Imagine that you walk into a cafeteria and you see children in line to buy lunch. The lunch is burnt and cold. You see the kids who bought lunch sit down and start asking people for food, they say no. At the end of the lunch period the kids lunch trays still have all the food on them. The children are starving and a lot of food was wasted. You don’t want that right? I believe that our school should get a new lunch menu because many students do not like the food served, there are not many options, and there are many problems with the food.
One reason our school should get a new lunch menu is many students do not like the food served. For example, a survey was taken and of the 31 students 100% said they disliked the food. As student Bryan Huang said, “The lunches are horrible, they need better choices and more choices.” In other words, the food is not delicious and there are not many choices. Also, when children don’t get proper nutrition they have trouble focusing in school. Most students do not buy lunch because they feel it is unappealing and do not like the food served. Many students go to other kids and ask for food. In addition, many students do not eat breakfast so they rely on lunch to fuel them for the day. But, if they do not like the food served they won’t eat so they starve for the rest of the school day, which can
For example, many students say the food is cold, fake, and disgusting. Students, Jordyn Gilbert and Leah Gelik found mold on the lettuce in the salad. Also, student Brianna Langberg says,” I think that the food is disgusting, there are very small portions, I don’t think it is real food, and their food is rock solid. Many children say that the food is served cold and hard. In addition, there are many complaints about the food. Here are a few: No flavor, tastes bad, small portions, not fresh, and most people say that the food is
The food that they serve here at HVHS is picked and made by professional’s. They are to do what they are instructed to do and make by the government. The food they make is not only best oh so damn good food you’ll ever eat but, it’s so nutritious and healthy for you! Plus students who go off campus for food
Back in the day the students of America were provided with actual meals that were cooked for lunch. Their lunch ladies actually cooked and prepared their meals before there were food heaters and other food heating appliances. Nowadays our school meals are heated and served to us rather than cooked. I believe it’s time to put an end to these artificial meals. It’s time to have meals actually cooked and served to us.
Last point I want to make, it’s not the cooks fault about how the food taste. Most of It is prepackaged. They can’t add seasoning and they have to watch how much they put into it if they do. The cooks aren’t even allowed to use salt anymore. They replaced it with a filler (fake salt), they say its healthier for the children. If the cooks don’t follow the guidelines they can lose their jobs and so can the people approving the menu. The cooks and BOE sit down each month to make the menu. They have to make sure it follows each guideline and regulation. If it doesn’t they have to find
Many cafeteria workers and staff members in 49 states have said many students do not want the governments new school lunches. Almost 7 out of 17 schools with have been seen with students throwing away some or all their fruits or vegetables, even the cafeteria workers are suffering under these new standards. About 60.3 percent of school districts want flexibility to be given to all schools to improve their ability to provide and give good nutrition without harm to any instructions and school district operations. Schools should know by now what is good for students and what is not, but they should not go overboard with the wheat and whole grain items. Another example that shows that schools should be responsible for providing a nutritious lunch is knowing that there are a variety of ways to make healthy foods taste good for school students. Healthy tasty food that will risk diabetes and obesity .One of the biggest reasons people do not eat healthy foods is because they feel it as if it will not taste good. The problem is, if your health food does not taste good, you are eating the wrong health food. Just because something is good for you does not mean it has to taste nasty, boring, or completely gross. There are plenty of ideas out there for eating healthy without making sacrifices on taste. “It is silly that people are worried about kids throwing things out. There are many ways to make
We have definitely improved school lunches in America, however they still leave something to be desired. This is something that seems so simple to fix, but why is this problem so prevalent in our society? Mark Bittman explores this issue in an article “Serving up School Lunches of Tomorrow.” Bittman builds credibility by “joining forces with researchers from the Department of Agriculture and the University of California, Berkley’s School of Public Health to evaluate a program to increase school lunch participation, improve nutrition, reduce waste, and ultimately counter tendencies towards obesity.”(Bittman par1) And what they are doing to improve school lunches for their students. This article makes the claim that America needs to make an effort to make school lunches healthier and a lot more accessible for all of its students.
Many students really don’t like what their school lunches have to offer, most students hate the way the food tastes and it might be because public schools in particular have really poor choices and least variety of the food they serve, not only that but they are also excluding the fact that there’s student with different religions or lifestyle choices. It is truly unfair because of the insufficient options of vegetarian meals available many students would rather skip the meal. That’s not all but the little options that the cafeteria does have are not even healthy or appetizing options, most of their “vegetarian” options are either high in saturated fat carbohydrates and diary like greasy pizza, baked potato, deep-fried cheese sticks and pastries
According to School Lunches: Healthy Choices vs. Crowd Pleasers, Amanda Lanser schools were wrong.“Schools could include students in making decisions about what fruits and vegetables are served at lunch”. If schools did a vote about what fruits and vegetables kids would want provided at school more kids would eat the foods. The reason why kids might not eat the healthiest food is because they don’t like those types of vegetables and fruits. Studies show that when kids have a healthy lunch they perform better in school than the kids who don’t. Kids should have a say in the healthy item that are provided in school. In conclusion kids should be able to choose healthier foods they are
Outside of school kids don’t get enough proper nutrition. Everyday in the United States there are approximately 12 million children who receive a free or reduced price lunch because their families may need government help. Besides the fact that many students rely on school lunches for their daily meals, the healthier school food that schools provide is a benefit for the children because it can prevent childhood obesity as well as improve the child's academic performance. There are many kids who rely on school lunches to provide them not only enough food but healthy and nutritious foods for their health. Underprivileged families can not afford food for every single meal at times so these school meals are important for them. There is nearly 4
I walked into the lunchroom, and they handed me my lunch tray. They gave me a scoop of orange looking spaghetti with 3 meatballs that were the size of a tennis ball. The school should change the school lunch menu because the food looks raw and like different color, also the food looks disgusting, and its really bad for your health. I believe they can change the schools lunch preparation.
The kids feel that they are not getting enough food, and the food they do get does not taste very good. Part of these issues are due to the changes being made by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Michelle Obama, etc. Parents, on the other hand, are more concerned with the price of the lunches. Parents want to see their children eating healthy lunches, but at a lower price. Many families cannot afford the rising costs of lunch. It seems that many schools are not exactly happy with the new regulations being made by the USDA because many kids are still hungry at the end of the day, and many of them have extra-curricular activities after school. Michelle Obama thinks that cutting portion size is a good way to help with childhood obesity, but by doing this children are just unhealthy and hungry. Many people believe that the U.S. Department of Agriculture is not making a lot of progress in making school lunches healthy and cost efficient. In order to solve these problems, many families choose to have their child bring their own lunch to school. It saves money, and children can be as healthy as they want to
I am not saying that all school lunches given are horrible. There are days were lunch includes fresh food like salads and fruits. But, I believe that there should always be enough freshly made food to serve for students. For the lunch ladies not to separate the school lunch and include the regular day food accompanied by the fresh salad and fruits daily. Every student has the right to be served something that is both tasteful and includes any type of healthy food item.
School lunch has been a major issue because of the lack of nutrients and real food given to students. The government controls what is being served in schools. The federal government began getting involved with the school lunch program during the 1930s. Clearly that was a complete fail because the federal government had no constitutional role in school lunches. The lunch was getting worse that students started protesting about the calories they wanted it reduce and way better food. Michelle Obama designed a program to improve the lunch nutrition standards. Some people have compared Americans school lunch menu with other countries and our food is one of the worst. If we do not start changing our school menus it can lead to health issues.
School lunches are to provide nourishment for students so they can excel in the classroom and on the field, not leave them broken down and tired for the rest of the day. Poor nutrition standards allow for school lunches to offer the minimum requirement to students. The quality of food is diminished with pesticides and other harmful chemicals, which also does not provide enough nutrients for students’ brains and bodies to grow and mature at a healthy rate, and finally the amount of food given to students is not adequate for every student, because every person is different, the amount of food given to each student should be different as well. Once these things are addressed, school lunch can change for the better and provide the nutrition needed for every student to achieve greatness and someday be a future leader of
Have you ever tasted school cafeteria food? I don’t think you would want to. In school story books, do you have characters saying that the food tasted good in school cafeterias? Nope. I am not a fan of a sham.
Students will begin to dread coming to school after the new lunch menu is changed. Students will start to pack their lunch and avoid eating school lunch all together. But the people that do not have anything to eat at home will be the ones that will suffer the most. They will have no choice to eat nasty foods that they do not like. This small change will cause significant anger and problems in the lives of many people. The benefits from not having healthy lunches outweigh the benefits of having healthy
