This week was my second week in the classroom, and I absolutely loved it. This week flowed more because the procedures and rules were already stablished. Although Mrs. McCollum does not have “set” classroom rules displayed in her classroom, she does expect her students to respect each other. One of the first procedures that students are taught is when they come in the morning they have to hang their backpacks in their correct spots. Then, they must put their take-home folders and put it in a bucket that is next to the door. Next, the students must quietly grab a book and sit outside the hallway until it is time to line up to go inside the classroom. This is a crucial commencing procedure because it sets the stage for the whole day. During this time the teacher monitors the students.

This design works perfect for our students because they have enough space to work in teams. The teacher allows students to talk amongst themselves when they have to do worksheets; therefore, the tables works perfect for this set up. The students are able to talk across from each other raising their voices. In addition, the students spend a lot of time on the carpet and this set up provides plenty of space for all students to sit on it. There is also enough space for everyone to see the board from the carpet as well as from their desks which is important for their learning because the teacher does most of her teaching from this location. The amount of space between the tables and chairs is plenty; therefore, when students are doing centers they have enough room to rotate. Students are also able to move freely in between class time, and from one activity to the next. The only thing this room lacks is for the table close to the smartboard to be moved farther away because the teacher has to move the two students who sit close to it when she uses the board.
