When in the course of human events, students should be entering school a little bit later than the usual. This will give the student more sleep time which then will allow the student to think better when in school. This will also help a student be fully awake and not be sleeping in class. Although schools will now have been adjusted to fit with students sleep cycles, that does not mean that the students will actually get more sleep. Also, people do not think of the consequences such as conflicts with transportation.
Students may need to nap to compensate for energy expended throughout the day. However, if schools were to start later, adolescents would not have to nap, allowing for a larger window of time to spend with their families after school, even with a later start time. Another opposing argument is that students would have less time to participate in extracurricular activities. However, this issue can be resolved by making practices for sports and club meetings shorter and more frequent to accommodate the schedule variation. Overall, the benefits of later start times far outweigh the drawbacks.

This means that an average teen gets on average seven to eight hours of sleep when they need on average 9 ¼ hours of sleep as stated in the above paragraph. One man, Matt Gaetz stated, “The evidence is pretty one sided that high school students don’t have the same cognitive function that they have at eight or nine in the morning.” (Beaton). There are many pros to beginning the school day later. One pro is the reduced risk of teen crashes. The later start time would allow teens to be more alert while driving to school (Pro...

Later start times could lead to no sports or if there was sports it would lead kids missing the end of the day to attend sporting events and stay at school later for practices (Lewis). If kids are missing the end of the day then their school schedules would be shorter and it would become unfair for the unathletic children and the athletic children would become overwhelmed with practices plus having extra homework that they would have to go to their teachers to learn what to do on their free

Gabrieli recognizes that the pure increase in learning does not have an automatic effect on student achievement. The extended time must be prioritized and focused time. (Gabrieli, 237) Schools often try to accomplish many tasks or skills at once and this could lead to a lack of in-depth learning. (Gabrieli, 237) Another benefit of extended time is and extension in all areas of the curriculum. Not only will students get the individualized help they need from the subjects that they are behind in but they also get more time is every core subject. Permitting extensive learning in all subjects. Adding time in school also allows time for more physical education and a recess which is often being cut for schooling so that students can focus all time on improving academically. (Gabrieli, 237) Recess and physical education is an extremely important portion of a child’s development and this extended time allows for the student to get the time they need to be active while also having the ability to get more time in the
