Imagine being in the lunch line at school, your stomach is grumbling, your mouth is dry, and you can not wait to get something to eat. Then when you get up into the serving area, slap a piece of thin and dry turkey on your tray. Immediately, your excitement is non-existent, and you leave lunch still hungry. School lunches tend to be very bland and plain in the sense that they serve many of the same things over and over again. Many of the foods are often burnt, not cooked enough, or simply just do not taste good because they are pre-frozen and just heated up. If only students could leave school during their lunch period to get what they want to eat. Students should be able to leave school for lunch and get the food they desire, especially when …show more content…
Raider Nation Chronicle states that, “if they abuse the rules more than three times they lose the privilege,” (Ibarra). This could prevent students from returning on time or skipping the rest of the school day. Another major concern with letting students go out for lunch is that they could cause havoc within the community, disrespect people, and litter when no one is looking. Students tend to act differently when around their friends, just to try and impress them and make them laugh or make them think they are cool. A possible solution for this is to have the food dealers watch out for the kids to be misbehaving, and if they catch them then they can report them to the school. This would also result in a loss of privileges in order to go out to eat. The final problem with letting students go out to eat is if they get hurt or get in trouble, then they have no way of contacting them. For example, if one of the students got into a car accident and did not return to school, then the school would not know what happened to the student. This can be resolved by making sure the students put their contact information on the sign out …show more content…
There are many reasons why students would like to leave school for lunch. One reason includes the fact that it offers a time of socialization for the students. Students could choose to go with their friends to go out for lunch, or they could choose to go to the same place to eat. This would result in socialization of the student with their friends, which they might not get throughout the school day if they have different classes. Relating back to the fact that students would clear their minds of school for 45-50 minutes and come back engaged to learn. As well as socialization, many students simply do not like school lunches. This could be due to the fact that they are overcooked, undercooked, or it just does not taste good. A school newspaper did research and they concluded that, “School lunch is notoriously bad due to the fact that it doesn’t taste good, has a limited menu, and oftentimes consists of uncooked food,” (Yearwood). Therefore, students don’t want to eat school lunches because they are gross most of the time. Lastly, students want to leave school for lunch because they get to choose what they want to
Imagine that you walk into a cafeteria and you see children in line to buy lunch. The lunch is burnt and cold. You see the kids who bought lunch sit down and start asking people for food, they say no. At the end of the lunch period the kids lunch trays still have all the food on them. The children are starving and a lot of food was wasted. You don’t want that right? I believe that our school should get a new lunch menu because many students do not like the food served, there are not many options, and there are many problems with the food.
“Our Schools need to start teaching kids how to be healthy.”- Unknown. School lunches have created a chronic problem in a school setting, and since it hasn't been fixed, 6-11 year olds have had a 17% increased chance of becoming obese (Centers for Disease control and Prevention). Most school districts don't even bother changing the food restrictions just so they can please their students. Unhealthy school lunches are a huge problem among children in the United States, it can cause obesity, stress, and many other problems.
If schools serve lunches with whole grains and protein, the students would stay full and attentive much longer than a student with a lunch of sugar, white bread, and lush greens. Although many believe that schools should provide a healthy lunch for students, there is a small percentage who feels that because of the budget cuts, schools should not pay for more expensive and healthier food. Shereen Jegtvig, a nutritionist, wrote "Appleton, Wisconsin replaced their regular poor-quality school lunches with healthy fresh food.changes resulted in improved behavior.... ... middle of paper ... ... 1.
Why can’t we leave campus for lunch? I would enjoy being able to leave campus for lunch. I think that we should be given the right to leave campus for lunch. Even tho it may not seem right to the principle or the school board I choose to believe we could be trusted to leave campus for lunch everyday. I have also learned that our school is a completely closed campus meaning that you can’t leave the school the entire day.
4 out of every 5 schools in the United States do not meet the current USDA standards in place for the fat composition that is included in the student lunches.(Vittana) Even though the country is trying to get students healthy lunches, not all are meeting the criteria for school lunches. But that is because not all schools can afford having to buy fresh food. All schools should meet the standard so schools should try to make their lunches as healthy as possible.
School lunch is an obvious problem that has yet to be fixed. Mark Samuelsson once said, “We struggle with eating healthily, obesity, and access to good nutrition for everyone. But we have a great opportunity to get on the right side of this battle by beginning to think differently about the way that we eat and the way that we approach food.” A well know fact to almost all students and their parents is that there are many problems with school lunches and it needs to change. Not only is school lunch unhealthy, but it also does not taste good most of the time. Some people feel that school lunch is not that big of a deal so it should be very cheaply processed in factories and preserved, but that is not the case. In order to solve the lingering
More than 30 million children trundle through school cafeteria lines and 24% of children leave their food untouched. If 24% of students leave their food untouched, this is a waste of perfectly good food. They leave their food untouched because they just don’t like the food that they are given, but they are forced to get it because they have no other choice other than that specific type of food. If students could choose the type of food that they want by leaving campus and going to their favorite restaurant, it could benefit students tremendously. Although having an open campus at lunch may lead to skipping school or other delinquent activities, high schools should have an open campus because it benefits students by it giving students a way
Teenagers already have a rough life, as they are expected to come to the same place every day and do annoying assignments that only stress them out. On top of that, they have to deal with teachers nagging them about their work while studying for upcoming tests. With all that built-up stress, the only chance they have to relax is during their daily lunch break, a time when they can hang out with friends and eat some delicious food. At least that’s how it used to be until Michelle Obama came in and ruined it all. By trying to make food “healthier” for the students, she subsequently wrecked lunch for millions of kids who would rather starve than eat lunch at school now.
High school provides the formation for not only education, but for personal growth. Open campus lunch is basically the ability to leave school property during the lunch period. Statistics show that “nearly 1 in 3 high schools are allowing open campus during lunch” (Mieszkowski, “Open-campus policy eats away at school nutrition effort”). Allowing students to leave the campus for lunch can also provide a few benefits. A few of those benefits include: healthier food options, a break from all the classes and teachers, and it puts trust and responsibility on the students to return to class after.
School lunch provides two main choices every day. Fast food places have numerous different items to choose from. Each month, the school has a different lunch menu with the same exact choices, just on different days from the previous month. If students had off campus lunch, they could go to a different fast food place every week and get something different every time. If a student is on a diet, going out to a fast food places gives the student an opportunity to eat healthier, because each place has many items that are healthy (9 Primary). Going out for lunch also requires extra
They say school lunches are not meant to satisfy all the needs of all the students. That they are meant only to feed the students, just enough, so that they can continue their learning without losing concentration if those students did not come prepared with their own food. But, what if there was another way to get home cooked meals, even if you didn’t come prepared? What if there was a better way? “We all want to eat good food.
Should School Lunch be Extended? The amount of time we have to eat school lunch is 20 minutes, and it’s surely not enough for students to maintain a healthy body full of different nutrients. If you were limited in time during lunch, how would you feel? You can’t even choose healthy and delicious items at the same time. So why do students of Madisonville’s schools receive a limited time affecting our quality of food, our bodies to digest, and the waste of the school’s money?
Why is this a problem? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, more advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren’t motivated to eat unhealthy, not-tasty food.
It’s time to get rid of cafeteria food. The principal has a point about not eating outside of school, but eating outside school could give us better food, and also more decisions on what to eat.
Also kids leave school to go buy lunch because they doesn't like to eat school
