When I go to a gymnastics meet and do really good, so I get that 1st place medal or trophy. It feels amazing, I mean the sport gymnastics is competitive and I sure do love competitive sports. The competitiveness gets you that rush of excitement. You feel nervous, but excited to get in there and try your hardest. Kids make better choices and have committed when they have the drawbacks of participating in competitive youth sports. Playing competitive sports affect young people in a good way. They are good because you have that commitment and now its hard to back down. In the "no" section of 'Have Youth Sports Become Too Intense?", it states "Intense training promotes self-confidence, self-discipline, and commitment." Student athletes can agree with all of this because it teaches discipline and a lot of other things. Parents can disagree with my reason, because they don't want their child to go through with intense training. They think it's way too much for the child. So I think parents would love if their children did sports to prevent those things. Some experts say competitive sports have intense training that can get a child hurt.
Now we have advanced protective gear that protects are head all the way to our toes. Helmets that football players use now protect even better, they protect the child from concussion and from permanent head damage. I agree with the point that the focus of sports has shifted just to winning the game as the world has turned into a big rat race where everyone is trying to bring the others down. Research shows that introducing sports at a young age can make a positive impact on a child’s life. Sports gives children a great foundation in life. It teaches them lessons that will help them grow into well rounded adults. Jessica Statsky makes great points throughout her article, “Children Need to Play, Not Compete.” She shows the physical and psychological harms that organized sports can cause to growing children under the age of thirteen. She backs up her ideas with a lot of support and many reliable sources. One may find it easy to agree with Jessica because she took an adamant stand on her subject and because of the amount of support that she shows. One may also like how Statsky backed off of her subject in paragraph 9 to relate to the other side of the argument.

A recent survey done says “Over forty-five million kids participate in organized youth sports, out of those forty-five million eighty percent of them quit by the age of fifteen” (Stankovich 2). It is not likely that these kids quit their sport just because, there must have been a reason like: their coach was working them too hard, their parents were trying to push them to succeed, or the environment just became too intense. It is not fair for these kids to quit because of other people, the only reason they should have to quit is if they just do not like the sport anymore. Another survey of 1,250 high level athletes ages ten through eighteen was done and the result was “Only thirty percent of them actually enjoy their sport” (Matz 5). This survey shows that these thirty percent of kids must have been pushed hard by either a coach or their parents because they are successful athletes that did not quit because they did not enjoy their sport. This survey still proves though that youth sports are becoming too intense because they are causing kids to dislike the sport that they used to

YAY I WE’VE JUST WON THE TOURNAMENT!!! A lot of people think that competitive sports are not beneficial for kids, but I think competitive sports are really beneficial for younger kids. Competitive sports help build a stronger person. Kids can learn a lot about discipline and their academics, they’ll want to learn in school because if they don’t they can get kicked off the team. Also sports at school can help kids stay fit and healthy. This can decrease obesity and kids that are overweight. Competitive sports can help kids with their problem solving skills. Kids won’t back out of a challenge they’ll keep trying to finish it.
Imagine a world where everyone in the league or tournament got a trophy just for participating. People who play sports bond over a common interest. This opens up children to meeting new kids and socializing with many more. In Kindergarten, I played baseball. Even though I did not truly understand all the mechanics of the game, I met new friends and began to develop motor skills. This was very useful starting at an early age and pushed me to stay active throughout my life.
