So far since I started high school in Roanoke Valley Early College I learned a ton. I learned school is going to get really hard and I need to stay on top of my work which is hard to do for me. I also learned people are going to hateful and want to put you down. They are not strong enough to come to face with it so they just do it behind your back. Since I have been in your Freshman Seminar I learned that you place yourself on a level of where you feel you need to work on to get to the next level. I also learned that when I get older and I am out on my own it is going to be hard and I will have struggles and I have to fix it myself. I realize that my Freshman seminar starts my high school years off and it is important, but I am really seeing me struggling in my high school years to get that 2.5 grade point average to even get into a public university. To be honest, I will be happy to get into any school I can get into because I do have struggles and a lot of them. I have also found out that there will be teachers that does not like at all, but you have to pass …show more content…
their class or you fail and have to retake. One thing I have found very useful that Ms.Ramsey has taught me is the paper rater thing on the computer, it has saved me a ton of bad grades because I just zoom by things and don't care as long as it was done. I had started to notice I was making simple mistakes like not spelling a word right because I was typing too fast and hit the wrong key by accident. In my life at school, I have not really made friends I talk to a few people, but i wouldn't call me and them friends, like where I can text them and we just kind of a conversation and laugh a little.
I do not feel like I fit in at this new school, I am just trying to get my education faster and cheaper than all my old friends at the Roanoke Rapids high school. I feel Roanoke Valley early college is a good school, but It has some improvement, but that is with every school you go to. When I am a Roanoke Valley Early College I don't really feel like I really fit in because don't shy away from people, but also try to impress everyone at the same time. I feel that where ever I go I will have a hard time because I am just a shy kind of person that does not say anything even it makes me hurt mentally or emotionally. This is my essay on how my first quarter at Roanoke Valley Early College went for me so far
there.
AP Seminar was my first experience in an environment that was completely dedicated to learning, without the fixation on the letter grades that ‘determine’ success. My peers were my teachers. I discussed, debated, and collaborated with peers that shared various viewpoints on thought provoking issues that challenged my own. I learned to ask the ‘Whys?,’ ‘Hows?,’ and ‘What Ifs?’ and dive deeper into discussion. The environment fostered differences in interests, mindsets, and intellect. My attraction drew me to seek an intellectually diverse learning environment that challenges my preconceived opinions and ideas. Columbia, through the Core system, acknowledges and uniquely accomplishes the same goals of learning as my AP Seminar class. The prospect
I went to the school board meeting on March 21, 2016 in Kanawha. The following people were at the council: Wayne Kronneman, Leah Deutsch, Ryan Hiscocks, Ryan Johnson, Jay Burgardt, Mona Buns, Gary Chizek, Todd Hammer, and Jon Harle. The others were mainly community member which included teachers, principals, parents and supporters. Some of the West Hancock staff included Mr. Peterson, Mrs. DeHart, Mrs. Bruns, Mr. Francis, Mrs. Gast and others. The other people who were there were parents and other community members. The first part of the meeting was the revision of the budget and presentation of the budget. This was given by Wayne Kronneman. He explained the budget of this year and how it compared to last years. Also he also talked about the budget for next year. After that they had a discussion with the
As the semester finally approaches the finish line, I revisit my past work to compare and contrast how this class has developed me into a successful writer at the college level. Throughout the year my writing style has developed and become broader as I have learned how to incorporate more of my personal views as well as reliable, unbiased information. This portfolio is a representation of how many things I have learned along the way while being an English 102 student.
In COL 101 I have learned many new things about college. Since this is my first semester at college I did not really know where everything was. This class really helped me to learn new things about myself, including what resources are available to me, what my plan for the future is, and the many changes I have endured during this course.
As a new freshman entering this Community College, you will be discovering and experiencing many new things about the world in which you live and yourself. The jump from high school to college can be a very scary but exciting experience. I have some valuable advice for you on how to make this transition smoother and an enjoyable experience rather than a scary and lonely one.
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
High school has been a very interesting experience for me. It has definitely had its highs and lows and many confusing experiences in between. Overall, I feel like I have been equipped for not only college, but also life as a whole. High school has taught me many things, both academically and emotionally. It has revealed and exposed my true colors, both good and bad, and as a result, has built many aspects of my character. My experiences at Alameda High school and Alameda Community Learning Center have shaped me into the person that I am today.
The guest lecture by Peter Johnson, last Thursday, was highly informative for many reasons. Peter Johnson brought in a vast amount of Maine political knowledge. Mills spent time in both the Maine Senate and Maine House of Representatives and recently ran for Governor of Maine. Today Mills is the executive director of the Maine Turnpike Authority and was chosen for this position by Governor Paul.
A huge transition from high school, college can either be a wonderful experience or a horrible experience depending on the person and the situation. To me, college was both, a horrible, yet wonderful experience. I learned a lot about myself throughout the semester. With each failure I realized a little something more about myself. Regardless if I do continue attending the same university, these past few months have brought about something in me that I could have never done alone.
Dear Committee members, Taking English 22 this semester has been a big impact for me as a writer. When I first started I had no clue how to write a strong essay. Throughout the course I managed to learn different sets of skills in order to become a more confident and powerful writer. Honestly writing was never a passion of mine but I learned that writing can be very important because writing is used in everyday life.
Through the last 13 weeks I have learned about whom I am and what makes me who I am. I have made some great friends not only my age but also older and younger than me. I have realized many things about myself that I never would have realized if I wouldn’t have came here. College is a whole new experience that you could never imagine unless you are there. It is nothing like you read or even that you watch on TV. It is completely different and you learn a lot about yourself as a person.
I have learn so much in this class, that is actually amazing to think that I have learn more in a semester than what I learnt with my passed teacher in my four years of high school. My learning journey started with first day of English class. I’m so glad to that I was able be in this class that was so rich with information, not only English related information but also life related information, from I’ve learnt a lot over the course. My professor, Jennifer Lee, did an amazing job incorporating so many different topics to the class. I came to this class feeling unsure about my overall writing skills but I’ve learnt how to do descriptive essays, research, citations, MLA format, multi-paragraph essay, etc.
During this College Composition course, I came across numerous obstacles and educational involvements. Every factor of this course contributed to my overall learning experience. For starters, we often read out of our textbooks, “The Little Seagull Handbook” and “They Say I Say”. These books helped showcase proper writing techniques. In addition, we would have class discussions that everyone would participate in. This opened my eyes to different viewpoints that could influence my writing. I recall one class we had a debate over a topic and everyone had to choose a side to argue. Then when we wrote argument essays, even though they were on a different topic, it helped me view my topic in different ways. Lastly, the most helpful to my writing was peer review. We were told to read our paper out loud to our partner. Although personally I am quiet and dislike reading out loud, I found this very helpful. Instantly, my partner and I could find grammar mistakes that one may not pick up on while reading silently. Then we could also talk about other possible revisions for my paper. For every paper, we would have conferences with the professor. This was effective as well to have a professional giving corrections and ideas. When we would get back our graded rubrics on the assignments we completed, the instructor would leave comments to
Overall my experience of being in Lingleville ISD was a great experience that allowed me to learn a lot not only about the students in the classroom, but also helped me learn a lot about myself. Going in to this classroom I expected to only learn things about classroom management and maybe a few strategies. After spending a few days in this room I learned many other things. I did learn about classroom management but I also learned about content, strategies, organization, lesson planning, and inclusion adaptations. I learned that an inclusion special education student can really thrive being in a mainstream classroom, not only academically but also socially. It was a wonderful learning opportunity to get to be a part of that. My mentor teacher
In your New Student Seminar class this semester, you will learn some of the things I will tell you about in this letter, such as the importance of time management and joining student organizations. However, there are a few things that I wish I had known before attending college. In order to make the transition easier on you, I will tell you about some of my experiences, tips, and the many ways that college has impacted myself as a freshman. As a disclaimer, I should tell you that this is based on my personal experience, and some parts may not apply to you or benefit you. Although, I hope that you will be able to apply some of my advice to your life as a college student.
