Leadership is the social influence to motivate and encourage others towards a positive change. A leader must have a clear goal in mind to create a set purpose and must be committed in order to accomplish the groups goal. The leaders must focus on five key components; inclusive, purpose, ethical, empowering and process. Relational leadership focuses on taking this approach of leadership as purposeful and helps build commitment to the group, and empower those involved. Those involved in the leadership process need know who they are as a person in order to help create a change in the group, they have to be knowledgeable, aware of not just themselves but others, and take proper action. The Red Cross Club is one of the many community groups on campus set out to help the Oswego County community during hard times by providing services to help others in need , I’d like to be part of the club in order to play a major role in changing the lives of others who may not have many opportunities, and see how helping others brings the best out of people. The purpose of being in The Red Cross Club is to unite people in the club to use their leadership skills and talent to help make a difference in providing food, shelter, and health …show more content…
Setting an example for everyone is highly important, showing others you have high standards, for example, I wouldn't make someone do something that I wouldn't be willing to do. Showing you’d do something in order explain puts trust which can be valued all throughout if the ‘followers’ don’t trust and feel confident in what I’m doing there’s gonna be a lack of inspiration and motivation, I’d have to convince them that I know what I’m doing, putting benefits first before self-gain is a critical key in showing trust since I’d be helping other people rather than myself. The reason why the members and I would’ve joined the club would be to help others
Leadership is about taking personal and social responsibility for working with others to achieve common goals.
ideals of leadership which could apply in a general case. This model emphasizes the fact that most leadership occurs in interpersonal interaction over an exposition to a large crowd. According to Scholl who performed a study at Jr. Labor Research Center, because leadership is constantly being evaluated by organizational members, superiors, and the public, there are always groups involved in the process as opposed to having a “formal leader” take charge (Scholl, 2003, pp. 2). He goes on to state that even though leadership assigns value to the individual role, there is never a point where the leader in that specific role exerts an absolute sphere of influence without competing claims (Scholl, 2003, pp.3). The process of exercising this type of leadership is inclusive and ethical because it gives an agency to everyone who is a part of the organization (Komives, 2007, p.74). Each person is a part of the leadership process because just be being a follower under a leader there is a relationship attached to oneself. This model is not descriptive but rather prescriptive. It tells one how to act and how to effectively lead rather than simply describe a process which can be observed in nature. The components of leadership involved include inclusivity of others views, the empowerment of those involved, being purposeful with one's goal and aligning others with that goal, and being ethical with good morals. As part of this model each component of this model must be part of a process which includes knowing, being, and doing (Komives, 2007, p.76). Knowing, being, and doing is an interrelated process which influences the leaders thinking and behavior. Knowing i...
James McGregor Burns was one of the first people to come up with a definition of transformational leadership (Bromley). Transformational leadership is great, but Burns made a quote in his book Leadership that should be recognized, “The aim of leadership is not to just reach a goal, but also transform leaders and followers into better, more self-actualized leaders” (Komives and Wagner). This quote really explains what leadership means to me, not only as a person leading a group, but also learning how to follow as well.
If one is interested in joining the American Red Cross Club, they will need to be a current MSU student. 2. Psychographics: Just about anybody could be interested in in donating blood or joining the club. Giving blood can potentially save someone’s life, which may grab many peoples attention.
Leadership is mobilizing people through the use of five practices, that of modeling the way, inspiring the group vision, challenging the process, enabling others to achieve, and encouraging the emotions of others. Additionally, leadership is based upon credibility which includes the integrity of the leader and the trust of those following. This credibility will be influenced by a leader’s honesty, vision, ability to inspire, and competence or ability to succeed.
First of all, I would like to define leadership by quoting Chester I. Barnard: “Leadership is the quality of behavior of individuals whereby they guide people or their activities in organising efforts”. In my opinion this statement is absolutely true and explains the term in its best way. Therefore, it would be logical to state that leader is the person who is at the center of the power structure of the group, the one who keeps everyone in the group together, forms the goals and motivates people to achieve those goals. Leadership is a very influential chain of actions. Only leader is to shape and regulate, control and change various things inside the group like attitude, behavioral norms, and performance. Mostly, leaders
Leadership is the ability to influence a group toward the achievement of a vision or a set of goals. Many scholars have given different definitions of leadership: Leaders are people who do the right thing; managers are people who do things right (Professor Warren G. Bennis), Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it (Dwight D. Eisenhower).
Leadership. A leader in an organization can be described as an individual who influences and directs others to take specific actions in order to reach a goal. A leader is someone who possess integrity, fairness, a sense of humor, cares about people, etc. While leadership appears to be fluid and easy to express, there are multiple theories of leadership that are
Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent. Another popular definition of Leadership is — a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. The word “leadership” has been used in at least three different ways. Occasionally it refers to a position within an organization,
According to Northouse 2010, Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. By this definition, a leader is a person who rules or guides or inspires or influences others. A leader is someone other people are willing to follow, almost without question. A leader may not always make the right decision, but are confident in the decisions that they make. Leaders are not afraid to admit when they are wrong, they accepts responsibility and a leader know when to change direction when a wrong choice has been made. For, even after a few mistakes, a true leader will not lose the confidence of his or her followers; he will rally the followers to move together while creating opportunities for doing the right thing.
Leadership has many definitions and even has become a philosophical question. In today 's world, there are many leadership styles that correspond to people 's personalities and the way they facilitate groups. In its simplest point, a leader is someone who leads. A wise professor once said, "That if you are leading and no one is following you, you are just taking a walk". One of the greatest challenges that leaders face are people.
Derek Sivers gave a brief TED talk entitled “How to start a movement” that is a great example of how important followers are and how they make or break a leader. In his presentation, he discusses the importance of the first follower in launching a movement. The premise is that while a leader may have the courage to stand alone it is the first follower that attracts others to join the organization and stand behind a leader. Followers typically have less authority and influence than their boss does. Followership, however, relates to the role those followers have in supporting the boss and the organization. Interestingly, while not everyone is a leader, every leader is a follower and answerable to someone whether that is a superior officer, a board of directors, or in the case of the United States President, the American people. The best leaders are also truly adept followers.
Leadership can take many different forms, depending on the person and the situation in which it is needed. Collaborative leadership is a leadership style in which a leader brings together a large group of people, with a variety of backgrounds, to make a productive decision and act upon it. According to Chrislip and Larson (1994):
What I Learned About Leadership from an Interview with Dr. Gretchen Caughman In my interview with Dr. Caughman, someone I view as a very capable leader, I learned that communication is an extremely important factor to becoming an effective leader. Additionally, this skill has a large impact on the various components of the Relational Leadership Model. I will be using the information gleaned from this interview and leadership experience to develop my communication skills, and to focus on observing the tactics employed by successful leaders.
Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Being a leader one must maintain an image of being the role model. I believe that this is leader should be who is someone who has the ability to influence, encourage, listen, and nurture. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
