Students new to college are often overwhelmed by their newfound freedom to make almost unlimited choices. Too many college students are unsuccessful as a result of bad choices. College can be fun times, new friends and new experiences. However, it can quickly go downhill if you do not have the right idea of what you are getting yourself into. Follow these simple tips on scheduling, budgeting, social life, and stressing about assignments to help yourself become more successful as a student.
One new freedom in college is that you get to design your own schedule. You might be tempted to take certain classes at certain times because of friends and such; however, it is important that you make sure that you take your time while creating it and do what suits you best. If you are not a morning person do not schedule yourself an 8 am class, and if you like to go to bed early, night classes might not be the best option for you. Also, try and only schedule classes that are designed to fit your major. During the first semester, you will have to learn pretty quickly how to balance and prioritize things. I am a very shy person so I kept to myself in the beginning. After a few weeks into the class, everyone started opening up more to each other. We learned that by communicating with each other we could help each other out by explaining and showing things to each other and also by forming study groups. No, we did not cheat, we simply used our resources and contacts wisely. Do not be afraid to open up and get involved. Join a club, a sports group, a sorority or fraternity. All of those are great opportunities to meet new people and make new friends. However, do not forget about old friends and your family back home and make sure to keep in
