School Lunches
4 out of every 5 schools in the United States do not meet the current USDA standards in place for the fat composition that is included in the student lunches.(Vittana) Even though the country is trying to get students healthy lunches, not all are meeting the criteria for school lunches. But that is because not all schools can afford having to buy fresh food. All schools should meet the standard so schools should try to make their lunches as healthy as possible.
School lunches affect the students school work and the grades, due to the unhealthy lunches at school. Without the students getting the right nutrition needed, they do not meet the academic expectations. The teachers expect the students to perform well in school especially through the year. “Without good food, students are just stressed out with school, and then still stressed about being encouraged to perform good as well” (Anderson). When students get the proper nutrition it can help them avoid bad behavior that would require getting detention, suspension or even expulsion(Anderson). School lunches could also affect the grades the students receive because they lack the nutrition they need. “Studies have shown that students grades went up when they are eating healthier”(Anderson). Schools are meant to give our children a healthy and nurturing environment, and yet so much of the lunches in schools are fattening; does this stop schools from achieving the aforementioned goal? Childhood obesity in the United Sates continues to be a growing problem despite so any new programs to help combat it, and new research is showing how schools may be playing a large role in childhood obesity. In other words, the food is not delicious and there are not many choices. Also, when children don’t get proper nutrition, they have trouble focusing on school. Most students do not buy lunch because they feel it is unappealing and do not like the food served. Many students go to other kids and ask for food. In addition, many students do not eat breakfast, so they rely on lunch to fuel them for the day.

If only some, or less than the majority, of students are receiving the nutritional values they need, we need to adapt the reform to further achieve better standards for school lunch programs. School cafeterias are one other place for unhealthy foods. Most Schools have fast foods sponsoring them. Some school lunches are not that good or cooked right. Some school lunches are not that healthy either or not that good for the digestive system. Cafeterias should have better selections on the menus. The government has supported the school lunched and have it be in portions that the plate will be healthy. On most school lunches even breakfast have some healthy food choices but not that much. So, the government will say the cafeterias having the same menus. School lunches should have the menu have healthier options.
