The path to success
There are several qualities to have to be successful in college. These qualities can range from attending class to going above and beyond what’s expected. Success comes from the journey taken or the path chosen. Success also comes from being prepared. As a student, I must step up to the challenge and find the path to success along the way. Several ways I define success is to uphold academic integrity, have the ability to prioritize, and to motivate myself to stay on top of what needs to be accomplished.
Academic integrity holds a great deal of weight. This includes honesty in the work produced, as well as being able to accomplish the work. Responsibility in addition plays important factor into integrity. I see responsibility as owning up to what has to be done and getting done. If I have an assignment due, I need to have that obligation completed by the set due date. Trust also helps with this. As a freshman, I have to trust that my professors will give the right amount of time to do assignments, and in return I must do the work I’m capable of.

Integrity to me means going above and beyond with everything I do. I think this will fuel good grades and completion of assignments. Having good integrity also came with some confidence, because I had to do more and go outside of the crowd. I did and do more than everyone else, that made me fell a lot more confident about my actions. Confidence has pushed me to make suggestions that I otherwise wouldn't.
A successful student is always prepared for any planned event which he or she is attending. I think I exemplified this whenever I went to clinicals, because I believe one is not able to have a successful
In “Choosing Success in College and Life”, Carol Kanar exposes students to the foundational skills that they will need to develop in order to be successful in the college setting. Effective interpersonal skills and understanding that people are the biggest resource can be two of the biggest factors in how a student assimilates to campus life. Students can be intimidated by all of the offices and professional titles that surround them when entering this new surrounding. It is important that students understand that their desire to succeed is met by college professionals’ mutual desire to see the same. The blueprint for this success should first begin with the students’ inner belief in themselves. Second, the student should familiarize themselves with all that the college has to offer by way of various supportive offices, support groups, and clubs. Finally, the students should begin to set scholastic, life, and financial goals for themselves.
To give my personal philosophy of success I would first have to define “success”. Success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. My success philosophy that I plan on implementing from now on is accepting personal responsibility for the good and bad choices I make. There will be time when I need to focus on school and worry less about my free time. If I have a test to take I have to study for that test to get a good grade and continuous good grades will help me pass the course. I can’t depend on anyone else to do my work for me I’m personally responsible for completing my assignments and turning them in on time. When the weekend comes around and all I do is procrastinate by telling myself I’ll study later. The smart thing to do about this situation would be to think wise and use my time-management strategies. I’ll always have time for myself, so sacrificing some free time now is well worth it. This helps me to be a creator and not the victim about things and keeping up with the self-management strategy. The success strategies that I will use will help my learning style, self-management and self-responsibility. Most people believe success is just having lots of money, cars, and women but I believe success is an individual sport and I have to be ready to play because the outcome of my performance is based on the work I put into it.
In public, integrity plays a very important role since people who have integrity hold firmly to their views, which support them to act properly in academic, personal and professional circumstances. In the academic community, students of integrity will notice academic standards severely, exchange ideas freely and improve the social acknowledgment of the value of their institutions. In personal conditions, integrity leads individuals to understand who they really are, thus they can be honest to their benefits and ideal life. In the workplace, truth enhances personal commitment to the code of ethics set forth by the profession. Additionally, integrity begins mutual beneficial personal relationships in a community, helps people develop a sense of reliability and responsibility, and fosters their professional competencies. In a word, the more people have integrity in a community, the more efficiency and efficiency we can have, and the more happiness and trust we can enjoy.
In the article “Success Will Come and Go, But Integrity is Forever” by Amy Rees Anderson, Amy gives her definition of integrity and includes experiences she has witnessed as an entrepreneur and counselor. Amy’s definition of integrity is “doing the right thing at all times and in all circumstances, whether or not anyone is watching.” This is the best way to explain integrity; just as I have experienced recently in my Business Law class. During a test, there was no supervision and a lot of students put aside their integrity and put themselves and others in a difficult situation. The author goes on to say that “It takes having the courage to do the right thing, no matter what the consequences will be.” The majority of the students who did cheated confessed to their faults. It takes a long time to build integrity, especially in educational setting like college. Most classes last around 5 months each semester and according to Amy, integrity takes years to build. Within one class, the class integrity was lost and I’m sure there is no real trust between the professor and student. If someone cheats once, it’s very possible that they will cheat again. Even ...
More and more students are showing bad academic integrity for numerous reasons. To put a stop to this, I believe that teachers and parents should make a bigger deal about being honest in their work, rather than pressuring students to end up on top. Students need to learn how to take pride in their own work. They need to realize that being honest in your achievements is much more rewarding than achieving something higher, but cheating your way through
Homework is an important aspect in life, and it is used in a multitude of countries. Most of the teachers assign homework on a daily basis, and some only assign homework when it seems to be necessary. Some teachers also make homework as a part of your overall grade, and some teachers rely on their students to put in a total effort. Homework plays an important impact because it is the means of success, and it will determine how prepared you are for any upcoming assessments. Homework is also quality practice and enables the student to succeed more. Homework is more than extra practice. It is an essential resource that teaches students how to be organized and develop good time management skills as well.
Academic Integrity is a academic code meaning that students must show honesty and responsibility towards their own academic work. The negative side of academic integrity would be the opposite of honesty like plagiarism, cheating on tests and assignments, and being generally dishonest about your academic success. But those are just some examples of academic dishonesty. No matter what assignments or tests students do; they must be assiduous in honesty.
Academic integrity has been a major concern among many colleges and universities across the world. Many people may ask the question: what is academic integrity? University of Missouri’s Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (n.d.) states, “Academic integrity is the core set of values and principles that underwrites the very mission of the University itself; integrity, honesty, hard work, and the determination to translate personal and professional principles into behavior.” Some also may view academic integrity as the act of sustaining honest and rightful behavior in an academic setting that avoids, prevent and provide disciplinary actions for those who commits academic dishonesty, plagiarism and cheating of any kind. Majority of college and universities in all disciplines has academic ethics and honesty policies for all students regardless of their academic statues as undergraduate or graduate students. For example, Webster University’s Statement of Ethics (n.d.) for both graduate and undergraduate programs says, “Those who elect to partici...
Without academic integrity, learning can never be assured. Honesty is not fixated, and changes by situation. Everyone should strive for academic honesty or integrity. By trying your hardest and receiving what you deserve, you will go farther than anyone else in life.
In conclusion, There are many things you will need to change and learn about yourself to be a success in college and taking accountability for all that happens while in college, will teach you growth and maturity. Relying on these positive techniques will allow you to accomplish not only being a great student but giving you the tools and exposure to be the best employee after obtaining your dream degree. I believe that most students may be successful in college and that the measure of handwork, devotion, and dedication are the features that divides the students who are effective from the students who are not. We may not all be effective at everything, yet don't work against yourself and at any rate try it out.
Michael Jordan once said, “I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I have been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed” (BrainyQuote). To be successful means to complete a goal or task at hand. Many people want success but do not know how to achieve it. In his book Outliers: The Story of Success, Malcolm Gladwell writes “To become a chess grandmaster also seems to take about ten years…And what’s ten years? Well, it’s roughly how long it takes to put in ten thousand hours of hard practice. Ten thousand hours is the magic number of greatness.” (Gladwell 41). Gladwell is right that Ten thousand hours is the magic number because to achieve mastery in a certain skill it cannot happen overnight. The “Ten Thousand Hour” rule is the formula for success in achieving mastery of a skill because it integrates practice, talent, and most of all opportunity.
In conclusion, integrity is a vital part of all our lives. Without a basic human integrity, we are animals. Integrity defines how we live, and who we are. Are we good people? Is our neighborhood safe? Is our college a great place to live? When trying to answer these questions, you first look at the integrity. In life and in death, a man will always be defined by his integrity. Is this neighborhood safe for me to my family to? Is this college a good one to send my child to? These questions are constantly being asked, and the answer always lies in integrity.
Academic Integrity is very important and it defines how we are as a person academically and shows other people how we work out problems. The definition of academic integrity is when “all work and all grades should result from the student’s own understanding and effort” and has a very understandable meaning. I feel like a lot of people can relate to and follow this meaning as a good motivation during school to not cheat or steal. Most colleges have different policies on academic integrity and they all have different rules but all follow the same code/meaning.
