Should School Lunch be Extended? The amount of time we have to eat school lunch is 20 minutes, and it’s surely not enough for students to maintain a healthy body full of different nutrients. If you were limited in time during lunch, how would you feel? You can’t even choose healthy and delicious items at the same time. So why do students of Madisonville’s schools receive a limited time affecting our quality of food, our bodies to digest, and the waste of the school’s money? To begin, the time impacts the quality of the food choices. With the time given, 20 minutes is not a lot if you really think about it. According to the Harris Schools Solution website, a Harvard professor affirms, “... Students are too often consuming fast foods and drinks as quickly as possible as time dwindles during their lunch period. So most students from our school mostly skip the vegetables. This does not in any way benefit the students' health. Also, the Your King County website, claims that, “Children often eat the food they like first, such as processed or sugary foods rather than vegetables.” Due to having a short lunchtime that gives the students no other choice, but to eat what they want and be at least glad they ate what they wanted. But again, this is unhealthy for students, especially when we go through this process five times a week. Added to that, the second reason is that the lunchtime isn’t long enough for students to digest properly and be full. When given a short period to eat for lunch, it affects not only our body but also our academics. Let’s say you run out of lunchtime and you’re still hungry, then your stomach tends to growl and you lose focus on
