In conclusion, Kappa Delta is the best sorority on our campus. We are proud of our history and our commitment to helping others. Our philanthropies mean everything to us. When I joined Kappa Delta, I was a shy and awkward teenage girl. Now that I have been in the sorority for some time I have become a strong, independent, and self-assured woman. The purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha is to promote sisterhood in colleges to assure a bond between college women, and the sorority leads by being an example for other college women to follow. Alpha Kappa Alpha also promotes higher education and positive self-esteem to younger women. Alpha Kappa Alpha also gives back to the community in community service that could range from educating our women on relevant topics to just lending a hand in the community. Walking into college, I always wanted to join a brotherhood. But, it was hard to find the one for me at first. After striking out on a few other fraternities at SEMO, I didn’t know if Greek Life was for me. But after talking one night with Brian Smith, I would give my one last shot to Sigma Nu. The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Delta Omega Omega Chapter hosted the 49th Annual Debutante Cotillion on Saturday, December 17, 2016. Forty-two young ladies dressed in formal white gowns danced a Traditional Waltz with their fathers and escorts after a formal introduction to society. There are many different preconceived ideas about what it means to be in a sorority, and many of them are not good things. When I was in high school, if I heard the words “sorority sister” I would immediately think of drunk party girls who was most likely failing all their classes. That was my preconceived idea of what it meant to be a member of these groups, but after I have encountered various members of sororities, I know now that I was wrong. I wish to become a woman of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., because of the strong sisterhood this sorority displays. Through my mentors I’ve seen the true sisterhood that Zeta Phi Beta has. I come from family of all males so I feel that I’ve never had women to truly call my sisters. Having sister has always been a dream of mine. I also love the work in the community that this sorority does. Community service is very dear to my heart so the fact that this sorority does so much of that amazes me.
