“Beginners” The movie “Beginners” was a comical but also gloomy drama. Although it had some depressing scenes the film was well balanced. It was in a way painful to watch since from the beginning the audience knew what was going to eventually happen. There are various elements that made this film an interesting disheartening comedy drama. During the film the various elements that complete the experience are the shot, action, dialogue, acting, directing, and context. All of the elements have their role in the experience. Throughout the film the shot (lighting, costume, and set design) set most of the experience. The lighting during the film seemed to fit the mood for example, during some scenes the shot looked smoky or cloudy, but never dark and in scenes with Hal the sun seemed to shine …show more content…
The acting in a film plays a major role during the whole experience. In a way it sets the mood and how the audience sees it, and if they take it seriously. The actors/acting portraying the characters should be able to fit their character perfectly and each actor in the film seemed to portray their character just the way they were meant and, the movie seemed accomplish it. The acting showed the emotions each character felt, and the audience could understand the characters completely. The acting helped understand how realistic it was and how some of the scenes might be relatable to some. The directing during the course of the film was well done, and ultimately the director should be credited for the film’s success. After all the director did choose the actors and guided the whole “team” through the process of making the film. The director and writer Mike Mills, whose story inspired the film did an amazing job. The directing in the film and how it ultimately achieved it helped the audience understand the experience. Since the director directs the movie from the beginning it could be said that in due course sets the
After evaluating the 2081 movie, it is apparent the film elements and techniques are important when defining the mood. The four main techniques used throughout the film were lighting, music, sound, and dialogue.
The lighting in this movie is very effective. It helps to establish the characters very well. The audience is helping in distinguishing the bad and the good characters through the lighting. The movie overall is very stylized. There are some other strange lighting patterns brought out by Hype Williams, but by far the most effective lighting patterns are ones that help to characterize the main players in the film.
To create an atmosphere that both looks and almost literally feels like possibly the hottest day of the year, Lee uses orange and yellow filters throughout the film. Objects, as well as people seem to glisten in the light. Even scenes shot indoors have beams of light coming through windows and doors. The use of lighting is only one technique Lee uses to create a realistic feel for this film, which is pertinent w...
Acting of movie is very basic for todays standards. The actions of the Miles Bennell aren’t believable or logical. At some points the women of the movie tend of over action simple scenes. The rest of the cast is monotone and have little emotion. It ok casting, but they could of done better. You find yourself laughing at serious point in the film due to the poor acting. This movie could be recut to become a comedy movie, just based off their facial expression.
The acting wasn 't really great, but this film had a great variety of shots and that 's what leads me to believe that the editing group had the most control because they made it so that the final product had the suspense that it needed through editing. As for The Hitch-Hiker, I believe that the director had the most control over it. It was a very simple story, in general, but the acting is what elevates it and makes you wonder what 's going to happen next. I believe that the director carefully guided the actors and told them exactly how he wanted each moment.Overall, the films were pretty good. They were so similar and so different at the same time and it was good to see them back to back and compare their
All that the viewer needs to know in these early stages of the film is
What makes a film interesting? What makes it stand out from other films? What makes it unique? The visual design aspects of color and lighting in a film play a major role in giving the film meaning and depth. A lot of thought goes into what colors and lighting should be used that will help convey a mood and theme central to the film.
...successful collaboration of sound, colour, camera positioning and lighting are instrumental in portraying these themes. The techniques used heighten the suspense, drama and mood of each scene and enhance the film in order to convey to the spectator the intended messages.
Al pacino said, "The actor becomes an emotional athlete. The process is painful - my personal life suffers". In other words, "Acting is simply more than walking out on the stage" as Dr. Stevenson would put it. It is more than just reading the lines. To be a true actor, I believe it takes inner capabilities such as learning life. In all the books I have read, all the chapters we have reviewed in class, and in all honesty…Al Pacino is an actor I cannot forget.
Forth are Lighting and color. In case of Lighting, this film uses High key light that makes this film look like natural light and feel warm. In the case of color, some scene of this film use warm color to express love and warmth to audience such as in the wedding scene or some scene use dark color to express about sad feeling such as funeral scene and in scene that Rosie knows her dad was died. I think in some scene if you watch it in HD, it’s very beautiful such as in scene that Rosie drinks a cup of coffee and thinks about the past in sunset time because Lighting and color of sunset time is very
The first encounter between Caleb and Ava in particular, shows how much these actors can convey only using body language and few words. Using grey and red lights in darker hues makes this movie seem very mysterious and intriguing.
Anyone who views films for either enjoyment or critique has set expectations for a given film. Genera by far has the most to do with audience expectations and demands of viewers. Based on genera, expectation are set fourth for a film. For example, horror movies are expected to be scary and draw in an audience. Comedy on the other hand is meant to be funny and relatable to viewers. Both genera’s of film are designed to entertain an audience in one way or another. Yet the question at hand is what makes a good film? Why should viewers be enamored with one film and not another?
The low-key lighting punctuated with bright strobes of light help to escalate the terror and urgency experienced by the crew. The benefit of the most used style of lighting in the movie, low-key, was its ability to create the eerie and somber mood of being in space. It was then extended to creating the suspense and terror of the unknown and then eventually of the alien. The low-key lighting of the film contributed to the overall theme of the movie by accentuating the loneliness of space; while at the same time expressing the fear of the unknown by cloaking much of the surrounding environment in low light and
From the movie that we had watch which was entitled Honor thy Father, it was a very unexpected, unpredictable and an uncommon type of movie. It was unexpected for I have no any idea on what the movie is all about and it turns out it has a lot of scenes that caught my attention. Scenes where things happened like what it used to and what I got used to be and ending up it didn't happened which is very unusual in movies. The movie is about the real life or what really happens to people which is uncommon for a film. The director, Erik Matti, did a great job in portraying the real life situations in the movie and the usual circumstances of people. Watching the movie, I felt that the atmosphere of the classroom is somehow serious so I guess the movie
