Haven many leaders in one’s work history we come across some great leader who shines above the rest. Ms. Sandra Wigden, a leader who had all the quantities of a leader. Ms. Wigden vision to have the meals for the staff and residents to be ready on time and served at the proper temperature to ensure no one gets sick. Ms. Wigden set up food prep. Serving time for all area of the facility so when it was time for one unit to eat only that unit food will be prepared. Ms. Wigden has the charisma to see the good in others where we see an inmate, MS. Wigden a person who can perform a task and get the job done Ms. Wigden was able to encourage the inmate worker to work with the staff no matter how hard some of us can be.In work with the inmate staff. Ms. Wigden has greater charisma dealing with correctional officers in helping hardworking inmate staff in staying out of trouble to keep their job. Ms. Wigden all ways wanted to do right by the inmate residence, never wanted to give them a cheap meal or cheat on the cost of food price or force the staff to work too much overtime. A good thing to do is understand the task the supervisor has to get accomplished and the period he or she has to work with. Clashing with a show that a person is not willing to work as a team or show no respect for leadership. Others team members can think that you ate not willing to work with them or side with you and no task get carry out resorting to overtime or termination. There are ways to work with a supervisor you disagree with by speaking with the supervisor before or after work or in writing. It sometimes hard for a supervisor to change their leadership style, and the best thing we all can do work around it by carrying out the task the way they see fit and discussing the issue after the job is carried out. Chad Miller, manager of Buffalo Wild Wings in Dubuque, excellently showcases leadership characteristics each time I work with him. Throughout my one and a half years working underneath him, I have witnessed many great exchanges of leadership from Chad to customers, employees, and his other managers. The way he spoke about running the blocks and how all inmates needed something from him and the responsibilities that come with the different jobs he performed as a CO. All these things you have to do while still being accountable for all the inmates under your charge. But being a good CO isn’t just about good accountability, it’s about trying to be a mentor and role model to some people that may have not had a chance to learn better things or trades. Though there are many good qualities in a leader, Catherine Meliniotis sums it all up in her article written for Advance Healthcare Network. For example, she discusses how it is always imperative to begin with good communication, continue to request feedback from staff, patients and families, encourage staff to provide their own ideas and suggestions, and ask your staff if you are focusing on the right concerns. Schall’s second short term goal for DJJ should be to improve the quality of DJJ’s staff. This progress can be measured by staff evaluations that measure the quality and quantity DJJ’s employees work. If employees are not producing, she has no choice but to replace them with more qualified candidates. Schall’s third short term goal for DJJ should be to improve the conditions at Spofford. Although Schall is hesitant to get too involved in Spofford, she needs to make short term improvements, until the decision is made on what exactly to do with Spofford. The real person who has made an impact on not only myself, but a great deal of people in the community over quite a few years is Ms. Barbara Neiman of Brockton Avenue Elementary School. Working in different fields over the course of her life, Ms. Neiman has had to convert to various styles of leadership. Since she has had to alter the ways in which she leads, I selected pieces from three different practices that I believe best fit her: The Path-Goal Theory, Servant Leadership, and a little bit from the Behavioral Approach.

I have been fortunate to work with several heads of departments within a couple years of graduating college. During this time, I have worked with quality leaders and not so great ones. The quality leaders were competent, skillful and endowed with people skills. These leaders gave me the opportunity to grow and a sense of purpose. After reading The Leadership Advantage by Warren Bennis, I was quickly reminded about a former superior of mine that lacked the understanding and knowledge of what qualities a leader should have. The company also did not entertain a culture that promotes employee satisfaction.

Although there are many outstanding, albeit necessary qualities of a good leader, it is the leader’s beliefs in which greatness is given its first breath, fostered by action, and spread throughout the institution. A great leader believes in encouraging, not destroying; in setting the precedence instead of yielding to prominence ; in collaboration, not division; in giving, not taking; and in having high standards and volunteering to be the first of many to be held to them. A great leader does not take advantage of the people being lead, but instead, creates an advantage for the people by giving them the opportunities to lead. Only when people take ownership of an institution will passion be cultivated, action be taken, and greatness be achieved.
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
There is a time and place to insert these styles and depending on the people being lead will help key into what style needs to be brought to light. Being a leader seems to be both engrained in us genetically and life lessons mold into our leadership style as we progress through life. The balance of rewards and punishments were carefully applied, but he ensured to continue maximizing great experiences since human nature tends to want to be surrounded by it. My stepfather gave us his selfless service and seeks no recognition for what he did; he was worthy of it.
It is not possible to only use one type of leadership style. I need to learn to read situations better which will allow me to adapt my leadership style accordingly. It is also important to consider the individual follower when determining whether to be more task-oriented or relationship-oriented. As I found out from the experience I explained above, people’s day-to-day mindsets and feelings should be taken into consideration in order to be the most successful. It is impossible to always come to the correct conclusion on how to approach a situation, but taking the time to consider it is guaranteed to reduce the likelihood of making the wrong
