In COL 101 I have learned many new things about college. Since this is my first semester at college I did not really know where everything was. This class really helped me to learn new things about myself, including what resources are available to me, what my plan for the future is, and the many changes I have endured during this course. One of the things that I have learned is how to use different resources at college. One of the resources is the library. Since the library is closed right now I learned how to use the online library. I did not know how to use the library website at first, and know I know how to use it better. I use the website for almost all my classes. I use it for finding articles, and doing research. I think this resource will be the most helpful to me, because I can use the online resources to find articles, books, movies, and music. If I need to do research on a topic, I can always request a book and check it out from the library. The COL 101 class has also helped me with my future. When I was assigned to do the future focus plan, I was undecided on what degree I was going for. After a while I decided I was going to go for my associate of arts degree. The future focus plan helped me to figure out what classes I needed to take. Now I …show more content…
I was shy because I didn’t know anybody. Now I’ve gotten to know the people in my classes, and I’ve learned that they can help me just as I can help them. Because I was homeschooled, I was a little laid back on when to turn in assignments, I just turned them in when I felt like it. At college, I have changed the way I turn in assignments. I have learned that if I turn in my assignments early or on time I have a better chance of getting a higher grade. I have also changed in the way I manage my time, before I started college I would just get out of bed whenever I felt like it. Now I set alarms and different times on when I need to get something
One instance where an experience in USC 101 or 102 helped me explore my preferred major was completely the Majors and Minors Scavenger Hunt. This gave me a more thorough look at the different majors and concentrations of engineering, as well as the classes I would need to take at North Carolina State University. I used this information throughout USC and in my everyday life, through my class selection.
This is my first year here at Porterville College, I can say that I have learned many new things. Things that I wanted to learn, that seemed interesting to me, and more important that I was able to do was connect somethings that I have learned in my personal experience, and I think that’s what makes it more interesting and fun. In my “Child, Family, and Community” I have learned how important it is for a child to be in a safe environment where they can have the opportunity to choose from many choices. Also I, have learned about the variety of programs here in Tulare Country that help families and young kids to better themselves for a better life. Another class that I don’t regret taking is English 73X because I have learned many things which
I am currently an English 160 student who is hoping to move on to the next course, which is English 161. I understand the requirements for English 161. It require students to explore a topic in some depth and conduct independent research related to that topic. Conducting research allows students to learn what it is like to participate in academic culture, posing questions about important issues and developing an argument in response to what others have said. It expected students to learn the most valuable skill in college, which is critical thinking. Students have to be able to read challenging readings. Although I still have problems with English, I think I’m qualified to move on.
Throughout the semester I have learned an astounding amount of information. The English 101 curriculum has not only taught me how to write in general, but also taught me a variety of ways to get my point across to the reader. Before I took English 101 I was an average writer at best, but now that I am taking a class that focuses on writing strategies I feel that I have been able to improve as a writer. During the course we were taught how to write an informative essay as well as how to write a persuasive essay. The type of writing that this class has taught me will most definitely help me with future classes as well as my future in the real world. Throughout the English 101 course I have been able to improve as a writer by composing essays
As a college freshman, I was worried about so many things coming into college. The biggest and most important thing was how to actually succeed in college. This course has helped me tremendously with succeeding in college. Throughout this semester, we have gone through multiple topics to help us succeed in college. The topics range from effective note taking, caring for yourself, how to succeed in college, understanding who you are, and also to planning your priorities. From taking this class, I have learned many strategies that helped me understand who I am as a person, how to take effective notes, and how to plan my time.
I have learned a lot from this class such as when it is proper to use a Simi colon and a colon. Another thing that helped me out is how to manage stress by doing breathing exercises from an article I read in my UNI 120 class. It created a way for me to handle stress in a positive way. The third important information I’ve erudite was how to solve integral equation in my MAT 210 in which I was excited to learn. I hope to learn even more next semester from my PSY 101 because I love learning about the thought process of how humans think. What I have learned about myself this semester is that I am very social, responsible, and always positive. All these characteristics gave me the capability to be successful this
Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 101 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. This was my first college writing course and it has given me much more freedom when writing because in high school I felt limited and like what we were writing was not very important. In high school I would write essays to just to fulfill the required word or page count and to a degree I still feel like this but maybe that is why I am an engineering major but in this course I actually was able to express my ideas and for the first time really test the limits of my writing capabilities. I really enjoyed being able to incorporate my voice more in my essays and I believe that I developed my own personal style a bit from this. At the beginning of the semester my writing was quite choppy and there was plenty of room for improvement in the overall flow of my essays. Now, I use several different tactics such as outlining to create better connections between paragraphs. I believe I was able to move beyond many of the high school ways of writing and make general improvements to my essays.
This course has provided me with useful ideas that were practical that I have used in my everyday life. For example, it helped to think critically before reacting to a decision that involved problem-solving and solution - oriented. I am more a fair-minded person and learned that every person is in control of his or her life. Thus, knowing how to use critical thinking as a writer, would help me to become a writer.
I have discovered a lot about myself in general and how to deal with many issues for myself and others. I learn to think more critical in the class and in the real world as well. This course has helped me overcome my fear of worrying. I was unsure of myself when I first start class, but I quickly learn to understand myself and other people behavior by looking at my own self first that meant on the inside and outside. I have always been goal-oriented and generally known what I want out of life. This course has helped me to know myself better. It has taught me a valuable skill that I can apply at work with the students and in the master’s degree program. I have found that I like online education, and I know that I can achieve my goals if I work hard enough. This class forced me to become more organized. Through the various assignments, I have mastered the use of technology. I learned to communicate through discussion question with my classmates and instructor.
I really liked brushing up on my math skills and learning more that will benefit my long and short term goals. I really think the last three weeks of class in problem solving, financing, and statistic will help me in my future. I am now confident in my capability to solve word problems or even the math problems I face every day. I feel like I am going to be able to solve any problem with a logical answer. I have an understanding on how financing works and how much interest stacks ups on loans. I know technical terms, like compounding interest, to help me start a retirement or savings account. All I learn in financing is going to be very beneficial to my money conservation in the future. I also have a better idea about statistics and how to collect the date and concluded if it is bias or not. Math 105 has been a great class to help me understand how math works in my life. I think a lot of people should take this class, whether it is for a degree or
I 'm going to talk to you about a big part of my life that my shyness greatly affected. First, I would
In the College Study Skills course I learned a whole lot more than these three things. I learned how to make a master schedule, how to transfer information from short-term to long-term memory, how to make a goal, and what is in the library at M.T.S.U. So this class is very beneficial. It is not another boring class that you’ll want to skip. This class will guide you and take you through a journey of how to become a better student. It will allow you to discover how you learn and will teach you how to save time. Now, you know what to expect in this class. The semester will end before you know it, and at the end you will see how much you actually learned.
This course has helped me in many ways, especially time management, health, and money. Instead of having a very relaxing week and then panicking at the end of the week when everything is due, this course has helped me to plan out my studies. Planning them out helps me produce higher quality work and assists me with my stress problem. One thing that has helped a lot is getting short easy assignments or parts of assignments done in short periods of extra time I have. For example, instead of turning on that TV, wait ten minutes and knock out an assignment. Another asset for myself has been setting dates to have assignments done. Although these assignments may not be due on that day, getting them done and out of the way, makes more time for other
Many of us faced challenges in our years and struggled with them. Some of those struggles might have changed who we are or how we later approached life. A lot of people think that shy people are just quiet, and do not like to make friends. It's not the truth for me. As some of my friends know, I love to talk and share to others. I am a really outgoing fun girl, once I'm out of
UNC 100 is a course that is designed to help students transition from high school to college. When I initially started the course, I was still stuck in the habits that I had picked up during my senior year. I did not know how to manage my time well, nor did I know exactly what it meant to take self responsibility. I felt like my high school had prepared me to sit through long lectures, but they did not prepare me well enough to be able to handle the amount of work I received. Although I thought I was fully prepared for college, UNC 100 has helped me to realize that I was completely oblivious to what I thought I would experience.
