Classroom Management According to Burden (2003), classroom management involves teacher actions to create a learning environment that encourages active engagement in learning, positive social interaction, and self-motivation. Burden (2003) describes an effective classroom manager to follow the seven (7) areas of responsibility in a classroom management: Select a philosophical model of classroom management and discipline – there are different theoretical models that are useful to teachers because they offer a basis for analysing understanding, and managing student and teacher behaviour. Promote classroom safety and wellness – students need to feel physically and emotionally safe before they can give their full attention to the instructional task. Interact with colleagues, parents and others to achieve classroom management objectives – when the parents and teacher communicate and get along together, students are more likely to receive the needed guidance and support. Teachers may also consult their colleagues and others when difficulties occur with classroom management and student behaviors. Exceptional Children/Student According to Kauffman and Hallahan (2005), exceptional children are those who require special education and related services if they are to realize their full human potential. These students require special education because they differ markedly from most students in one or more of the following ways: they may have intellectual disabilities, speech disorders, physical disabilities, autism, traumatic brain injury, impaired hearing, impaired sight, learning or attention disabilities, emotional or behavioural disorders, impaired sight or gifted
