Controversy Over Competitive Sports

There has been a huge debate over competitive sports being beneficial or not. Some believe competitive sports are harmful. I believe competitive sports are beneficial because it helps with the physical appearance, it drives us to learn at a faster rate and perform at a higher level, and lastly it helps with cooperation and teamwork. These are some of the many reasons why competitive sports are beneficial.
My first reason I have is it helps with physical appearance. According to the article The Benefits of Competitive Athletic Sports Participation in Today's Sports Climate is “As a physical educator it is impossible to cover the benefits gained from sports participation without mentioning the fitness improvements” (Mango.) This shows that as a physical educator who has been coaching, have seen many improvements. He has seen many kids do it.Also another quote from the same article is “In a society where obesity has become a major health issue the physical fitness advantages simply cannot be denied.” (Mango) I was thinking about this, and if kids who have obesity problems play multiple sports …show more content…

One example from the article “When the meet is on the horizon, we work harder and faster.“ “When we are playing a game we push a little harder. In doing so we surprise ourselves of what we are capable of accomplishing.” When we play sports we always surprise ourselves when we do play because we usually don't know how strong and how encouraged we get.The last quote that I have for this reason is from the same article “Their level of perseverance and determination will be tested. The hope here is that they become stronger within over time.” This is showing that playing a sport is driving us to work harder because no one likes to lose.
