Should kids play competitive sports? Competitive sports is an activity several people in the world love to do. But, in the recent years competitive sports has become a huge debate on whether kids should play it. Do you think kids should play competitive sports?The claims countering competitive sports are pretty strong but I believe that kids should play competitive sports because it increases physical fitness and teaches people the value of exercise, it doesn’t affect grades and has a positive impact on college, and kids learn life skills they need when they are adults. It has shown that studies isn’t the only thing needed for college and that if you play high level sports, you could get into a great college for Division 1 Athletics. This means that even if your smart, there is no guarantee that you will get into a good college. Sports can get you into any college if you play at a high level and it is very hard to get in. Many kids who don’t have the brains or focus to get into a good college can depend on sports to get into a good college. The next piece of evidence I have is the difficult balance between sports and academics, but it is shown, “competitive sports have a positive effect on grades and that when the season ends, grades drop.”(Lorenc, 2017) For years, parents have assumed that sports makes it hard to focus on studies. In fact, it’s time that people realized that people need sports to keep them focused because no one wants grade drops. So, the balance between sports and studies may be hard, but it does have a good impact on grades. Along with grades competitive sports has a positive effect on the brain and to “raise self-esteem.” (Davis, 2017, pg. 1) In other words, competitive sports gives people self-confidence. People learn to experience the joy of winning and realize that you can’t win everything. As a team, people experience happiness and sorrows that help change people and boost their confidence in themselves.
