When I read the question asking what our moral purpose is, I thought “oh this is easy” and I began to type. As I continued typing I realized, besides a love for learning I truly do not know what my moral purpose is and how exactly it reveals itself in my relationships and dealing with people. I have just recently accepted my first administrative position and to be honest, I feel very uncomfortable when I go to work. After many hours of writing thoughts that seemed to have no coherent progression, I sought the aid of the internet. I read dozens of documents relating to personal moral purpose and moral purpose in education. It was after reading these many articles that I realized, my moral purpose has made a major shift in the past two months. Decades ago I had several teachers that showed me how powerful learning and education can be. Upon entering the education field that was all I wanted to do, inspire kids to learn, especially science. I am not sure I ever sat and pondered my moral purpose, I just knew, like most teachers, that I like working with kids and …show more content…
While developing thinking skills is still and aspect of my moral purpose I have added a layer to my purpose; to model the personal and professional skills necessary to teach the students of my district. This purpose is multi-faceted as I hope to treat all students fairly, showing no bias but equity and justice. I hope to display a sense of community supporting the school, district and surrounding communities’ morals and expectations. In short my moral purpose is to teach a strong commitment to the education of our students, parents and other stakeholders while making a positive difference in all the lives I am fortunate enough to come into contact with. Ultimately, my moral purpose is to improve our school system making it more just and equitable providing a safe, education for all
Some people have goals and these will be achieved when they mix together education and morality in their lives. Success is the way in which people reach their goals toward something specific they hope in their lives. Both Freire and Nietzsche fit with my idea of success because they talk about Education and Morality as Anti-Nature and these two govern my life to achieve my dreams. Freire in his article “The ‘Banking’ Concept of Education” says that we need to express our ideas and not only absorb what teachers say because we lose the ability of thinking. We are human beings with the capacity to use our voices regardless of whether it is right or wrong. Nietzsche in his article “Morality as Anti-Nature” states that church enforces morality to
My goal is to teach these children that they can have self-esteem, skills to excel in school and have the confidence they need to succeed in life. Some students do not learn the same way as their peers. We have to modify and try to explain things to them that they can understand and comprehend. Since I have been a teacher's aide these few years, I have come to understand why some children struggle. I am determined to make sure that anytime I got to work with students that I would be there for them and let them know that I care
Personally, being an educator gives me a chance to have a great impact on the world. I have always enjoyed seeing the look on someone’s face when they make a new connection or learn something. I have many strong beliefs in the education process and many times feel that the needs of the student are overlooked. As a teacher, the students would be priority and that is the backbone of my teaching philosophy. I know that I am not very experienced and have much to learn. This I will strive to do throughout my education and even when I enter the teacher workforce.
In conclusion, the ideas presented here are an overview of my personal beliefs regarding education. I expect that experience may cause me to add to, delete or otherwise alter some of these views. It is my desire to continue to learn from my instructors, peers and ultimately my students so that I may become a well-rounded and effective educator. Someday soon, I would like to be able to describe my classroom as community of learners, having produced good citizens as well as educated individuals.
Each year, as a new group of students enter my classroom, I will encourage them to be expressive of their imaginations in their favorite subjects, whether it be art, literature, math or music. We all have rules and regulations to follow, and each student will know that there is no exception in the school or the classroom. Another goal in my classroom will be to keep the students excited about learning, not to treat school as a game or a social event, but to encourage a unique and fun atmosphere to learn. My educational ethics toward each student will be to emphasise that everyone is an individual, they are all special and unique in their own way, and that every student does not learn on the same level. I hope my students will treat each other the way they want to be treated, and respect those that may be less fortunate.
My goal as a teacher is to provide children with a rich environment where they feel safe to explore, initiate learning, and feel free to express their feelings. My personal philosophy is to respect all children and their families’ cultures, ethnicities, race, and beliefs. I treat each child fairly to ensure that all children feel equally special, have families, communities, and educators work as one.
Why be moral? This is a question that I’ve asked myself for many weeks since the beginning of this class. I wanted to know why is being moral so important to some people myself included. This also lead me to another question, which is why is it easier for some people and harder for others to be moral? First, let 's understand what it is to be moral. One definition of moral is concerned with the principles of right and wrong behavior and the goodness or badness of human character. Another definition is a person 's standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do. From both of these definitions, we get that being moral concerns right and wrong and being able to differentiation from both of those and having your actions reflect what you believe is right and wrong.
The purpose of education has had very little change since the beginning of schooling, also education systems today in the United States have a purpose that provides little to no benefits to children. The purpose has evolved into preparing students to test, test, and test. Instead of providing students with opportunities to grow and find their passion(s), students are expected to learn a great load of material in a short time frame. With these methods and purposes, we are failing the children and ourselves. At some point, we must draw the line and realize this system is failing and it needs reconstruction.
I have not always wanted to be a teacher. I always knew that I wanted to work with children in some way, but I was pretty sure that teaching was not for me. I was well on my way in my junior year of college working toward a biology degree so that I could become a pediatric physician’s assistant. I still cannot explain what happened, but one week I was a biology major, and the next I knew that I have always been meant to teach children. I suppose I just took the longer route to get there than most people do. The two main reasons that I have chosen to become a teacher is that I believe that teaching is extremely personally rewarding in many ways and the fact that I can actively make a difference in someone’s life.
As we reminisce and reflect back either on our childhood or academic career, we tend to have that one teacher who was memorable to us in some way - for their sense of humor, their stellar personality, or perhaps having that charisma and charm no other teacher had to make a difficult subject and it 's concepts fun to learn. While knowledge is power, I firmly believe that it is rather the exchange and distribution of knowledge that is power. When one can educate the masses there is no doubt that together we can accomplish great things. Becoming a teacher would mean the opportunity to be able to witness the shaping and molding of the minds of the future generations and the satisfaction knowing that you have helped your students set themselves onto the right path and provide guidance towards the creation of a better tomorrow. Choosing to become a teacher will allow me not only to educate my students, but also educate myself to be a better teacher throughout my career. I believe it is a function of human nature to want to change the world for the better. In adulthood, I have learned that the improvement of the welfare of the world must begin with
My core educational values define what I believe is necessary tools students need to be successful. Such values are provided by the community of people (educators, parents, business partners) who touch the students’ lives. I value knowledge because without awareness of specific content, students are not able to truly feel a part of society. I value development of skills in order for students to apply their knowledge. When skills are applied, students demonstrate their knowledge and ability to function in our current world. I value critical thinking in our students so they can extend their knowledge and skills to solve complex problems benefitting our present and future. I value citizenship and feel that education has a responsibility to model and nurture character qualities in our students. Educating students is raising them equipped with tools that will enable them to function as contributing participants in a productive society. Knowledge, skills, critical thinking, and citizenship are educational values at the core of developing a student ready for the world’s challenges.
There have been many factors that have inspired me to this career choice. Watching my teachers, both past and present, has inspired me to become a teacher. I have a genuine interest in lifelong learning and as such I have the desire to not only instil knowledge and values to others, but also encourage them to share my passion for learning. Social Justice and leadership roles at school, along with my extra-curricular involvement with Cowra Youth Council, have highlighted my ability to work with and for the benefit of young people. In essence I know that my abilities and aspirations will make me a good teacher.
character education where ‘universal values’ are targeted, it also relies heavily on the opinion of an individual teacher (Noel, 1997).
The purpose of education is to teach the basics of knowledge and to challenge each individual to learn. The realization that I will have the power to make a difference in a child’s life is sometimes overwhelming. This remarkable fact gives me a stronger purpose – to be a positive role model for my students. Being an effective teacher is truly an awesome responsibility.
Students need to be inspired to think critically. By this they comprehend what has been learned and be able to use it. I hope my students will be able to achieve their greatest potential that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. We can give our children these building blocks thru education to use in decision making situations, moral value of their thoughts and actions. This will guide them to realize how their actions and decisions will affect themselves and others.
