Introduction During this semester, I have learned a lot about what it takes to manage a classroom. There are certain steps you must take before the school year starts to keep your students in order. You must create a positive relationship with your students. A positive relationship creates a positive environment for them. The students need routine; without it they have no set system of how to go through their day. The students need rules established. They are still children and need to know that the teacher is in charge. Parents are always going to be concerned with their child, so to stay in touch you must foster communication. You need hierarchies to reinforce good behavior or punish bad behavior. Lastly, the teacher needs to have different …show more content…
There is one strategy that has worked for me as a child and I would like to try it as an adult. As a student, I always believed in the motto “treat others how you would like to be treated” and I believe this can work with a teacher-student relationship. Basically, what I mean is that if you want your students to respect you, you have to first give them the respect they deserve. I always found that when I truly respected a teacher that is when I tried my hardest in their class. You can hush a classroom for hours, but if the students have no respect for you they are not going to listen. The purpose of this whole classroom management strategy is to help keep dominance in the classroom. Of course, everyone wants his or her students to have fun, but when it comes time to getting back to the learning, a teacher needs to know how to manage their …show more content…
Every student will have a bad day occasionally. I think that is completely normal, they are still humans with emotions. In this circumstance the easiest way to deal with it is by asking them what’s wrong. Our student may be younger than us, but they still have problems that can be going on in their lives. I believe it is important that if a student is acting out to find out what the core of their problem is. A student could have some deep-root problems that they can’t talk to their parents about because they may be the issue. When these issues happen, it is important to care for your student. When it comes down to discipline issues I feel like respect should be given. Every student deserves a second chance; do not kick them out because they talked once to their friends. Simply just make them move to a different seat in the room before taking higher measures. A teacher is meant to guide his or her students through the school year just make sure that you are doing it in the best way you
According to Burden (2003), classroom management involves teacher actions to create a learning environment that encourages active engagement in learning, positive social interaction, and self-motivation. Burden (2003) describes an effective classroom manager to follow the seven (7) areas of responsibility in a classroom management:
keep my students safe. My classroom will be based on trust, not fear. I expect my students to
There are many things to consider when a child is acting up. As the teacher, it
In my twelve years of teaching experience, one thing that most of my colleagues have struggled with at some point in their career has been classroom management. Classroom management is one many keys to instructional success. Unfortunately, many have left the teaching field due to lack of knowledge of classroom management best practices.
My personal philosophy of classroom management focuses on creating an environment where children feel safe and where they feel like they belong. I will create this environment for my fourth grade class through making my expectations of the students clear while developing an engaging lesson plan and personable interactions with my students. I developed my philosophy from studying different theorists and based my philosophy on the theories of Glasser and Kounin. Glasser believed that the teacher’s roll in the classroom is that of a leader rather than a boss. He believed that students should be given power in the classroom and that the teacher should share it with the students. I will use his ‘7 caring habits’ specifically supporting and respecting to help my classroom feel safe and welcoming to my students. Meeting the individual needs of my students will be the focus of my classroom management routine. I will meet individual needs by promoting self management and self efficacy in my students by creating an environment that that has predictable and consistent daily routines while focusing on my student’s successes (Shindler, 2010). Having a predictable routine will encourage a success oriented environment and will reduce anxiety and help towards creating positive self efficacy in each of my students (Shindler, 2010). In Glasser’s Choice Theory he talks about focusing on the present and not bringing up the past (Glasser, 2010). Therefore, I will focus my classroom on being goal driven and will help each student obtain their goals. Thus, helping my students have positive self efficacy. I will apply Kounin’s technique of Momentum (Pressman, 2011). This involves the teacher keeping exercises short and moving around the room a lot so...
Teachers use theories, models of learning, and professional standards to shape their teaching practices. There are several learning theories that have evolved the educational field. Theories guide instruction and the beliefs of the teachers. Teachers use these theories, standards, and personal beliefs to develop goals in order to improve teaching effectiveness.

All effective educators need to find ways to motivate their students. The kids that fill our classrooms have different strengths and weaknesses. It is critical that teachers recognize the strengths and weaknesses of their students so they can use the right classroom management strategies to motivate their kids. In this particular case, the student named Jodie is inattentive and uninterested and neither the teacher intern or classroom teacher have a clue how to handle this situation. Ms. Marcia Thomas, who is the young intern feels that Jodie is just a problem child that lacks motivation and there is nothing she can do for this particular student. Ms. Thomas and the lead teacher Ms. Egan both lack the needed classroom management strategies that are necessary to motivate and engage students in a positive learning environment.
The job of a teacher is never easy but we have seen how cooperative discipline and enabling students to feel capable, connected and contributing can improve classroom management and maybe even our own moods. If we create an environment of mutual respect and give our students legitimate power of voice and choice in the classroom we will see positive results in improved student behavior and student achievement. Because when our students believe that they can succeed, they will.
Classroom Management is a significant element in any educational setting. Students should be in a safe environment, then learning can take place. This doesn’t necessarily mean punishing behavior problems but rather a combination of setting the tone in a class, preventing behavior problems with interesting and engaging curriculums and effectively including all students in the classroom so that their needs are met. Having the right environment for all students to learn is my major goal of implementing good classroom management--without it the students would not be able to learn (Dodge 2002).
Classroom management has the largest effect on student achievement, so students cannot learn in poorly managed classroom. Additionally, research has pointed out that the quality of teacher-student relationships is the main aspect of classroom management.(…2). Furthermore, when teachers set classroom management plan, the plan will give structure to everything from seating to lessons to grading to the relationship between students. Teachers should incorporate strategies for addressing student behavior into classroom
Making them apologize to the teachers they disturbed or students can maybe open up their mind and see what they have caused them to feel making them wish to be a better person in the future. Students would rather sit at home so why not just try to better the school and put in more work and time with the students and try to better their education so they can have a good job when they become an
If they display bad behavior they 'll be a consequence that goes along with it. I like that in the book Fay how they believe discipline should be handle. In my classroom I don 't want to take away from any learning time. As a teacher I will give myself and the student who promoted bad behavior enough time to cool down before handling the situation. Once I have time, and only on my time that is when I will address the issue. I will give the student two options of discipline and allow them to choose, but the two options will be of both at I approve of. Once the issue is done, it 's
Classroom management is a necessary component to every classroom. It includes creating a set of rules and clear expectations that all students follow. This helps unify the classroom for both the teacher and students allowing for a smooth, effective, and educational environment. When the students are aware of what is expected, they are motivated in order to attain the goals dispensed by the teacher. Some students are naturally motivated and want nothing more than to surpass goals for the sake of triumph and pleasing the teacher. Other students need extrinsic motivation in order for them to become engaged in
As stated earlier, I believe Classroom Management is the key to how learning can take place and students can feel safe participating. I hope to create an environment that is conducive to learning and involves all my students. I believe the most important part of classroom management is not the behavior problems but creating a good rapport with the students, encouraging them to succeed and setting high expectations for them. As well as using an engaging a curriculum, I believe you can create this environment and it will limit the behavior problems in your classroom from the
