge, an assessment of the entire module has been carried out.
A very important competency which I encountered in the challenge was teamwork. This was very crucial to the £100 challenge because in my group, all the work was done by everyone as a whole. There was no real division in the work. As a team, we had to decide on what business to carry out. I proposed that we should make and sell brownies at the student union. This was because during various visits to the student union, I saw how well students patronised other students who sold baked items there to raise funds for various purposes. Two of my group mates tried to shut this down immediately stating instead that it would be better to sell flowers, which they wanted us to buy from Manchester. This idea seemed very unrealistic to me because looking at the transportation cost alone, Well that was just a no go area. We kept on going back and forth on this issue until our fourth group mate finally met with us and suggested advertising for small local businesses. I looked at both our arguments and knowing we had to reach a compromise at some point in time, this seemed like the best deal to forge into. We decided to go with this option. I think this opti...

... short of our actual performance in the structure this module had. This method forced each of us to sit up and actually think like the business men and women we needed to be in order to conduct our business and come up with a profit.
Overall, I found this module really challenging as I had never had such an experience. Despite the challenging nature of the module it went really well for me. In regards to how I contributed, I had to step up sometimes to assist our group leader. She was always available but it felt like she had her head in the clouds. She kept on coming up with some unrealistic ideas that were not feasible with the amount of money which we were given. In the future even though it might make me uncomfortable, I would suggest that there should be two leaders, that way both I and the other leader can put our heads together and achieve the laid out goals.
I found working within a team enabled us to spread responsibility and we determined ...
In the captivating, mysterious, and perplexing novel Fifth Business by Robertson Davies, the role of women is not only a vital but a pivotal aspect throughout the life and psychological journey of Dunstan Ramsay. Robertson Davies is famous for under-developing female characters in general; not fully creating female characters the audience can entirely understand, discover and engage, at least not to the same degree with which he develops male characters. Although the portrayal of female characters is limited, their true purpose may be much more significant than it initially appears:
Up until this year, before taking the class intermediate composition, I thought I was a terrible writer. I was right. Writing isn’t something that I enjoy doing, nor am I good at. Writing is difficult for me because I’m not very good at explaining things in a professional manner, that can be easily well written. While writing you are expected to make little to no mistakes, which is not something I’m great at. I am so much better at explaining things with verbal words rather than written words. I had not taken any extra writing classes before this year rather than the mandatory ones. Like I had stated before, I hate writing, with a passion. I dread writing anything, especially an essay for school, like this one. I’m
Initial Reflective Essay When I first thought of what I wanted to do with my life after college, the first thing I thought of was helping people. The next step in deciding what I wanted to do with my life was to examine how I could accomplish this goal. I started pondering and I was thinking about how much I love to take care of my body. Health care and personal hygiene has always been an important factor in my life. So I decided to major in Health Sciences.

...ew it in different perspectives. The outcomes were surprisingly insightful and greatly enhance my contribution towards the development of our business plan. In other words, it helped me to see both the positivity as well as the negativity in our ideas and thus stimulate improvements. This assignment also cultivated a sense of team spirit through teamwork and boost creativity through the development of thinking outside the box. Therefore, this assignment has definitely aid my knowledge in developing skills such as writing up comprehensive critical reflection and evaluating the risks of certain business ideas. One of the key assignments that I think has allowed me to develop the most during this module is the assessment centre. During this task for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, we were put into groups and given a specific budget of money that we could donate to a panel of charities, based on the company 's values. What I wanted to achieve was to get an insight into what the environment is like and the sort of exercises that take place so that I can become familiar with the process, and I can use it to my advantage. Going to the assessment centre, I was slightly nervous as I had never taken part in one before and for the fact that I was being marked on my performance, so I was unsure of what to expect, which made me feel uncomfortable. However, during the exercise, I became more comfortable as I got into the task and though that I made a valuable contribution to the group. I made a conscious effort to be confident in challenging the

Corporate governance is the set of guidelines that determines the control and organization of a particular company. The company’s board of directors is in charge of approving and reviewing changes to this set of formally established guidelines. Companies have to keep in mind the interests of multiple stakeholders, parties who have an interest in the company. Some of these stakeholders include customers, shareholders, management, and suppliers. Corporate governance’s focus is concentrated on the rights and obligations of three stakeholder groups in particular: the board of directors, management, and shareholders. Corporate governance determines how power is split between these three stakeholders. A company’s board of directors is the main stakeholder that influences the corporate governance of a company (Corporate Governance).
A diversified company has two levels of strategy: business unit (or competitive) strategy and corporate (or companywide) strategy. Competitive strategy concerns how to create competitive advantage in each of the businesses in which a company competes. Corporate strategy concerns two different questions: what businesses the corporation should be in and how the corporate office should manage the array of business units.
The leadership role at a brand new community hospital can be very challenging, and can even require from the best of leaders to reevaluate their leadership styles. In my business ethics class, we learned that a good leader must establish corporate values and promote corporate ethics. They must embrace change, stress accountability, and responsibility. During my internship at the Hillsborough Hospital Campus, I had the privilege to meet and talked to managers from different department of the hospital to learn about their leadership style. Each of the managers I spoke to explained to me why their leadership style work best for them. The three leadership styles that I found to be common among the managers are the concept of empowering in leadership,
The discipline I decided to write about was economics. Researching this major was interesting to me because it also happens to be my major. In order to write a well written paper about the major I used technique’s we learned about throughout this course. To be more specific, I used SWAP and RAIDS to aid me in constructing my essay.
This summer’s course in ‘Business and Society’ was a great opportunity for me to learn more about myself, my perspective of business, the role of government in society, policy makers and most importantly the views of the stakeholders. For the spring semester gone and this summer session almost all classes were tied into my major, giving me a better understanding on what I want out of my degree. My major here at Marymount Manhattan College is Finance and this class has surely helped me in figuring out, the workings of ‘big business’ and its impact on stakeholders. This course has helped me understand why many laws, at one point to me sounded absurd, but are in place to protect both industry and stakeholder. I never thought communication was such a priority in the business world until taking this class. From newly learnt material I see communication as a
...unication is most interesting and motivating course I have taken this semester.. I found that contacting professor for help in difficulties you face would really be beneficial the way you look things. I learnt to effectively communicate with professors and team members in a more professional member After 4 months through organized coursework, assignments, projects and teamwork I have a clearer vision of how business communication strategies work and really applied few of them in situations of my student life. However, the Business Communication text book was useless as I have never used it. I would like to say a big word of thank you to Diana, and all the fellow classmates of Business Communications X204
I am gratified to reflect on my Entrepreneurial Potential Self-Assessment. I have always enjoyed learning the concepts of running and managing a business. Personally, what I enjoy generally is implying these concepts in real life situations. Seeing the ‘real life’ effects are stimulating to me. I always saw myself running a stable/well- establish business; however, I never saw myself running my own business. For my part, I find that I do not have all the characteristics an entrepreneur should have. Therefore, the results are not surprising, but assuring of what my strengths and weaknesses are.
