Why School Should Start Later

Have you ever fallen asleep or been falling asleep during class? With schools starting later, that wouldn't be a problem. Changing the school day to start later would completely alter how students listen, learn, attend school, and even student health becomes better. By doing this, the school and students are one step ahead. To benefit the way students learn, school times need to start later. To start, a way to increase the way students learn is to start later. By doing this, it will increase participation, health, and sleep value. For example, the article "Pros and Cons of Starting School Later in the Day" it states "Studies have consistently shown that delaying the start of the school day leads to improved academic performance among students. …show more content…

Students are more likely to arrive on time when school starts later, reducing instances of tardiness. This improvement in punctuality positively impacts the overall productivity of the classroom, minimizes disruptions, and allows for a smoother start to the day's learning activities"(EducationalWave). So in total, a student's attendance would strongly piggyback off of how much time there is to get to the school. Attendance also inclines students' grades, since learning isn't a problem when there's so much of it throughout the day. Also, when it comes to attendance it is also shown again in the article "Pros and Cons of Starting School Later in the Day" it also states "In examining the impact of starting school later in the day on attendance and punctuality, it is evident that a shift in start times can significantly influence students' promptness and regularity in attending classes. Some might argue that school's early start times are just fine because with later ones there's too many problems, such as transportation and after school circulars. However if all schools were to move around the start times later then nobody should have any trouble with busing. Along with extracurriculars, there shall be more time in the day to stay awake knowing you will have that equivalent amount of sleep. The future of students will deeply reflect upon the actions the schools make. If the school were to make the start time later, that would by far impact students to become better for everyone's future. Clearly, in order to benefit students and to benefit teachers, schools need to start later. If the time was changed to later, the school would surely improve positively with physical and mental health, attendance, and grades. Unfortunately, if schools do not take action and start later in the day, students with lack adolescent sleep and lack of this sleep impacts a students overall health, wellbeing, and academic success, and it can even have long-term health
