Sporting has been a staple of the Nike brand since it began in 1964 and has remained that way ever since. Recently Nike has launched the “Short A Guy” campaign, with a commercial promoting the cross-sport gear that Nike has to offer. The 90 second commercial follows a boy who’s continually invited to join sports team “short a guy”. This commercial begins at a basketball court when a young boy riding a skateboard is asked to join their basketball team. And throughout the commercial he wears a multitude of Nike gear in order to play each sport. During the commercial many different athletes are displayed, each in their given sport. This pertains to ethos, building credibility to Nike because of these great athletes wearing their sports gear. Some athletes such as Mike Trout, Garrett Richards, Anthony Davis, Andrew Luck, and many more. Having these athletes in their commercials builds up their reputation as well as help sell their clothes due to admiration of these athletes. Nike is the biggest competitor in the athletic apparel market, with 28 billion dollars in annual sales. So it should come as no surprise that they focus on key demographics to sell their products. Each scene concluded as fast as it began, leaving an element of surprise around every corner. After many different changes that occur while watching this ad, many small details continue to appear that add more and more content than before. It is almost as if Nike left no stone unturned during the making of this ad. When there is room for a zoom-in or a particular focal point, bam, Nike brings you right in the action. For example, one of the final scenes that is by no means the most action packed, still manages to show a great depth of feelings and emotion. As the boy finally returns to the basketball court where he was first introduced at the beginning of the film, he thinks his stressfully fun-filled day had come to an end, but suddenly there is still more to come. The camera makes sure to capture several different styled body shots, and then a close up that displays an exhausted, sweating young boy – almost too tired to accept a pickup basketball game with Anthony Davis. But what makes people buy the name brand Nike? They have great advertisement. I love to watch Nike commercials; they appeal to me as an athlete. The commercials show the inner fight in people, breaking records, becoming a stronger person, being the best you, and being the best athlete; you can be overcoming anything. I find their advertisement to be very inspiring and motivational. The Nike slogan ‘Just Do It’ plastered on so many products inspire others to get out and ‘Just Do It,' no hesitation. Nike tries to appeal to you to buy their products by placing their apparel on professional athletic. Everyone knows Lebron James he has many young athletes that look up to him and want to be just like him. What do they see Lebron James wearing? Nike apparel, for the kids that want to be just like him, they want what he has. So they want the Nike look. For me personally, I see Nike products and logos at just about all sporting events, which is a great strategy for the business.
This commercial makes you take a second to consider all the things you have put on the back burner so to speak due to excuses.
