There has been a huge debate over competitive sports being beneficial or not. Some believe competitive sports are harmful. I believe competitive sports are beneficial because it helps with the physical appearance, it drives us to learn at a faster rate and perform at a higher level, and lastly it helps with cooperation and teamwork. These are some of the many reasons why competitive sports are beneficial.
My first reason I have is it helps with physical appearance. According to the article The Benefits of Competitive Athletic Sports Participation in Today's Sports Climate is “As a physical educator it is impossible to cover the benefits gained from sports participation without mentioning the fitness improvements” (Mango.) This shows that as a physical educator who has been coaching, have seen many improvements. He has seen many kids do it.Also another quote from the same article is “In a society where obesity has become a major health issue the physical fitness advantages simply cannot be denied.” (Mango) I was thinking about this, and if kids who have obesity problems play multiple sports

One example from the article “When the meet is on the horizon, we work harder and faster.“ “When we are playing a game we push a little harder. In doing so we surprise ourselves of what we are capable of accomplishing.” When we play sports we always surprise ourselves when we do play because we usually don't know how strong and how encouraged we get.The last quote that I have for this reason is from the same article “Their level of perseverance and determination will be tested. The hope here is that they become stronger within over time.” This is showing that playing a sport is driving us to work harder because no one likes to lose. Sports help them stay in shape because, the Aspen Institute, a nonprofit organization that does humanistic studies, said, “Exercise is one of the least expensive ways to stay healthy, with one study finding that exercise can prevent chronic diseases as effectively as medication,” (Aspen Institute). One of the many benefits of playing sports is that the children will build character. Building character is important because with character they will make new friends and develop different skills. Playing sports at a young age can build character in many ways, “Playing sports at a young age enables children to participate in social interactions and build skills such as teamwork, leadership, and responsibility as they learn to work with others to achieve a common goal,” (Aspen Institute).
In the book entitled A Sociological Perspective of Sports, Wilbert Marcellus Leonard II says, “Many of us have strong opinions as to the value of competitive sports. Some of our beliefs are based on personal experiences, others are not” (219). I have my own strong opinions about the value of sports, most of which are based on personal experiences. I have been surrounded by, and involved in, competitive level sports my entire life.
It will encourage students to try their best to accomplish superior grades. It opens their eyes in a different perspective on behavior as well as stronger scholastic peer relationships. It gives students activities excluding school work, because teenagers generally focus their mind on unacceptable actions. Parents commonly show passion along with appreciation when their child/children play a sport. They get to have a closer relationship and be elaborate with them more often than normal. Frequently, students do not care about their reputation or acknowledge the adults’ opinions on themselves; but in my opinion, playing sports and being mostly involved with their schools presents an improved character while in school and once they graduate. I was once told that “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” Additionally, self-esteem in high school is hard to come by, occasionally sports help! Sports cause you to interact with other people and uplift you to do better. It presents a sharpened perspective on your schoolwork, career, future, and life altogether. In some cases, playing a sport can benefit you in an enhanced form. Scholarships can be a broad opportunity for valuable players with a good education on their shoulders. As well as, college recruitment can be another option. Money is hard to come by for college and if that seems to be a struggle for a student playing a sport can help tremendously. That
Teaching kids to be leaders in today’s world is a hard task that many people have tried to do and have been unsuccessful, but youth sports, on the other hand, have no problem teaching kids these important life skills. Ever since Youth competitive sports existed people have been arguing over whether they are. Youth competitive sports teach kids many important life skills, for example, they teach kids how to work together with other people. Another life lesson that sports teach is leadership skills. Although some people say kids shouldn’t play youth competitive sports because they can get injured, the pros like teaching life skills outweigh the cons by a lot.

This is important because there are things that can be argued about this from both sides. Some people will say that the pressures put on kids from competitive sports is good, and will motivate them, but others believe that it is bad because it can be found in so many places like from parents or coaches, from general stress, and from the pressure to perform.

Could you imagine kids not being able to play competitive sports, never going to your kids soccer or basketball games because they aren't allowed to play. Some might say that the are bad or harmful. The good thing about sports is that, for many, they become an outlet. Athletes can use sports to escape for a while and forget about any problems they may have or take out any aggression they may have built up inside. Of course, sports should not always be aggressive, but also friendly. Those that can best compete with their environment survive. Those who can’t compete die out. Competition is a powerful drive in all humans. We compete as groups, against our selves, and each other. Competitive sports also allow kids to learn a lot of things from the game, make sure they’re fit and healthy, and lastly it makes kids strive and achieve for their goals.
