Steve Jobs has significantly impacted today’s society and many industries. Steve Jobs was born in February 24th, 1955 in San Francisco California. He was adopted at birth by Paul Jobs (1922 -1993) and Clara Jobs (1924 ` 1986). Jobs went through rocky days in elementary school. Despite his rough time in elementary school, Steve was able to skip couple of grades. Steve enrolled at Reed College in Oregon but he dropped out after six month. Steve studied creative classes, including calligraphy.
In 1976, Steve Jobs founded Apple Computer with his friend Wozniak in the garage of Job’s parents. In 1984, Jobs introduced the Macintosh to the world. It was a very innovative and good product but sales were not strong. Apple’s board wanted to Jobs to step down from his position. In 1985, Steve Jobs founded NeXT Inc. Steve was able to create technologically advanced product but the cost was too high to be successful. Company made first profit after 10 years of operation. In 1997, NeXT Inc was acquired by Apple Inc. In 1986, Jobs bought The Graphics Group. In 1995, the first film, Toy Story, came out. It was a big success and Pixar became one of the biggest animations producing company in the market. Jobs had opportunity to return to Apple, after Apple decided to purchase NeXT Inc. After Jobs returned to Apple, He started to invent new product. iMac was introduced to market and Jobs became permanent CEO of Apple. Apple started to expand their expertise under Jobs guidance. Steve jobs was always passionate about creating the most innovative and the best product for people. These decisions often put his company and his career in danger but he did not want to change his mind. He was responsible about his decision and always delivers his promises. Lastly and the most importantly, Steve Jobs never give up from challenges. He knew that he is able to accomplish as long as he does not give up. He encountered many different problems and obstacles. He did not give up. Not only he did not give up but he remained himself. He truly believed that his decision and passion is not wrong. Even the death was not enough to stop Steve Jobs passion. Without his courage and stubbornness, we would not be able to enjoy iPhone or iPad today.
Steve developed innovations and inventions in technology that were meant to benefit the people. He wanted to make technology accessible to everyone, so he made his tech smaller and cheaper. In addition to creating technology that helps us in more ways than one, is that he also donated large sums of his own money to charities. Jobs was a very private person and never mentioned philanthropic duties in the media (which lead to many criticising him) but did in fact donate $50 million to Stanford hospitals in California and funded HIV and AIDS research.

Steve Wozniak made the first prototype, but it was Jobs who “saw the potential” in his computer and persuaded Wozniak to sell it (Peterson 106). Even though that first computer saw very little success, Jobs knew that Apple had potential and so released the Apple II. From the beginning Jobs knew what the consumers wanted, and where computers were going to take the world; he had a vision of the opportunities in technology and saw that Apple needed to move in a different direction. In 1984, one year before he left, Jobs finished the Macintosh computer system. He was pushed from his original computer design project, “the Lisa”, and then raced to release the Mac first, but the Lisa was released to the public first. Although the Lisa came out first, the Mac “[became] synonymous with Apple, mark[ing] a…revolution in…personal computing,” (Peterson 106).

This book discussed what can be learned as a leader and the lessons are relevant to my own leadership style. There is a direct relationship of the lessons and Steve Jobs’ leadership style identified including wait for nothing, fail big or don’t bother failing, limit your confidence to your field, there’s no substitute for passion, consider your legacy before you have one, and there’s always ‘one more thing’ (Essany, 2012). The lessons illustrated that Steve Jobs was progressive in his thinking and relentless to develop technological advancements that consumers could not live without. Therefore, Steve Jobs leadership style was influential and other entrepreneurs need to utilize these lessons in pursuit of similar success.
