There has been many sacrifices that have been done throughout my high school years. High school brought so much stress into my life due to all the work that must be completed. Good grades aren’t just given to the student, but must be earned. If a person doesn’t struggle to be successful, that person didn’t give it their all. For example, in the article Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer, it states “Weathers countered that his vision was likely to improve as soon as the sun crept higher in the sky.” Weathers struggled summiting, but he never gave up on what he wanted to accomplish. in which makes me push even harder. This is significant because I have been achieving success and maintaining good grade which motivates me to keep pushing no matter what struggles I face. I have been self-reliant facing my own struggles and finding a way to deal with them. I have learned to not rely on others, but yourself because you won’t always have others in your life. A person must learn to focus on becoming successful by your own and not depend on someone else. For einstance, “Sitting out in the storm, with the ice bulge still standing between me and the tents, I felt a pang of envy. I was angry that my guide hadn’t waited for me ,” (Krakauer 225). In this article, they were all relying on the sherpa to guide them through the mountain, but soon they were left behind. A person should be relying on others because that person won’t always be with you. It’s the same in my position. I shouldn't be relying on other students because those student won’t always be there for me in the future. I will be self- reliant in the future by only relying on myself and be successful in life by struggling on my own. I will not use other people's knowledge. High school has made me realize that I am ready to become that member of society.
Being able to achieve success in high school has driven me to move on and continue making good decisions to better myself. Another reason i have moved on to make better decisions to better myself is my family. Family is the most important thing in my life and making them proud is my number one priority. “Girlish and reserved, the 47-year-old Namba was 40 minutes away from becoming the oldest woman to climb Everest and the second Japanese woman to reach the highest point on each continent…” (Krakauer 222). Namba reaching her goal motivated her to keep pushing. This relates to high school because if you see a positive outcome, it also motivates you to keep going. Life in high school can be extremely hard, but giving up shouldn’t be an option. A person must do everything possible to be someone in life and win as much as possible. In Exploiting The Sherpas by Billie Mandelbaum it states, “ In Nepal, where the average person makes less than $700 each year…” (1). A sherpa takes many risks in order to earn more money in which it also relates to struggles in high school to earn what you desire. Struggles must be faced in order to realize what must be done in order to reach
success.
Growing up, my parents never expected perfection but expected that I try to accomplish my best. The effort I’ve put forth in learning has been reflected in my grades throughout my high school career. I’ve entered myself in vigorous course work such as AP Government and AP English to become well prepared for my college career, all while maintaining a 4.4 grade point average this year. Not only do I engage in AP classes, but up until this year I had no study halls. I wanted my day to be packed full of interesting classes that I would enjoy learning about. My grades and choice of classes prove the effort that I put forth in my learning. Working hard now can only pay off in the future. Learning now creates a well-rounded human being. Working to learn is why I am so dedicated to my studies now.
All success is self driven by what one wants to achieve. The argument, “should parents and teachers push high school students to attend college?” has came upon many people. Pushing students to go to college is not a good idea. There is no need to push anyone to do something when they have a choice not to. The first reason is it ruins the risk for a student to find their true life passion. Second, most students do not finish all the way through college. Third, college is simply not for everyone, so it should not be pushed so hard.
Students come across many complications during their school career. Some students are actually smart but just don’t apply themselves, or even have hardships that are going on in their lives. These can be fixed if you can find motivation and confidence. In the story “Zero,” Paul Logan coasts through high school and college. Logan doesn’t know the tools to succeed in school, which causes his grades to fall. In the story “The Jacket,” Gary Soto explains how the way you dress influences how you feel about yourself. Which in this case him getting an ugly jacket; which causes him to be depressed and his grades to fall. Albeit Logan and Soto went through similar hardships, they both succeed with motivation and confidence.
High school students don’t know how they can succeed in school and improve their academic performance. A student in high school with unexceptionally easy courses could glide through high school with very limited effort involved and receiving mediocre results. The student receives low grades since they are not required or expected to exceed above any standards set by the administration. When that student graduates high school and begins their college career or applies for jobs, they are vacuous and struggle since they only took the easy route throughout their early life and was never prepared. Unfortunately, most students end up in that predicament of not being prepared for their future struggles and fail to succeed since there was never any
Encouragement plays a significant role in my success. Without encouragement, the achievement won't come true. Juliet Ferking, the author of "A Drive to Achieve the Extraordinary" from This I Believe: Life Lessons, tells her story about how she succeeds at things that normal people don't. No matter what people say, she achieved big things in her life. Her only encouragement are those who actually supported her (Ferking). My connection to Ferking's essay is that without the encouragement that my family and friends are giving me, I wouldn't have the motivation to pursue my degree to have a good career. Even if other people ridicule my choice of degree, I won't succumb to their words.
I have to work hard to get where I want to be in life. I identify that I did not want to settle with just being a high school graduate and wanted to do something additional with my life. Although I motivate myself, my family and friends also motivate me as well. I want my parents to be proud of my accomplishments and how far I have come to reach the goals I set for myself. My sister and brother motivate me to be the best role model I can for them.

This is relevant because it is hard for students to want to play sports but also to do well in school. If high school students can’t find the time to keep their grades up or to keep a certain GPA, they should not be allowed to play sports. Students need to prove themselves to be able to play any sport and still be able to do well in school. Also, having good grades shows the coach maturity and may earn them more playing time if they are working hard in school and in practice.
During my years in high school, I have learned many valuable lessons. I’m proud of the person I am becoming. Life has not been easy, but thankfully I’m a strong hard worker. I started high school with a high GPA, and never intended for it to drop throughout my years. Within the last three years, I’ve moved around, participated in sports, and got a job.
I always try my hardest in every subject. I take the responsibility of my classes extremely seriously because I consider schoolwork to be my top priority. I also have made the honor roll multiple times. I believe that all my hard work and dedication has paid off as I am nominated for the National Honors Society. Along with responsibility of school, I also have the responsibility of fulfilling my parent’s dreams. I have seen my parents work hard their entire life so they could to make my future better. Their dream is to see me becomes a doctor one day. Ever since high school started, I put forth my best effort to succeed in the future and hopefully make their dream come true. The responsibilities given to me by my teachers and parents have pushed me to keep on working and get things done on time. As I live up to more and more my responsibilities and promises, I have gained the trust of my parents, teacher, and friends. Many of my goals have been met through my hard work and dedication through my mother's constant pressure to do well in school. To give a clear example of what I mean, there was the time that I got Principal's Honor Roll. In order to get Principal’s Honor Roll I had to work very hard and maintain a G.P.A of 4.0 or above with no U’s or fails. Many times, I had to sacrifice going to parties, hanging out with friends to do my homework just to study for a test. Many times, I had to stay up very late to finish an assignment or study. My hard work allowed me to meet my goal of getting Honor Roll. If I didn’t work hard and dedicated myself into pursuing to get Principal’s Honor Roll I would have probably never got it. This has impacted me in a very positive way because I know that in order to obtain what I want I have to work hard, dedicate myself, and commit myself to that goal. My grades are another great example of my hard work and dedication. If I didn’t work hard to obtain all A’s , I would have probably never have got a 4.0 G.P.A. in my report card and would not get the Principal’s Honor Roll award. This honestly strikes me hard to the core as this is a pretty hard concept for a high school student like myself to strive to achieve. High schoolers already have the pressure of that next frontier; college, jobs, or other opportunities where they are then expected to reach the next destination relatively on their own as they have to suddenly become adults. This frightens me, to be honest, as I’m afraid of how I could possibly fail and how others (i.e. family and friends) might be disappointed in me if I do. Being a successful student and achieving continued academic success is fundamental in order to complete an associate degree and become a successful professional. College is challenging, but it can be a rewarding growth experience and easier when setting up goals. Having educational and career goals helps students keep the focus and motivation. Besides, having knowledge of different learning styles can help students learn about themselves and increase efficiency while studying. Writing skills learned in college are also a powerful tool for both academic and career success. The campus is a great place to find tools to succeed and achieve continued academic success. I have 3 wonderful toddler boys who are getting to the age to start school. I feel like me being overall successful in school will show them that nothing is impossible. I also believe that they will overall be more successful throughout their schooling seeing that I was. For instance, I feel like if one of my children calls and say “I don’t want to do college anymore,” without finishing myself I cannot say “No you have to stay.” My other motivation is my aunt whom passed away from Triple Negative Breast Cancer. As I started to advance into my high school education, I noticed that my attitude about school and grades was not going to get me anywhere.
