Classroom Routines and Procedures Every teacher must have a set of classroom routines and procedures to maintain order in the classroom. When entering the classroom, students will enter in a quiet manner. They will sit at their assigned desk and have all material ready to begin on required work. Once the bell rings and the door is closed, students will be seated and working. Tardiness is unacceptable and if the student receives more than three unexcused tardies per nine weeks, a referral will be given to the office and a phone call will be made the parent or guardian. Also, students should not be more than three minutes late to class. This will result in an automatic referral to the office.
After the bell rings, there will be a bell ringer on the board every day for students to complete. Bell ringers are to be done inside of a composition notebook

Students will maximize their learning time by staying on task and following directions, and remain seated unless instructed to do otherwise. There will always be work available for the student to complete. Opportunity for free time is nonexistent. Being patient, which is also the fourth rule, is tied in with this one. When active participation is occurring, students will wait respectively and calmly for their turn. There will not be any shouting across the classroom or disrespecting a peer’s answer choice. They all should be actively listening to one another and learning. The last and most important rule is to be polite. My favorite example is reciting the Golden Rule to them. The Golden Rule is to “Treat others the way you want to be treated”. Inside of the classroom, each student is responsible for respecting themselves, their peers, and the teacher. All body parts, such as hands and feet, should be kept to themselves. Respect also goes as far as respecting school property. Each year, as a new group of students enter my classroom, I will encourage them to be expressive of their imaginations in their favorite subjects, whether it be art, literature, math or music. We all have rules and regulations to follow, and each student will know that there is no exception in the school or the classroom. Another goal in my classroom will be to keep the students excited about learning, not to treat school as a game or a social event, but to encourage a unique and fun atmosphere to learn. My educational ethics toward each student will be to emphasise that everyone is an individual, they are all special and unique in their own way, and that every student does not learn on the same level. I hope my students will treat each other the way they want to be treated, and respect those that may be less fortunate.

Teaching classroom rules and procedures will contribute to a safe and secure environment for students. Classroom rules should be the same for everyone, however, like I mentioned above there are exceptions to be made on an individual basis. All interactions within the classroom should be positive. Attendance is a crucial aspect of a student’s education. When a student is tardy or absent, this interferes with them receiving the information given in class. Class introductions that include instructions, objectives, due dates, etc. may be missed if a student is tardy and if a student is absent, they may also get behind on their class work and homework. Communication between teacher and students about the classroom management procedures for these two things are important so that students are informed and are able to take the initiative to gather what they have missed which can help avoid them falling behind. The most important rule that I believe in is that my classroom should be a place of learning. The best way to create this type of environment is to make sure that I am consistent with all students and that I make the students feel comfortable and relaxed. I believe that students learn more in a consistent relaxed atmosphere, because all students need to know that what’s wrong for one is wrong for all and what is right for one is right for all. I want my students to be comforted in the feeling that they are all on equal footing when they step into my classroom.
The first rule of teaching is "ASSUME NOTHING", this is the most important rule in teaching, as it states teachers must never assume they know everything. They must be updated with every single subject they are teaching, need to know their boundaries, roles, responsibilities and professional values. They have to be aware of changes in policies and rules and be updated with all subjects they are teaching. Teachers are also responsible for updating their knowledge on rules such as Health and Safety at Work, Risk Assessment and Child Protection Guidelines.
The rule that was one of the first ones that I encountered being in this classroom was her noise level rule/chart. There was a chart hanging in the very front of the room that enforced and reminded the students of her noise level rule, and she frequently referred to it. This rule was one that the students new well and followed it without a problem, it is also one that I wouldn’t mind using in my own classroom. The rule is that the students have different noise levels that are expected from them, the level they are supposed to be at is given by the teacher after the students are given the rules of an assignment or test. The first level is level 0 it means that there should be absolutely no talking, then there is level 1. Level 1 means that the student can whisper to their neighbor (shoulder buddy) but the person that is sitting across from them shouldn’t hear them nor should the teacher. The next level is level 2, it means that you can quietly talk to your group, this would be used if there was any group work going on, but the tables surrounding you should not be able to hear you. Then there is a level 3, level 3 is the classroom discussion level meaning that anyone in the room can hear what you are saying. My classroom management starts with a well-organized, clearly labeled classroom layout so that my students can easily access the resources they need for my class. I display visual aids and reminders around the room to support the students and I display their work in specific places around the room to give them a sense of belonging. I create routines and procedures to support the students and enable them to form smooth transitions between activities. There is a certain way they enter and leave the classroom, distribute books and papers, and move their desks and chairs. In my classroom these mundane tasks are completed quickly, competitively, and with enthusiasm. Having routines in place helps students understand exactly what is expected of them and gives them confidence in their actions.
Discipline plays a key part in education. Respect from your students will make the classroom a better atmosphere. Rules should be established on the first day. Rules should be a thoughtful process so they can be carried out to be affective, but logical consequences. We do not want the students self esteem to be damaged.
