Some people were born to be great leaders and some were born to be great learners. I ask myself this question, “How was I created?” Was I born a leader or was I molded to lead. As I explain my philosophy on how I want to lead, I will first dive into my past to recognize and pin point my creator. October 27th 2004 I raise my right hand in order to serve and protect the United State against all enemies, foreign and domestic. At this moment in my young personal leadership journey, I get my first glimpse of a leadership style, “shut up and listen.”
Clear and concise guidance was the meat a potatoes in my early stages of molding of who I am today as a leader or, at least I think. It was quite simple, I have A, B, C and D to do, this is how I’m told I’ll do it, and then I execute. Seems simple right? It is simple but it left me with questions and the want to ask, “why?” and I asked it a lot. At a later time in my career I noticed another type of leadership style, and the question was, “What do you guys think?” and that was asked quite often. This style had about the same success rate when completing a task then my first encounter but why?
There is a time a place to insert these styles and depending on the people being lead will help key into what style
The method of applying transactional theory nails this way of teaching. The balance of rewards and punishments were carefully applied but he ensured to continue maximizing great experiences since human nature tends to want to be surrounded by it. My stepfather gave us his selfless service and seeks no recognition for what he did; he was worthy of it. Appling humility and being humble is something that was given to me by my stepfather and I see it being applied to this day. I find it to be a very passive type of leadership but with an understanding that concise affirmative approach is not too far
There have been countless books, lectures, and and trainings, and retreats constructed around the idea of cultivating leadership in an individual. However, cultivating individuals’ ability to follow great leadership has received far less attention. Who are these people leading if each person within an organization is being trained to be a leader? The word follower has negative connotations, evoking the images of a weak, uncreative, milquetoast personality. However, Jimmy Collins, in his book, “Creative Followership: In the Shadow of Greatness”, suggests that the ability to be led brings as much creativity, consciousness, and indeed leadership to an organization or team as the leader himself.

“In order to be a good leader, there are two things to remember. Lead from the Front and always set the Example. From these two leadership principles, everything else will fall into place.”
The vision of leadership that leaders are born made, and not learn to be leaders is still considered but not popular among researchers (Avolio et al, 2013).
Our world is filled with many successful leaders. The gift of being a leader can be learned; however some individuals have a natural born talent to be a leader. Each leader has his or her own unique leadership style. The gift of being a leader can be learned. Certain individuals are born with a charismatic style and can easily be a leader. A successful leader is one who can inspire and motivate people towards a goal. Martin Luther King Jr. was an individual with a born gift to lead people. The following paper will discuss how Martin Luther King Jr. was able to inspire and motivate people with his effective leadership style.
To inspire and influence others, a leader must possess many skills and abilities. As motivational speaker Peter Northouse, states, “a leader should be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant” (Northouse, 2013) Moving an entire group of individuals toward a singular goal is a considerable undertaking. Without effective communication skills and a clear vision of what needs to be accomplished, one will feel like they are trying to herd cats rather than leading.
I believe that leadership is not something that you are born with, but that has to be learned over time. You learn to become a leader from watching other leaders, and also from personal experience. People should become leaders; so that they can help others do their best. They should not become leaders for the title and power that may come with leadership. Being a leader does not mean you get to boss people around by telling them what to do. The purpose of a leader is to guide others by encouraging, showing them the way, and by challenging them to do the best that they can do. I learned leadership through personal experience. In high school I played sports and had many class projects to do. My senior year was the first time my school had a soccer program, and I along with two other girls was captains. As we all know, when a group of girls come together, the drama comes too. All three of the captains had to work together and show the girls that if we wanted this program to be a success and grow, they had to work together as well. It was hard at first, but when we encouraged everyone, it worked out better than expected in the end. Also, in my business class, we had a lot of projects that were mostly group projects. During the end of the year, we had a project where we had to make up a new product. My partner and I were both seniors and it was a stressful time with finals, SAT scores, graduation, and trying to become honor graduates. We were tired and just did not want to do another project, but our teacher, Mr. Brace, did not give up on us. He showed us what to do, and encouraged us constantly every day. He would tell us many positive things and would check up on us. He was a great teacher and a great leader. Leadership may be one wo...
There isn’t a perfect way to lead and while some may be stubborn to certain ways, eventually it will be tested and the ultimate answer comes through the success of that leader. Philip Purcell led with a coercive style; demanding his way was the way. Sumner Redstone believed in empowering his employees and allowing them to be a part of the success; he led using a democratic style. Lastly, Martha Stewart was old school and always gave direct orders and expected them to be followed; she led using the authoritative style. All very different styles with amazing success; finding the right approach is the most important aspect of
Depending on the situation my leadership style tends to fall into one of two groups. In cases where it is necessary to galvanize a group into action and provide concise directions, I do my best to coordinate effectively and instill enthusiasm. Conversely, in situations where guidance, rather than pure leadership is needed, I sit and listen. If the group needs to be directed on the right course I chime in, but the best work is done when the members produce the ideas. This type of leadership, modeled through guidance, has been an area of particular growth for me this past year. However, leading through pure enthusiasm has always been a strength and an asset.
Theodore Roosevelt once said,“Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.” This quote Illustrates how a leader should portray himself to his followers. This also shows how a leader should treat his followers with a “soft voice” yet hold “a big stick”. Basically he is suggesting treat them with respect but show them that you are the head as a leader. Strong leaders that have leaderly qualities are Rosa Parks, Mahatma Gandhi, and also Malcolm X. A leader should possess courage, intelligence, and self confidence.
There are four different leadership styles, which are autocratic, consultative, participative and free-rein. A leadership style is the driver in the success or failure of any project or work environment. The leadership style used by management directly influences team members ' performance and their ability to carry out instructions, as well as motivates the team to reach collective goals of the organization (Cunningham, Salomone, & Wielgus, 2015). I will also explore my experience as a manager and describe what type of leadership style I used.
Leaders can have a powerful impact on the futures of many, and the way in which one approaches leadership is paramount to the type of impact one will have. Continual growth in the areas of knowledge I have and seek to acquire, as well as recognizing my leadership style and utilizing my personal strengths to the fullest, is vital to the successful implementation of my personal philosophy of leadership.
I like the fact that the teacher pointed out that leadership can be found everywhere. Leaders don't necessarily exist only in a company where there are a lot of people following you. “Everyone has the potential and possibility to be a leader”. They could be the best at inspiring others, or best at solving problems or dealing with criticism. By and large we all have the necessities to lead and I find, during the group discussions, that the difference and uniqueness of us that give us our own perspective to view and do things. Leadership is also about understanding and combining many different talents and to make them work together to create the best result. There are many kinds of leaders out there, and so many leadership styles. Yet I think we shouldn’t categorised ourselves into one or identify our superiors into one. Why? Because I think it is crucial to be flexible and adapt to which way to lead according to the situations For example, the Democratic style maybe the most popular and most effective, yet it is proved to be counter-productive in urgent occasions requiring instant and firm decisions from one person only, and that is the

Leadership is found not just at work but all around us. In any situation, leaders take a step forward and take charge of the situation. It can be at home, at work or at any other place. Leaders are never born, they become leaders because they have the credibility and people would love to follow them.
