The purpose of writing this essay is to give an idea how these two respected CEOs of multinational companies has changed the world. Technology is booming nowadays, even the minor things that we can do manually are done using technology. Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple computer and Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, has changed the world. These two leaders are best known for their innovations which has taken our world to the next level. Steve and Bill has got something in common. Surprisingly, both of these CEO had never graduated from college, but they are known to be the world most successful leaders and they both work in the same kind of company (Lashinsky, 2013). Nevertheless, their leadership styles differs (Peralta,2011). The way they treat the employees at the workplace is in contrast.
Although Steve and Bill are competitors, there are similarities between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Both of them are the most successful CEO’s in the world. Though they were college dropouts, but they still achieved a lot of success in their own way. Steve was a very innovative man. As the English proverb goes by “ Have no fear of perfection - you will never reach it.” by Salvador Dali. No matter how many times he failed, he could develop things from his own idea and turn them into a successful product. In 1979 Apple’s first product was introduced, people like it very much because of its simplicity and innovative ideas. Later on in year 1980, the company showed a tremendous performance, where its share rose by 32% (Messa, 1998). A Captain of Industry can be defined as an honest business leader who affects others and their community in positive ways through creating jobs, donating money and making their products accessible to many. A Robber Baron on the other hand acquires their wealth through unethical and dishonest ways by exploiting resources and labor. We can all inarguably agree that entrepreneurs like Andrew Carnegie and Steve jobs have made massive impacts within their business professions. From Carnegie working in a factory at age 13 for $1.20 a week to becoming one the wealthiest businessmen in America during the 1800s. Andrew Carnegie is a true testimony to what hard work can achieve. To a more modern man who shares a similar story of success as Carnegie is Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs, a man who wasn't too fond of formal education and often found himself is troubling situations with others soon achieved accomplishments that would change the way we see/use technology today. Yet the question we are left to ask
Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple computers, was influenced by the very same transcendental ideas expressed by Ralph Waldo Emerson, namely self-reliance and determination. Rather than conforming to the accepted path of success, Steve Jobs chose to do things his own way, with determination. He dropped out of college and began only taking classes he found interesting, then he starte...
Steve Jobs and his friend Wozniak started to create their very first computer, and it came out a lot better than what they thought it was going to be. With very little education, the first computer that came out was extraordinary. “It was the first single-board computer with built-in circuitry allowing for direct video interface, along with a central ROM, which allowed it to load programs from an external source” (“Steve P. Jobs”). Without the education that most people get, for someone who dropped out of college, Jobs created such a powerful computer without the knowledge that most people have. Jobs computer that he created along with his friend was so astonishing a second computer came out. “A year later, the Apple II was launched with a simple, compact design like the Apple I, plus a color monitor” (“Steve Paul Jobs”). The first computer that Jobs created was excellent enough to create a second one, which was also a superior computer. Even though Jobs dropped out of college, he was still intelligent enough to create one of the biggest companies in the world. Apple incorporations was going strong until one day the company decided to let Steve Jobs go,...
The CEO has also hired employees with good experience like CIO Dunst from Safeway, and for the supply chain management team, some technology experts from companies like PepsiCo, Dell and even Wal-Mart. This allows the company to be in line with the latest technologies available and demonstrates the future planning undertaken by the CEO.
A boy, adopted by middle class parents, who dropped out of college after six months, decided to begin his own business, and he stated his business on 1 April; April Fool’s Day (Dernback, n.d.). Society would presume that a company with such a colorful beginning would most likely not survive its infancy stage, but that is not the case for this story. In 1976, this company began with three men and one thousand dollars, but it started a movement that would revolutionize the world, Apple Computer was born. By the time Steve Jobs was twenty-five years of age, he was worth over a hundred million dollars (Dernback, n.d.). Jobs not only had an idea, he had a plan that would lead to the success of Apple. Jobs understood that “Marketing is much more
Bill Gates is a genius. He is the founder of Windows and is one of the richest people in the world. He created some of the first computer operating systems and is a pioneer of the technological world. He has created a computing empire and is still working to improve the world. He not only is rich but he also donates a lot to charity.
Michael Cusumano writes an article titled, Technology Strategy and Management the Legacy of Bill Gates, focusing on Gates’ core reasons for developing Microsoft, how he managed his company and collaboration decisions with other companies. Cusumano begins by stating that because Gates is retired, it is safe to evaluate what makes him an ultimate legacy. He continues on by mentioning talents and, organized in steps, the visionary thoughts for Microsoft from Gates. So, from Gates being a pronounced hacker, work positions in the company today, to a short comparison with Apple; Cusumano points out how well Gates has built his company with little to no experience of running a huge technology company.
Steve Jobs was the utmost CEO of all time. In the speech it states, “……… he’s been called a visionary, a creative genius, a rebel, a non-conformist, an original, the greatest CEO ever, the best innovator of all time.” In the article it states, “He was intensely focused when committed, confident enough to take risky leaps, and charismatic enough to enlist legions of employees and customers in the restless pursuit of his aspirations.” Both texts describe the traits of Steve Jobs which made him the greatest CEO of our age. Steve Jobs was an original genius he had a significant and unique imagination. It’s one thing to envision your own company broadening, but it’s another thing to envision that your company’s services and products will change people lives for the better, the way we communicate and work. Jobs built his company thinking that Apple’s products and services would change the
It was Steve Jobs who made Apple leave the garage and make leaps and bounds in the world of technology. Steve Wozniak made the first prototype, but it was Jobs who “saw the potential” in his computer and persuaded Wozniak to sell it (Peterson 106). Even though that first computer saw very little success, Jobs knew that Apple had potential and so released the Apple II. From the beginning Jobs knew what the consumers wanted, and where computers were going to take the world; he had a vision of the opportunities in technology and saw that Apple needed to move in a different direction. In 1984, one year before he left, Jobs finished the Macintosh computer system. He was pushed from his original computer design project, “the Lisa”, and then raced to release the Mac first, but the Lisa was released to the public first. Although the Lisa came out first, the Mac “[became] synonymous with Apple, mark[ing] a…revolution in…personal computing,” (Peterson 106).
Steve Jobs one of the founding fathers of Apple Inc used strategic planning to his advantage by making Apple’s mission a simple one- bringing easy to use computers to the general market, revolutionizing the computer market. In 2007, after thirty years, the organization changed its name from Apple Computer to Apple Inc., this was a significant move because the organization became more independent, and it was no longer known as a vendor to Macintosh personal computer line (Yoffie & Slind, 2008). This strategic move paid off; a year and half later, Apple Inc.’s third quarter net profit of $1.07 billion on a $7.46 billion in revenue (Yoffie & Slind, 2008). SWOT Analysis of Apple, Inc. Bill gates and Warren Buffett are the two most successful people in the United States some might even call them the American folk hero. “Bill Gates has an aggressive, winner-takes-all attitude; he transformed Microsoft, a small niche company, into the most influential company in the computer industry and the world for that matter. He's driven, intelligent and doesn't apologize for the fact
Steve and Bill have their visions, paths and strengths to develop their product and their company. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates apparently walk on a technology path, but they have different vision on developing their products and the future of their companies. According to Steve Jobs, “If you keep your eyes on profit, you are going to skimp on the product, but if you really focus on making really great products, profits will follow” (Inspirational Quote, 2014). On the other hand, Bill Gates said “Microsoft was founded with a vision of computer on every desk in every home” (Beaumont, 2008). Moreover, no matter how the technology has developed yet some people still not value and know much about the benefits and advantages of technology. That’s why Steves and Bill have visions to make people to get to know more about it. According to Telegraph UK, Bill Gates has been being the richest man for the twenty two years of his career. Bill wants to get everyone in the world on internet (Horton, 2015). Despite of that, Jobs was not really passionate about building the computer hardware but his goal is to let people unleash their creativity through his invention (Writer, 2015). Apple and Microsoft keep developing themselves throughout decades. Moreover, Steve and Bill are also having vision in developing the world to be a better place. According to Investopedia, Steve jobs will find more way to create the luxury and easier
We think Steve Jobs was a successful leader because he was imaginative, passionate about his job, he had the ability to push employees to create new things, had confidence, and believed in collaboration. Under Steve Jobs' leadership Apple was an innovative company and under Tim Cook's leadership Apple is now being seen as more of charitable, socially and ethically responsible company. While [he’s heard the repeated refrains that “Apple can’t innovate under Tim,” that the company needed a low-cost iPhone to thwart the progress of Google’s Android, that Cook never could replicate the Jobs magic—and therefore that Apple never again would be “insanely great.” ] (Lashinsky, 2015), he hasn’t changed his methods since Jobs’ passing and continues to lead in a way that he believes will raise Apple’s value in the eyes of society.
So here I present you the path that gave us the Bill Gates we have today. Firstly, Bill Gates was fortunate enough to be born in a fine and educated family, where his parents were an educator and a lawyer. He had the privilege to all the essential necessities, such as clothing, food, and water sources which many other kids do not have. More than that, his family was wealthy enough to buy him toys and games and other things which would be far too extravagant to others. These small things created a stronger foundation for Bill Gates’
During senior year in high school, Jobs signed up for an electronics class taught by John McCollum. While in the class in 1969, Jobs met a man named Steve Wozniak, a former graduate of McCollum’s class. Like Jobs, Wozniak was a huge electronics “geek” and the two instantly bonded (Romain Moisescot).
