Leadership Objectives There is a lot that I want to accomplish from my leadership practice, but initially I prefer to be very careful on implementing those. Each person has their own objectives to accomplish as a leader-scholar-practitioner. Similarly, I too have plans to implement. My plans that I want to accomplish as a leader-scholar-practitioner are as follows:
• Implementing proper communication channel: Communication is the soul of a workplace. Without proper communication, giving instructions may be ineffective. Proper channel improves the communication process and helps in maintaining good relationship. Besides, the feedback given by the leaders after each tasks tends to be very effective in the future (Conrad, 2014, pp. 105-106).

Likewise, my weakness would be the tasks that I am ignoring, lack of confidence in doing certain tasks, motivation skills, and may be some negative habits. My opportunity may be to grow according to the implementation of the technology, offering a solution whenever there is any complaints and lastly the threats may be unable to move with the current trend and unable to handle the workforce. It is the nature, vision, and upbringing of the leader which helps them to determine which leadership theory fits them the most. A leader is the one who helps others to accomplish the goals. If there is any kind of intervention in the leadership style then most probably it would fail as the employee would be no more interested to work under the leader. A leader is someone who inspires others, helps them to view a goal and motivates them to achieve the goal. To better understand the fundamental principles preceding leadership philosophy, we have to understand the theory of leadership development and its essential characteristics. You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink is a proverb I have heard since I was young. Leadership is the skill of influencing people to accomplish goals (Huber, 2014). In today’s world with policy and technological changes the leaders must use their leadership skills to not only get the horse to the water, have him drink, but also do it with a smile an invite others to join him. Leaders use a variety of styles to accomplish their goals. I will discuss the leadership style that I utilize most often, how my style relates to leadership theories and the work type environment it is most useful in.

I identify problems from my personal experience as an Ophthalmic Technician and System Analyst for the Department of Ophthalmology at The Ohio State University Medical Center. Before defining leadership style one must define exactly what is leadership? There are many interpretations of leadership as well as leadership styles but one common term pertaining to leadership is the ability to influence others to achieve a common goal or vision. Leadership is not an innate characteristic, but a complex suite of competencies, personal attributes and vision that requires development via education, exposure to work and issues, role modelling and mentoring with existing leaders. (Huges, Ginnett, Curphy, 1999)
Leaders can have a powerful impact on the futures of many, and the way in which one approaches leadership is paramount to the type of impact one will have. Continual growth in the areas of knowledge I have and seek to acquire, as well as recognizing my leadership style and utilizing my personal strengths to the fullest, is vital to the successful implementation of my personal philosophy of leadership.
The personal leadership development plan is to capture the self-awareness of an individual. People in general have a difficult time trying to figure out who they are and how they view themselves plus how others may see them. This plan will touch on my personal strengths, areas of improvement, and also identify me as a person more in-depth. I like the fact that the teacher pointed out that leadership can be found everywhere. Leaders don't necessarily exist only in a company where there are a lot of people following you. “Everyone has the potential and possibility to be a leader”. They could be the best at inspiring others, or best at solving problems or dealing with criticism. By and large we all have the necessities to lead and I find, during the group discussions, that the difference and uniqueness of us that give us our own perspective to view and do things. Leadership is also about understanding and combining many different talents and to make them work together to create the best result. There are many kinds of leaders out there, and so many leadership styles. Yet I think we shouldn’t categorised ourselves into one or identify our superiors into one. Why? Because I think it is crucial to be flexible and adapt to which way to lead according to the situations For example, the Democratic style maybe the most popular and most effective, yet it is proved to be counter-productive in urgent occasions requiring instant and firm decisions from one person only, and that is the
Vision and goals go hand in hand to help create a successful organization. As a leader, you cannot create goals without having a vision, and cannot realize the vision without setting goals to get there. An effective leader will need to have both a vision for the future, as well as a clear cut set of goals that will help a company to grow and achieve that vision. A leader needs to be committed to and passionate about their vision, and driven to accomplish their goals in order for their vision to be successfully realized.
Some people believe leadership and management are one in the same; however, this is not true because management involves planning, staffing, directing and controlling and, a manager is a person who performs these functions (Leadership Theories and Studies, 2009). The term manager is a formal title given to a person who has authority by virtue of his or her position or office. (Leadership Theories and Studies, 2009) Leadership, by contrast, is about influence; leaders use factors other than just their formal authority to influence subordinates. There are three major leadership theories developed from the 1930s to the 1970s which attempt to explain why some leaders are better than others, these theories are: trait leadership (1930s and 1940s), behavior leadership (1940s and 1950s), and contingency leadership (1960s and 1970s).
“The basic definition of leadership is guiding a group of people toward a common goal” (Martin, 2015). “Leadership styles were first defined in 1939 by a group of researchers led by psychologist Kurt Lewin” (Martin, 2015). They concluded that there were three different types of leadership styles, autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire. The study and research of leadership skills only started about seventy-five years ago, which is considered relatively new in the world of research. This research was first to consider that leadership skills could be taught and learned, and you are not just born with them. There have been many additional studies completed over the years and has brought to light numerous other leadership styles as follows:
The primary leadership theory I believe in comes from John Maxwell and speaks to the dual nature of leadership: leaders are both born and made. I believe that some individuals are born with innate leadership qualities and that those characteristics, though infantile, if cultivated, evolve through lifelong experiences, training and development. Maxwell asserts that born leaders require cultivation: “Leadership is developed, not discovered. The truly “born leader” will always emerge; but to stay on top, natural leadership characteristics must be developed”(Maxwell, 1993 p. viii). Maxwell indicates that individuals who want to become leaders fit into one of four categories: the leading leader, the learned leader, the latent leader or the limited leader.
My definition of leadership is being able to follow your ambitions and desires without worrying about any consequences. Supporting this statement would be because managers and leaders have similar qualities such as being responsible, flexible, and have good communication. Though the difference between them is that managers tend to be consistent and keep things in order without any changes but a leader tend to create for the future and motivate others to accomplish what is set out for the future. In order for this to be accomplished the leader must have great motive and purpose in what they are doing. This means you have to take initiative to make changes instead of be consistent and stay the same, when staying consistent that means the leader is falling into the management category.
