School lunches use to be yummy, the favorite part of a child’s day, but now students moan and groan about going to lunch. Michelle Obama changed the guide lines for school lunches since her husband has been in office. She says that starting children out eating nutritious foods could longer there life, 1/3 kids in today’s society are obese or overweight. After Mrs. Obama changed the school lunches from good to healthy the percent in waste went up in schools. Since children aren’t eating, they aren’t getting the nutrients at all. Which is better? Having children eat food that is a little unhealthy or having children not eat at all and waste tons of food. Children around the United States aren’t eating lunch, they changed the standards, became stricter on snacks and now the food doesn’t taste as yummy. Maybe if the government gave schools more money they could open a salad bar for lunch and also give a bottle of water instead of milk. Also, fresh fruits would be nice sometimes. Maybe a big juicy yellow apple to bite into for lunch or a juicy orange that squirts you in the eye when you peel it. All the problems with kids eating unhealthy would be more realistic is the federal government let us have a salad bar with fruits and vegetable on it. Last point I want to make, it’s not the cooks fault about how the food taste. Most of It is prepackaged. They can’t add seasoning and they have to watch how much they put into it if they do. The cooks aren’t even allowed to use salt anymore. They replaced it with a filler (fake salt), they say its healthier for the children. If the cooks don’t follow the guidelines they can lose their jobs and so can the people approving the menu. The cooks and BOE sit down each month to make the menu. They have to make sure it follows each guideline and regulation. If it doesn’t they have to find
