Why School Should Start Later

Have you ever felt burned or drained while in class? Many students have said that they feel physically or mentally drained out from having to wake up so early for school and sit in a classroom for long periods of time. Others have stated that they enjoy the schedule and don’t believe that there should be any changes. Here are some reasons why schools shouldn't start later and what time they should actually start. Schools should start at the reasonable time of 8:30 a.m. It's not too late nor too early, and it is a time that is flexible for most people. One reason schools shouldn’t start later than they already do is because studies have shown that waking up early has shown signs of aggression, loss of motivation, or even discomfort in students throughout the day. In order to make it in time for school, they won't make it due to a delay in their schedule from not getting enough sleep. This can give them an absence or they could be late which would make them tardy, ultimately causing a detention or suspension. Which could have severe consequences for the parents or the student. It states, “Being chronically absent is strongly associated with failing at schooleven more than low grades or test scores. When absences add up, these students are more likely to be suspended and drop out of high school.” This quote proves that when a student of any age misses school, they can suffer severe consequences and they won't have a positive outcome coming out of the situation with the risk of detention or being a school drop
