During my Senior Project, I managed to have a glimpse of two of the many jobs that can be categorized as Computer Science: Information Technologies (IT) and software developing. For my first week of the project I worked at DotNet Technologies, a small IT company that provides technical help to businesses, helping fix a number of computers. On top of this, I also attended several meetings, both within the company and externally with other local businesses. After my week with DotNet, I worked with the software development team at Findley Davies, a business consulting firm, where I learned how to better code in various languages, such as HTML, Javascript, PHP, and several others, as well as how to work with databases. Prior to my time working …show more content…
Nevertheless, I knew that I did not have a choice and that it would likely be good for me to do, so I walked into DotNet anyways. Once in the office, I was greeted by Mr. Stainbrook, given a schedule for what we would be doing over the following week, and asked a number of questions about my interest in computers. Afterwards, he showed me around the office and told me about the company. Eventually, I got to meet the others around the office and grew comfortable rather quickly. For most of the following week I would go to a number of meetings with Mr. Stainbrook, consisting of marketing, networking, and a couple to keep everyone in the business up to date. While I certainly did not expect to go to any meetings while at DotNet, they were one of the highlights of my Senior Project, and I believe they helped me become far less shy as I was meeting dozens of new people every day. During the rest of the week, I would do typical IT work, such as fixing and updating computers, which was surprisingly similar to a lot of the tinkering I do at home. Following my first week, I went to Findley Davies in the tallest building in Northwest Ohio, which was a completely different environment. However, I was not very nervous about meeting my sponsor or any new people anymore, and I was looking forward to the following week. Once I met my …show more content…
Despite the fact that I enjoyed my time on project, the difficulty in finding a sponsor along with the fines was ludicrously stressful. While I understand the necessity for deadlines and a punishment for missing the deadline to teach a lesson, the fines do not seem like the best method of punishment, as they often punish the parents more than the student and add an artificial stress to the beginning of the project that does not need to be there to get students to turn in their paperwork or learn their lesson. Nevertheless, after the stress that came with finding a sponsor, I enjoyed my time on project very much. I believe I have learned a lot, and that it has helped me be open to meeting new people tremendously. Likewise, I would absolutely recommend Mr. Stainbrook as a community sponsor, as it was very obvious that he put a lot of time and effort into creating the best possible experience for me, with great effect. The project has also managed to make me numerous connections, both professional and casual, that I hope to maintain. My experiences while on project have solidified my decision to go into the Computer Science field, and taught me about the typical environments in the two primary Computer Science careers. For these reasons, I likely would recommend future seniors to do Senior Project, as I found the experience to be beneficial, even though it unquestionably began by being very
There is a newly wedded couple who has decided it is time for them to move out their small apartment and buy their own home. They go house hunting, and after seeing two homes they find this house that they feel is the home of their dreams yet it lacks some of the extra luxury things they feel is needed. They decide to purchase the house. They move in two months later and go straight to work. They knock out walls, change the flooring, add a pool, new appliances, remodel the bathroom, new central air and heat system, everything to fit their desired needs. After months of renovation the house is finally complete. They throw a house warming party to celebrate. Life is great for the couple.
I was first introduced to the real world CS and programming languages in Grade 9. I learned Java for 4 years and watching my code execute correctly was always delightful. And that is when I decided that I wanted to pursue CS. At UCI, I learned Python in my first year and currently I am learning C++. Some assignments have really blown me away as I was able to connect the dots between different concepts and produce results. To get exposed to CS, I job shadowed a Web Developer and a Director of Operation. To gain new skills, I did a research project in areas of crowdsourcing where I learned Django and applied my knowledge in creating a website with other teammates using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I worked on IoT and Augmented Reality as a summer intern. I am currently working on Augmented Reality as an intern, this quarter. I believe that learning and applying are different things and unless you are able to develop or progress by applying your knowledge you won’t know if you have indeed trodden the path of mastering it. I am grateful to have several opportunities to help me grow and advance in CS.
2015 was a real turning point in my high school career. I finally started working harder in school and started to enjoy it more. Although the enjoyment came right back down, it was still fun while it lasted. My writing however, has greatly changed. SAT #2 was where I really started having fun. “For Susan was a sinner. She smoked Crack Cocaine every day!” (SAT #2, Nowak) That was the SAT journal that made me realize that writing didn't have to be a chore. However the second half of the year was a little different. I think I started to grow lazy. My previously fine-tuned papers were now pretty much rants. “Pink is used anywhere from romantic nonsense to childish obsessions.” (Gatsby Color Analysis, Nowak) For my Gatsby analysis, my writing was all over the place and covered a wide range of topics. Unfortunately it made it sound pretty bad. I am starting to get better and regularly
So far since I started high school in Roanoke Valley Early College I learned a ton. I learned school is going to get really hard and I need to stay on top of my work which is hard to do for me. I also learned people are going to hateful and want to put you down. They are not strong enough to come to face with it so they just do it behind your back. Since I have been in your Freshman Seminar I learned that you place yourself on a level of where you feel you need to work on to get to the next level. I also learned that when I get older and I am out on my own it is going to be hard and I will have struggles and I have to fix it myself. I realize that my Freshman seminar starts my high school years off and it is important, but I am really seeing me struggling in my high school years to get that 2.5 grade point average to even get into a public university. To be honest, I will be happy to get into any school I can get into because I do have struggles and a lot of them. I have also found out that there will be teachers that does not like at all, but you have to pass
In a team-oriented setting, everyone contributes to how well the group succeeds overall. You work with fellow members of the group to complete the work that needs to be done. Having the right people in the correct roles is an important factor in measuring the success of a team, where you are united with the other members to complete the main goals. Every group is made up of definite strengths and weaknesses. Our team's 3-5 major strengths necessary to work accordingly consist of Informer, Summarizer, Orienter, Piggy-Backer, and Encourager. One of our strengths as a team is that we get input from everyone involved. Every member of our team is a leader in some way. Part of being a good leader is knowing how important it is to receive the best ideas from each member of their team. We attend group meetings where we discuss any challenges, issues, and problems. At these meetings, we often exchange ideas or brainstorm new ones with each other and come up with the best and most creative team solutions as potential answers to those perceived problems.
Operation mangers should also have the same skills as functional manager but they are responsible in managing day to day operations and they should also possess the authority to hire and fire employees.
Project managers have to improve their skills every day to deal with the organizational change and especially the world’s Megatrends. However, it can be a challenge for a project manager to comprehend what skills they should be improved, what sections of project management knowledge that should be tried to perceive, and how to measure and enhance their performance.
In order to conduct our final project and achieve the outcomes we wanted, many skills were needed. Teamwork and cooperation were the most important skills because I was working with two people who I have never worked with before. Communicating with the others was difficult at first, and since they already knew each other it was hard to put my input in. After we spent time out of class together it became natural and we all worked really well together. Working with surveys was a necessary skill too.
Educational psychologists have paid a great attention to have a true understanding of how people learn something new. In the last few centuries, many theories have seen the light of the day and among all the theories, I found behaviorism, cognitivism and experimentalism highly interesting. Since, there is no single universal definition of learning, theories are still proposed and some of them overlap the traditional ones. As the skills acquired by learning, contributes greatly in the overall development of a nation, there is great curiosity around the subject. If a trainer or a teacher knows well, about the learning style of his student or trainee, then things can become much easier for both. While the theories of behaviorism and cognitivism are use in imparting knowledge to kids in schools, experimentalism advocates for learning through personal experiences and is also highly popular in kindergartens, schools, colleges, medical laboratories, corporate training, etc. This essay will include the advantages and limitations of the selected learning theories, followed by a careful evaluation of the research methods so that at the end, the analysis is done in a most justified manner.
Throughout this group project, I had an opportunity to observe and reflect how my personality traits contributed to and hindered the success of the team. According to the Big Five Model, I identify myself as low on extroversion, moderate on neuroticism as well as openness and high on agreeableness and conscientiousness.
Community projects are well known for giving students the opportunity to be able to express them selves and learn new tasks and responsibilities. Although, through out my community project path I found myself finding the right lace to learn and achieve the goals as well as the responsibilities and the role of the experience. Yet, the project wasn’t an easy project because I had to deal with different case mangers and different clients. However, through trying and working on my goals, I was to develop my learning experience in term of making healthy relationship with my clients.
...rks. In a word, the MA experience was considered to be a bridge that combines the student learning with working skills, it would be of great help for my future career.
Throughout this term, my fellow classmates and I have had a chance to participate in a group project with two or three of our peers. The general topic was a vivid problem in a industry. Our class had a very wide and diverse sets of topics: from Styrofoam, to industrial hacking, to corruption in an influential international organization like FIFA, and so many more. Our group decided to develop a project named “Outsourcing and the price we pay for brands”. The name itselves is somewhat self-explanatory, however the problem is so much more complicated and interesting. In this paper, many struggles and concerns, of the group and of my my own, will be unfolded as I reflect the progress of this project.
The thought of community service was a bore to me before I began my volunteer work. I dreaded starting my community service although I knew I had to do it. Where I earned my hours did not even matter to me. I just wanted to get it over with. To my surprise it was not what I expected. Community service was not a painful experience; it was a very enjoyable and beneficial experience.
What knowledge and skills are you gaining? Which of these are new and which already existed?
