There are three different types of leadership styles one can be considered. You have Autocratic leadership, where an individual makes all the decision making alone and does not consider what input others have (Hill, Howlett,255). This type of leadership is where the leader of the organization has a main focus on the task only and not everyone that in involved (Hill, Howlett,255). Then there is Democratic leadership, where everyone is able to have an input in the decision making process (Hill, Howlett,255). Finally, Laisse-Faire style is the last type of leadership, where the task is not a concern, the employees are the only concern in this type of leadership (Hill, Howlett,255).

I consider myself having democratic leadership.

I would research the schools online, look at what each school has to offer me. I would look into the degree program that I am interested in to and compare for each of the schools I was accepted too. I would compare how much each college charged for a credit hour vs what the other colleges charge. While I was doing all this I would keep an open mind and try not to just focus on that school that I was not accepted too. I would ask my parents to sit down with me while I research the schools, so they would be able to put their input in about what they felt was the better choice for me as while. When I went back to school I would set up an appointment with my high school counselor and ask for input on what school would be a good fit for me. Another step that I would take while deciding what college is the best for me is calling the counselors at the college and talking with them about what classes I would need to take in order to obtain a degree in the field I am working towards. I would pray about what school I felt God was telling me to attend. Before I made my final decision I would let my parents and school counselor know to make sure that everyone was on the same page about the best college match for
A democratic leader allows open communication by gathering ideas and feedback from employees. This type of leadership is very effective because it makes the employees feel more valued. They will feel like they are part of the decision making in the management process. Another type of leadership that Michelle uses is being a transformational leader. She inspires and motivates staff to function at the best of their ability. She has the characteristics of being an excellent leader by being charismatic, motivated, and determined to lead others. By using a combination of both of these leadership styles, it motivates the employees to perform at the best of their
(a) Autocratic, Democratic, Laissez-Faire are the three basic leadership styles. A leader who has Autocratic leadership style is primary concern is only job related and low consideration about the employee. They say to employees what to do and closely watch over performance and give little or no support for them to work out. Democratic leadership style is a high consideration about employee and low concern about job. Tell employees to do their way and oversee the performance at major stages and develop a supportive relationship with the employee. Laissez-Faire leadership style is low consideration about employee and job task. They provide little or no direction and support to perform. (b) My plan of action is getting an associate with the employee and support them what they really want better job performance as much as I can. I encourage to motivate them to work hard and help to build up their self-confidence with accomplishment.
I generally perceive myself as a quiet leader, someone who leads by example. I demonstrated leadership during my experience in the People to People program and Rutgers Biz Ed. The People to People program took place at Harvard University. It was a week long program taught us leadership qualities, how to prepare for college admissions, and learn how to serve our community. During the time I was in the program I participated in team work activities such as, rock climbing. The activity was done to show that we trusted our team to hold us up and for us to encourage others to climb higher than they thought could be possible.
This style has been defined as ( Abdicates responsibilities avoid making decisions)(Robbins 2001). That would mean leaders are not involved in taking decisions at all and they are available only to provide their employees with materials and answering questions, the subordinates have complete freedom to take decisions and set objectives (Chaudhry and Husnain 2012). In other words, this theory lacks any kind on powerful leadership. Hence, there would be lack of motivation, low levels of performance, and poor work practices(Packard 2009). However, if the employees are already motivated and have full understanding and high level of knowledge regarding the mission at hand, Lassies- Faire model might works fine (Gustainis and Roosevelt 2004) .
My style of leadership according to the quiz by Cherry (n.d.) is participative leadership which is a type of leadership that engages the members of the team to participate in decision making and problem solving while the leader makes the final judgment in the deliberation process. This style of leadership allows members who are experts in their fields provide input to reach a more effective and accurate decision. This fits exactly into my leadership style. I always believed that in every aspect there is a greater or lesser person than you are, so, why not focus on the best in others and tap on their expertise in knowledge or skill to get the best results.
The only challenge I may have is the slow decision making process when trying to include members in the decision making process. However, the advantage is that I would work with team members to make decisions which in return should increase their productivity because they are more involved in the process. The democratic leadership is also my preferred style because I’m more of a team player versus an autocratic leader. I would not demand my followers to do any task, I prefer to motivate my followers to success.
It is the nature, vision, and upbringing of the leader which helps them to determine which leadership theory fits them the most. A leader is the one who helps others to accomplish the goals. If there is any kind of intervention in the leadership style then most probably it would fail as the employee would be no more interested to work under the leader. A leader is someone who inspires others, helps them to view a goal and motivates them to achieve the goal. In a workplace, leaders come and go but the important thing is that leader who inspires others will leave a mark for the lifetime. Being a leader is not a difficult job, but leadership faces a jeopardy situation when a leader is incapable to answering the why and how questions. So, one should be very careful while acting as a
After completing the “Leadership Style Questionnaire” and analyzing my results, I have learned what my preferred leadership style is and how that influences how I lead and may be perceived from members of the group. From the results attained from the questionnaire, my preferred style of leadership is directing. This type of leadership style is best for individuals who have a low competency and high commitment level. These types of leaders are highly focused on tasks and less focused on relationships. They make decisions without consulting with the group and communicate without regarding the group’s concerns or suggestions. This type of leader also supervises the followers intently. They are very successful in creating objectives for each follower and the group as a whole to guide the group in reaching a certain goal.
Visionary leadership qualities help their project teams understand the true objectives and goals, as well as, how their contributions are important to achieve these goals (Preston, Moon, Simon, & Kossi, 2015). This very statement makes the visionary leadership style my number one go to style and my most beloved way of leading. To take a vision and to be able to correctly motivate and inspire your team with each individual contribution to get a job done and to further your project to the next level is amazing to me. Visionary will be the style I strive to work toward as a future leader. My number two style would be the Democratic style, mainly because Democratic leaders bring individuals together in order for everyone to give their thoughts, ask questions, and be involved in the entire project and its processes (Preston, et al, 2015). Getting teammates involved in all aspects of the project gives them a sense of
gave you my outline last week and you told me to sent a synopsis of the my book I'm writing about. No One Can Hurt Anymore is a story of a 10-year old boy named Andrew James Schwarz. AJ was killed by her stepmother Jessica Schwarz who blatantly told AJ that she never wanted a lil boy in her household especially AJ. AJ came from a very abusive family such as his mother and his stepdad. AJ mother Ilene was a crack addict and she was never kind to AJ since then Ilene becomes abusive to AJ. During his time with his biological mother AJ developed ADHD. After Ilene hit Aj with a frying pan in his head, she went to court and the judge made a decision to give Jessica Schwarz and David Schwarz ( Aj biological father) a sole custody of AJ. Within 3
Leadership can take many different forms, depending on the person and the situation in which it is needed. Collaborative leadership is a leadership style in which a leader brings together a large group of people, with a variety of backgrounds, to make a productive decision and act upon it. According to Chrislip and Larson (1994):
Leadership is defined as a process by which an individual influences others to obtain goals. There are three aspects that should be addressed when explaining leadership. One aspect is that leadership is a social influence process; leadership could not exist without a leader and one or more followers. Another leadership aspect is compliance; all of the leader’s directions must be complied with voluntarily. Compliance is what separates leadership from other influence-based formal authority. Finally, leadership results in the followers’ behavior, that is purposeful and goal-directed which must be in some organized setting (Leadership Theories and Studies, 2009).
Democratic leaders listen and act on the opinions of the group. This type of management is good as it makes the employees happy and productivity is high. This is very good because employee's thoughts and suggestions are listened to by the business. This makes the employees seem as if they are respected and that their thoughts are valid.
In this paper I will look at the four major leadership styles, their characteristics, advantages, disadvantages, and in what situations a particular leadership style is desired. Additionally, I will look at my leadership style and how I acquired this style throughout my career.
Participative leaders or better known as democratic leaders include team members and others, but making the final decision is up to the participative leader. Participative leaders build confidence and knowledge within team members because their inputs matter within decision making. It helps team members think their opinions help with decisions. If there is change that needs to be implemented a participative leader helps team members understand the change in positive way. I would definitely consider myself a participative leader because I love gathering as many opinions from people just in case I don’t see the situation from another point. It helps me put everything in a good perspective.
