By having the characteristics of a leader, Steve always tried to make relationships with employers at work to promote a friendly and pleasant environment. He would willingly come down to the Industrial Design lab to spend constructive time with the designers team and give his opinion and guidance to achieve the best outcome for the company. He would criticize and judge every employee’s contribution to the company and provide them with constructive criticism to help them improve their thinking skills and develop new thoughts and ideas. Jobs had great ambitions for product excellence. He was very particular about elegant design and simplicity. Unlike many other CEOs he specifically focused on the details, especially when it came to the product and how it was sold in the market. He set futuristic goals of hardware and software and encouraged people to strive for more than they dreamed possible. Steve Wozniak made the first prototype, but it was Jobs who “saw the potential” in his computer and persuaded Wozniak to sell it (Peterson 106). Even though that first computer saw very little success, Jobs knew that Apple had potential and so released the Apple II. From the beginning Jobs knew what the consumers wanted, and where computers were going to take the world; he had a vision of the opportunities in technology and saw that Apple needed to move in a different direction. In 1984, one year before he left, Jobs finished the Macintosh computer system. He was pushed from his original computer design project, “the Lisa”, and then raced to release the Mac first, but the Lisa was released to the public first. Although the Lisa came out first, the Mac “[became] synonymous with Apple, mark[ing] a…revolution in…personal computing,” (Peterson 106).
He explains how even though he was at the top of the world at a time, it all was taken away when he was fired from Apple at the age of 30. After contemplating giving up, he realized that technology was his passion and he kept at it. He created NeXT and Pixar which were eventually bought out by Apple giving him his original position back at Apple (Jobs). This turn of events showed that even though he thought he had lost it all, he continued to keep pushing hard for what he believed in because he knew his career was going to be a part of his life for a long time and it turned out for the better. In this section Jobs’ uses a little bit of pathos and ethos because he went through traumatic and depressing times, as well as triumphed and became the CEO of both Pixar and Apple in the end.
