The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Delta Omega Omega Chapter hosted the 49th Annual Debutante Cotillion on Saturday, December 17, 2016. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. was founded January 13, 1913 at Howard University by 22 Undergraduates. These 22 women were members of an organization known as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated., but branched off because of different views. The founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. wanted more than a social organization and was interested in making the sorority more political. Scholastic and political activism was important to the founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. The first political act the members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. participated in was the Women’s Suffrage March. The Women’s Suffrage March was a march that occurred in Washington D.C. because Women were not
A Dynamic Individual with Vitality and Attitude…these are the characteristics of a true DIVA. I never knew the real meaning of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated until I attended college. While I was a student in middle and high school, the lovely women of Delta Sigma Theta seemed intangible to me. I admired them and wanted to one day follow in their footsteps. The way they spoke, how they carried themselves, the respect they demanded and the attention they received just by walking into a room was mind boggling to me. And from those short encounters I knew I wanted to be apart of this prestigious sorority, but now I know why I need to be apart of this extraordinary organization.
Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. From my perspective, I encourage myself to maintain a respectable appearance and reputation which doing so inspires me to embrace my self-concept; which helps me confidently excel academically and professionally as a “lady of distinction” and “exemplary character.” Most importantly, I continuously remain involved in community service, being involved allows me the opportunity to learn and understand the lives and circumstances of others by opening my mind, heart, and soul. Overall these qualities strengthen my passion to be a member of the prestigious Alp...
The first story I would pitch would be the monument opening today at 10 a.m. at the National Infantry Museum. This is black history month and the Buffalo Soldiers were the first all-black infantry. The monument will be unveiled today. Alpha Phi Alpha’s local chapter Delta Iota Lambda is honoring the heroic group of soldiers. Most of the units served between 1866 and 1951. The event is free and open to the public, which will allow them to witness history. Some of the units were stationed at Fort Benning, which is another local aspect. These soldiers did the impossible, so I can speak to the Master of Ceremonies, as well as local historians, military members, and decedents of those brave men who will be at the unveiling. The visuals could start with the American flag as an open. If the
Why I desire to be an Alpha man? The answer to that question answered in its entirety would far exceed the three page limit allotted for this essay. In the Army we are taught to K.I.S.S things meaning, keep it simple. The mission statement of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is to develop leaders, promote brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities. This mission statement embodies the backbone principles of why I desire to be an Alpha man.
The English Honor Society appeals to me in many ways due to the presented opportunity of meeting new people, helping others while advancing my skills in the English language, and reviewing the subject of English Language Arts altogether. I am very intrigued by many of the mentioned ‘activities’ during the introduction meeting. I enjoy watching plays and musicals that relate to both historical and modern literature; they help to give different interpretations of the main themes and ideas found throughout it and also aid the audience to understand and comprehend ambiguous details. I love children and would be ecstatic to respond to their letters to ‘Santa’ as an ‘elf’. I also want to refine my skills that are English-related (such as writing
As the end of spring semester of my freshman year approached, I was overcome with both joy and relief knowing that soon I would be done with finals and, more importantly, I would soon be completing my slightly long and extremely dry initiation process and finally be allowed to called myself a sister of Sigma Delta Tau. Even though I was beyond excited to become a sister, I couldn’t help but feel weird about the entire situation. Up until the day I decided to rush, I never in a million years would’ve thought that I, of all people, would join a sorority. Even though I had come to terms with the fact that I was in fact meant to be a sorority girl, I was still unsure of how to tell my friends and family back home that I was a sister. In high school, I’d always
If I am chosen as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I will work hard to uphold the reputation and exceed the standards that those before me have set. I believe becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. means joining a group of highly educated women that together I believe are capable of facilitating the type of change that is imperative in today’s society. It is my hope that I will be accepted as a member and be afforded the opportunity to take part in that change. I look forward to hearing from you regarding my request to join your
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated has a legacy that dates back over one hundred years. One hundred years of service, fortitude, and pride. Overcoming adversity and strengthening communities through service. Courage, heroism, and involvement are characteristics that exude from the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated leadership skills that change mind, and body. My interest in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated stem from observation of the Sorority, I have witnessed on and off campus the time that the sorority have put into service and the uplifting of the community, and individuals.
Colleges and Universities play a major role in developing the behavioral patterns of young adults. In addition to developing young minds, colleges help to cultivate character, responsibility, and social acceptable behavior. Students who attend Carlford have expressed their dissent with the current environment of the university. Because of these underling issues, Carlford’s retention rates amongst minorities have suffered. If Kirsten is unable to handle the situation, there will be a trickledown effect to all areas of the university. Being a new professional in the field of Higher Education can be challenge. There are times where an incident directly affects your position and there are other times where there issues that affect the entire institution. Because the issue directly pertains to Greek Life, the Coordinator of Fraternities and Sororities has the responsibility of identifying the concerns and implementing initiatives that will allow the college to be proactive in future situations of this nature.
According to former American Businessman, Henry Ford, he describes working as a team as, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” When working with a group there will always be struggles and roadblocks that could lead your group to any form of success. However, it takes a successful group leader who is able to keep the group working together to reach the common goal as working as one. This paper will demonstrate the integration and understanding of group dynamics and structure. I have selected the Delta Alpha Pi Honor Society to discuss the following five main principles in each group: the purpose of the group, the individuals and their roles of the group, the structure and the norms that
Tyler arrives at home from school on a Monday morning. Tyler goes to the kitchen to finish his math homework. Tyler’s mom calls him to her room. Dana asks Tyler to go and get her drugs. Tyler refuses to help his mom buy drugs. After Tyler finishes his math homework, he calls up his friends to hang out. Tyler’s friends are Jim, Tom and Layla. Tyler and his friends go to the park to hang out. Tyler tells his friends about his mom. Tyler’s friends think his mom is insane because she does drugs. They have the right to have the interpretation of Tyler’s mom.
If I were to write a book in the next thirty years and someone happened to flip to page 135 they would find that I would still be talking about my college life since that part of my life would have the most events and the most adventurous times of my life. The page would be discussing the day I proudly joined a sorority and all the emotions I went through that day. The next paragraph would be a sample of what they would find.
How would college campuses be different if there were no sororities nor fraternities? Throughout their lifespan, the media has constantly been negatively portraying fraternities and sororities, from movies like House Bunny, 22 Jump Street, and Legally Blonde. Greek life has been portrayed to the public audience as a group of misfits. The negative portrayal of Greek life exists also at Mississippi State, often in the form of a clear divide between Greek students and their non-affiliated classmates. It seems that most people are either Greek and support the Greek lifestyle or are not affiliated and do not support the lifestyle at all. These organizations have changed since their creation, causing some fraternities and sororities to be suspended
The honors program is well-respected in the community of UC Davis. With only a small percentage of students enrolled in the program, the benefits and assets for the program are a limited resource exclusively for these individuals. Most people see the academic facade of the program without examining the program through a microeconomic viewpoint. A critical way to determine whether the program is efficient is by looking at its supply and demand, opportunity cost, and benefits.
