Maintaining good health is what keeps the body going. It may seem simple, but having a high level of wellness is much more complex than just eating right and working out. Consistently making benefitual decisions in all aspects of life is necessary for achieving optimal health. Health can be measures by the Illness-Wellness Continuum, a scale that ranges from pre-mature death to high-level wellness. By using the seven dimensions of health, I can safely assume I would fall just under vibrant health. My physical health has always been a significant part of my life. Years of dancing established in me a sense of responsibility for my body and its functions. Yoga, biking on the beach, and taking walks in the woods keeps me operating properly. with fruits, vegetables, and meats. Being a longtime babysitter has given me to jovial job of consistently creating nutrious recipes. Starting college has put intellectual health at an all time high. Taking college level classes, especially ones in subject I am inadequate in, gives me the ability to assimilate new skills and ideals. I am enthusiastically open minded to the criticism and challenges my professors will present. My psychological health is one of weakest points of wellness. At the age of nine I was diagnostic with bipolar depression and chronic anxiety. When I was younger it caused me to be temporarily taken out of school for periods of time due to the tics and panic attacks I had developed. Although growing up with these disorders was nightmarish, I’ve learned techniques to not let it hinder me from living my life. My strong spiritual health helps combat my anxiety. I have a firm believe in God and that his energy can be felt throughout nature. Meditation, crystals, and pray bring me a sense of comfort in my everyday life.
My social health is a little lacking. My hectic schedule keeps me from seeing my friends often, but I’m at peace with that. I have strong relationships within my family, my boyfriend and his family, and the family I work with. Plus, I have the most affectionate little puppy in the world! Being blessed enough to nanny for the family I do has positively boosted my occupational health. They treat me as if I was there own child and always look out for my best interest. Having such astonishing support at my work place greatly benefits my environmental health. I also get the ability to take classes in a comfortable environment since they are online. For the future, I will continue to work on my psychological health. Although I come far from that depression young girl, small things such as long bridge, huge crowds, and small elevators can still bring me close to having a panic attack. I will also work on my social health by being more open to creating new friendships. I have a long way to go to achieve the most high levels of wellness, but with time and a conscious effect I will get there decision at a
time.
The notion of health is contextual and an interactive, dynamic process between person and environment (Schim et al, 2007). Both wellness and illness are conceptualized by the ‘person’, existing on a continuum across the lifespan (Arnold & Boggs, 2001).
Wellness is imperative to a healthy life. Sometimes, people do not really consider what makes up wellness, they simply think of it as being “well”. Wellness may be a state of being “well”, however, it incorporates different areas such as nutrition, health, safety, nurturing, and emotional stability. People must be healthy in all of these areas in order to achieve wellness. This is not an easy task for an adult, but definitely not for children.
My emotional wellness I cope with things that are around me. I usually do not communicate about my feelings. Also I really do not talk about my situations because I feel that my personal situations are not worth being shared to others only because I do not trust people easily. Introduction Wellness is defined by Robbins, Powers and Burgess1 in A Wellness Way of Life as an integrated and dynamic level of functioning oriented toward maximizing potential, dependent on self-responsibility. Wellness consists of many different dimensions, including achievement in emotional, spiritual, occupational, intellectual, environmental, social, and physical dimensions. Focusing on the physical dimension, it becomes obvious that physical fitness is essential for maximum wellness in men and women. Physical fitness is the capacity of the heart, lungs, blood vessels, and muscles to function at optimal efficiency (Robbins et al, 2002). A few ways to test for physical fitness is to measure cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular endurance, and flexibility.

In society today, there is an extensive range of definitions of health and wellbeing which can be seen as both positive and negative. A Holistic view can also be identified and defined. These definitions of health have changed over time and will carry on changing within the future. According to where a family lives or their social class everyone will have different meanings and views of health and wellbeing. This may be due to what one person perceives as being healthy as another person may not. Channel 4 learning (no date) describes that a positive view of health can be seen as when a person is more likely to achieve and sustain physical fitness from exercising and are mentally stable. Therefor a negative view can be described when a person is free from illness, disease, mental distress or anything which may be a symptom of not having good health. The holistic view of health sees the person as a whole instead of just directing at one area and therefore combines physical, social, intellectual and emotional factors together. Consequently, if a person has emotional difficulties such as how they interact with other people or how they may feel but are physically fit and free from illness does not mean that they are healthy overall as one factor has difficulties. It is also vital to consider the two main theoretical concepts known as the medical and social model of health. Polity books (no date) describes that the medical model views health in terms of disease, diagnosis and then treatment and very much views a body to be separate from psychological processes. You have to make good, healthy choices to be physically well. Eating healthy, exercising, and seeing a doctor on a regular basis for check-ups are all conducive to physical wellness. If one wants to live an enjoyable, fulfilling life they must know what it truly means to be well. Living a wellness lifestyle means incorporating all aspects of what it takes to flourish as a human being. It goes beyond the health of the physical body and incorporates the important social, emotional, and spiritual factors that play a part in every person’s life in one way or another. Knowing how to act correctly, control our feelings, channel our frustrations, and improve in each dimension of wellness will lead to a satisfactory life. Wellness incorporates the spiritual, emotional and social wellbeing of an individual. When it came to thinking, planning and developing my SMART goal I decided to focus on my physical health as this was an area that I needed to improve the most and would also contribute positively to my spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual and environmental wellbeing aswell. In this reflective essay I will discuss and reflect on this journey. This reflection will include why I decided to focus on this specific SMART goal aswell as how I found the SMART goal journey. I will then discuss my own view on my attitudes for health and wellness and will discuss what a SMART goal is and the importance of them in order to start working towards those goals and to positively change behaviours and habits. This reflection will also include challenges that may be experienced in relation to behaviour change. These may include time management and motivation.

There may be many occasions when individuals are not necessarily ill or in pain but may be overweight, stressed or emotionally unstable. Poor health also means more time lost at work, less quality recreational time, and shorter lifespans. Not to mention, the onset of major chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Throughout our healthy brains, healthy bodies course so far, we have learned time and time again about the strong and important relationship between our brains and our bodies. Health and wellness is not one single thing, it is a collection of practices, attitudes and ways of being in the world, which help us cultivate the best form of ourselves. Finding and understanding the ways in which we can best take care of ourselves, and then applying them, gives us the opportunity to improve our physical, cognitive, mental and emotional wellbeing. Embodying our healthiest selves helps not only us, it helps those around us by providing a positive example about how to exist within our own bodies, and exist within the world.
