The Controversy Of Competitive Sports

There has been a lot of controversy around the topic of competitive sports. Could you imagine kids not being able to play competitive sports, never going to your kids soccer or basketball games because they aren't allowed to play. Some might say that the are bad or harmful. However, competitive sports are beneficial for three main reasons, they are good for the athletes health, they are good for the athletes future, and they teach kids valuable things. One main reason that I think competitive sports are beneficial is because it’s good for the athletes health. An example of this is it keeps people fit (Stenson). A way it keeps athletes fit is it burns calories. Competitive sports also prevents obesity (Davis). Obesity is a huge problem in our country and if kids get into playing sports and having fun outside our obesity level will end up going down. One main reason I think this is because it teaches how to set goals a young age (Mango). Setting goals is huge for everyone's future. For example, setting goals is important for a job or for school, setting these goals will help you meet places you want to end up. I also think this because it helps kids make friendships with most likely some people outside of their school (Mango). I know this because I play a year up in soccer and I know that it’s nice having friendships with people the grade above you. An example of this would be, going into middle school or even high school knowing those people are there for you is really nice. Going into 7th grade I was really worried but they talked me through it telling me things like, “It’s not that bad” or “Don’t worry you will do great” hearing those things from my teammates was really great. I also think that it's good for the future because it can help kids get a mindset for success (Mango). Which is a really good thing to have growing
