This week at Bowling Green State University an event known as campus fest took place. The campus was lined with student organizations who were handing out information about themselves. While at campus fest I visited multiple tables, and three of these organizations stood out to me. The fishing team, club dodge ball, and Delta Tau Delta tables all struck me as unique and interesting. I plan on getting involved in these organizations as they will allow me to meet new people and engage in activities I enjoy. I first visited the fishing team table because fishing has been one of my biggest hobbies since I was a young boy. I started fishing with my dad when I was five years old and I have loved it ever since. When I came to Bowling Green State …show more content…
I always enjoyed playing dodge ball in gym class at my high school and at my local recreational center on Friday nights. My friends and I would play dodge ball a few times a month back in my hometown and we always had fun so I was interested in learning more about their club. I learned that this club is extremely competitive like many other sports teams, but it is also exceptionally fun. I also learned that this group holds practices and is treated like an actual sports team. I was surprised to hear that the dodge ball club actually held practices but I found it to be very interesting. I believe that this club will also be able to help me both professionally and personally. This organization will help me professionally because it will teach me skills regarding teamwork and cooperation. Since I want to become a game warden, I need to know how to work with other people and how to be an effective member of a team. Playing dodge ball puts you in a situation where you need to work with your team in order to win the game. Learning skills like these will be useful in the field when I am working with other game wardens or other law enforcement agencies. This club will help me personally because I will be able to meet new people while playing a game I enjoy. I don’t know many people in college yet other than my friends in my dorm, so being part of a club will allow me to make new friends and connections. The third table I visited was a fraternity table and that was the Delta Tau Delta
Clubs were a great way for me to expand my interests outside of athletics. I was involved in Key Club and FCA freshman year and I enjoyed meeting new people and making a difference in our community. I was inducted a member of NHS junior year and this was a great way to make service a priority.
Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity provided me the opportunity to volunteer on many occasions with organizations such as Boston Children's Hospital, Perkins School for the Blind and Home for Little Wanderers Foster Care. Through ProjectServe at UMass Boston I participated in annual tasks at the John W McCormack School and the children's art centre in United South End
I believe the water polo club functions as my discourse community. The sport has always been a big part of my life and has pushed my physical capabilities. I began playing water polo when I was a freshman in high school and have always enjoyed the sport as a whole. Every since then, I fell in love with the sport and cannot imagine my life without it. This is my fifth year playing the sport and I have enjoyed every minute of it. It has helped me relieve stress from school, gain physical activity, and meet new people. I have benefited from the club and I believe others will to. New members will have the opportunity to potentially learn more about water polo, become friends with other players, and have an overall good
Upon arriving to college, many students face the challenge of finding a community to belong to. I believe the student affairs professionals on campus are the resource to building communities within the student body. Reflecting back on my first semester of college, I found my community within two organizations; Dance Marathon and UI Alumni Association Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (S.T.A.T.). Within the organizations I met two advisers who opened my eyes to the world of student affairs.
Over the course of this class I feel like I have become a much better writer. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.
In COL 101 I have learned many new things about college. Since this is my first semester at college I did not really know where everything was. This class really helped me to learn new things about myself, including what resources are available to me, what my plan for the future is, and the many changes I have endured during this course.
fraternity, I came up with an event called GoWest Goes Greek. GoWest Goes Greek was an event where I reached out to all social, art, music, and academic sororities/fraternities to come together and do a huge community service project. The project consisted of cleaning all the GoWest buses, to show them that as a campus we are grateful for the free services and all the disrespectful behaviors they have to encounter. To conclude just a glimpse of my service I have done for the community and campus, I would like to talk about one last experience that impacted people here in the community but also people internationally. I was Vice President for an organization called Rotract, which is an international volunteer organization. In my term of being VP my responsibility was to do a local and international fundraising event.
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
Since this past summer, I have been working with Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center (WWRC) to create a project for my Senior Capstone Project at Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School. This project has been incredibly influential towards defining my current outlook on my potential future and career in Engineering. In an effort to expand upon what I have learned at SVGS through an Introduction to Engineering class, I wanted to use the programming skills that I have obtained to wire, design, and program a new sensor and create something to assist the patients at the center. Therefore, I have collaborated with the physical therapy department and am currently working on a motorized wheelchair sensor device. This sensor will act as a warning
At Rutgers, I will have the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom. The Department of Student Involvement includes over 450 student organizations, something my current college lacks. I want to get involved in campus life to enhance my leadership skills and
In high school I was also involved with many organizations and I feel like this process is going on again now that I am in college. I have joined a few different organizations and not all of them ha...
You’ve heard the advice before “get involved, join a club”, at the University of Montana (UM) we are a very large commuter college, involvement is a good way to develop relationships with other students and to create a sense of community for yourself and others.
In college, I will also be exposed to new clubs and activities. I feel that club and after school activities can make a person more involved and give a person the right qualities to become a leader. Involvement in extra events has provided a balance for rigorous course study. With the pressures that college brings, I will probably want to be involved in many groups.
The internship that I acquired during the summer of 2010 at the Greenwood Sports and Industrial Rehabilitation Center (GSIRC), allowed me to gain an immeasurable amount of experience during my tenure at this facility. Within this period, the exposure to new concepts within the physical therapy industry allowed me to observe and work hands on with patients of all ages and disabilities that exposed me to various treatment plans and programs to restore client’s mobility. The essential Physical Education and Exercise Science (PEES) courses taken at Lander University were beneficial to my academic knowledgebase, which prepared me and developed me for the opportunity within the physical therapy discipline. Working as an intern taught me the responsibility of time management and working within a lean schedule that allow me to further develop my skill set. This reflection paper will illustrate my classroom experience, internship experience, and learning experience.
The involvement in team sports builds good character and social development skills in children. According to LHSAA executive director, Kenny Henderson “Children who participate in sports have heightened self-esteem, social skills, ability to work well with others and more respect.” Young adults who have played team sports are less likely to take illegal drugs. Adults who played sports as children have better social and leadership skills. Sports provide children with experiences and interactions necessary to grow into an adult with good character and sufficient social skills. Team sports in grade school can offer children and teenager an outlet for stress and negative emotional build-up. Coaches, practices, games or meets and traveling all have a large impact on a person’s charter. Most children who have played a team sport at some time have character traits found in highly successful adults.
