Sport Coaching as a ‘blended profession’
A blended professional is one who is characterized both from an academic domain, as well as a professional domain. They are often creating new ideas, teaching and learning simultaneously, progressing their knowledge and ethics. Some work in a professional manner and may not be getting paid to do work that is equivalent to a person with a paid profession.
Sport coaching has been questioned by many, as to whether it is a profession or not. This is due to its social significance of being paid part-time, full-time or coaches being volunteers and not paid.

Many coaches have been involved in coaching, but not receiving a qualification. Each coach has a different journey, therefore in the Long-Term Coach Development program, a point has to be made that coaches experience coaching differently all the time. The document made is to initiate a structure for a formal qualification, for the coaches to move through levels in the National Qualification Framework and better themselves in their coaching careers.
In coaching one needs to know that there are different needs for each different age or category of athletes. (Duffy mentioned that unpaid and paid coaches have different needs). E.g.children, adult recreational, performance-development and high-performance coaches. This concept refers to the Coach Development Model that has been created to address the staged educational approaches. All level coaches work hard and this must be recognized.
